This video from lovely Dr John Campbell, is very informative and in part reassuring he has suggested a lower CFR of 1% based on the figures he is constantly analysing

Another same here. Dh went on the first thing to get hand gels.

He only got 3, but at that time there weren't more. I went back an hour later, the manager said the store was cleared out in 20 mins this am.
Everywhere else all I could hear was... Have you got any hand sanitizer etc.

HasaDigaEebowai · 29/02/2020 13:07

Im not agreeing that Italy is "completed infected" though. Just saying it is also important not to downplay it.

WaterSheep · 29/02/2020 13:08

do we think the 21st case will be added? The press have reported it but not the department of health.

I had hoped that they would notify the public at the earliest opportunity, when a new case is confirmed. However, we've know about case 21 since last night and still no update.

Snowdropdelight · 29/02/2020 13:08

Dusty which airport?
Some one went through Milan but not infected towns and had it

Plantherd · 29/02/2020 13:11

@WaterSheep would you be able to post a link on the 21st case? Thank you Smile

Wehttam · 29/02/2020 13:13

So people transmitting the disease in other countries who have visited parts of Italy that are not on lockdown doesn’t ring alarm bells?

Everything will start to be cancelled there, the Serie A is one to watch, 5 games postponed until May just this afternoon. Hell the Pope is even coughing!

Italian friends on here, please take care of yourselves.

SansaSnark · 29/02/2020 13:16

Oddly, there does seem to be quite a high percentage of Italian sportspeople diagnosed. There's 4 people associated with a football club, plus the cyclists in UAE.

AFIAK the 21st case is the doctor, isn't it?

ofwarren · 29/02/2020 13:17

Yeah because they have said the 20th case was a patient at the surgery

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 29/02/2020 13:17

The fixtures are postponed till May for logistics reasons (timetabling) though, not because we're in lockdown till then. It's the first Wednesday (when all postponed games tend to be played) when there isn't something else going on.

magicrainbowbeans · 29/02/2020 13:20

The GP just happens to be at one of the 100 surgeries where routine testing is underway. Guardian.

ofwarren · 29/02/2020 13:22

So magic it's possible he had no symptoms? 😱 Oh dear

WaterSheep · 29/02/2020 13:24

3 new cases in France: health workers contaminated by a patient in intensive care since Feb. 21

LarkDescending · 29/02/2020 13:24

Yes the patient (Case 20) was only tested because the surgery was one of those operating the sentinel scheme, whereby all those presenting flu-like symptoms were swabbed for Covid-19 - according to the Guardian.

Wehttam · 29/02/2020 13:25

Bookme I hope you aren’t lockdown until May either! This could devastate the Italian economy beyond belief. Stay safe!!!

LarkDescending · 29/02/2020 13:25

*presenting with flu-like symptoms.

So it seems likely the patient had symptoms, and the GP was tested because of contact with the patient.

peridito · 29/02/2020 13:27

I'm confused about the UK case 20 or21 .

Yesterday it was being reported that a GP had been admitted to a London hospital.Apparently his wife is a GP as well.

Then there was discussion about whether it was a GP or his patient .

Watching Sky news this morning ,no mention of a GP just someone from Surrey in hospital .

Anyone clarify ?

SansaSnark · 29/02/2020 13:27

The pope is an elderly man with a pre-existing lung condition and it's February. Him coughing is no indication that he has coronavirus or any other serious condition (apart from the fact he is already missing part of a lung).

I think possibly the US advice re: Italy is because they don't seem to give detailed advice like the foreign office does. It seems to all be done on a country-wide level, rather than talking about specific regions. So if there's one area of the country they don't think people should go to, they say don't travel to the whole country, whereas in the UK, we are able to say "don't go to this specific town/region".

Wehttam · 29/02/2020 13:28

Stay away from the sick!!!! This is the devil in sheep’s clothing. You hear coughing or sneezing, step the hell away from them!

LarkDescending · 29/02/2020 13:29

Case 20 (confirmed) was a patient of Haslemere Health Centre.

The Guardian had already reported rumours that a GP in Surrey had tested positive but if so it has not het been formally confirmed.

WaterSheep · 29/02/2020 13:29

Perdito

Case 20 - a patient in Surrey - (Publicly confirmed)

Case 21 - A GP, with a partner who is also a GP (not publicly confirmed)

LarkDescending · 29/02/2020 13:30

*Not yet...

ofwarren · 29/02/2020 13:30

Did we ever find out where the two cases were from who had contracted it in Iran?

Plantherd · 29/02/2020 13:30

Thank you @WaterSheep

Do you think they are trying to trace all the GP contacts before PHE announces it?

Also, my 2 and a half year old just saw his grandad cough into his hands and told him he needs to go wash his hands Grin

Wehttam · 29/02/2020 13:31

Sansa, they gave advice for Hubei region initially and then it went China wide once the scope of severity was realised.
