Is anyone stock piling yet for coronavirus. I got a few bottles of Calpol this afternoon and some ibuprofen but wondering if I should stock kitchen cupboards. Daily Mail is getting me into a panic !!

OP posts:
Doginahat · 29/02/2020 19:55

Gin on subscription not prescription!! Bloody autocorrect.

Wolfiefan · 29/02/2020 21:05

I want gin on prescription. Grin

DonkeyKong2019 · 29/02/2020 21:06

Gin prescribed? Yes please

Doginahat · 29/02/2020 22:07

Grin Grin Grin Just pass me the drip!

For anyone who actually fancies a gin pre subscription, my link is here but in interest of transparency if you use it I get some referral credit too.

I must also warn you that it's very addictive - I planned to have mine delivered quarterly but I've always changed it back to monthly at the last minute!!

Hollyhobbi · 29/02/2020 22:11

First case here in Ireland (East). No hand sanitiser anywhere. Have loads of paracetamol anyway as I get it on prescription. Got lemsips in Tesco in case my daughters need it. They had a full display of it! My mum bought face masks but only because they are flying to Spain next week! She has just been diagnosed with Breast Cancer and my dad has a suppressed immune system. Her specialist told her not to cancel and enjoy their holiday.

SkyesBackPack · 29/02/2020 22:11

What? Gin on prescription? Time to self medicate with a box or two 😆

HavenDilemma · 29/02/2020 22:19

@datasgingercatspot It's not pneumonic plague.

You're kidding, right?

Love, it's killing people in increasing numbers.... All over the world...... HmmHmmHmm

Stefoscope · 29/02/2020 22:19

Nope, don't see the need to stockpile. My brother has just had to return to China for work and the advice he was given was to quarantine himself in his apartment for a fotnight. It's fine to make short trips to the local store to stock up on groceries, you don't have to become a complete hermit!

HavenDilemma · 29/02/2020 22:25

@Stefoscope That is absolutely true.

However.... That is presuming there'll be much of anything left to buy! Panic buying will ensue - all at once in areas where there is concern.

This is called 'prepping' for a possible quarantine; not arranging one.

Please tell me exactly where the harm is, in buying a few extra bits each shopping trip? If there's no quarantine needed then you have extra tins of food, packs of over the counter meds and a few cartons of long life milk for example - no big deal 🤷🏼‍♀️

HavenDilemma · 29/02/2020 22:28

HAND SANITISER DOES NOT KILL THIS TYPE OF NOVEL VIRUS!!!!!!!! Also, unless it's above 60% alcohol then it won't kill any sodding viruses!!!! 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️

Stefoscope · 29/02/2020 22:35

@HavenDilemma, I don't believe I said there was any harm in people buying a few extra bits. If it allays people's feels to have extra supplies in then fair play to them. The OP asked if anyone was stockpiling. I personally won't be, neither will my brother as we don't see the point. I doubt either of us will starve to death over the course of a few weeks if we have to eat a little less than normal.

bellinisurge · 29/02/2020 22:39

I'm sure the people he met along the way of his little shopping trips are delighted to be deceived in this way.

Stefoscope · 29/02/2020 22:45

@bellinisurge. I don't understand your point, the people he would encounter on his 'shopping trips' would be just as likely to be a carrier of the virus as him, no? Do you think everyone in China has been on lock down in their houses for the past few weeks? What about the people who have been working round the clock on building the hospitals to treat the sick. People still have to earn a living to provide for their families.

FlamingoAndJohn · 29/02/2020 22:45

That it might be. Still doesn’t make it the plague though.

faracrossthepond · 29/02/2020 22:47

@Clarepwheatley

Oh FFS, another thread to hide.

Some people need to get a new hobby!

YABU obviously!

KoalasandRabbit · 29/02/2020 23:00

We haven't got anything in yet though when I saw the town on lockdown in Italy which said all the supermarkets had closed and just one veg shop open did begin to wonder if we should think about it. I have ocd so we always have industrial quantities of anti-bac spray and we live right next to the supermarket.

Pppppickupapenguin · 29/02/2020 23:03

It's pay weekend for many, so the supermarkets will be extra busy.

Dailyjunglegrind · 29/02/2020 23:14

@LeggyLinda can I ask which holiday company’s were offering the deals?
Local sainsburys here was low stock on many staples.. the canned & cleaning isle busier than normal.. i suppose it’s clearing brexit stockpiles in warehouses .. and providing ammo that we need to buy local vs imported goods now

CrowleysBentley · 29/02/2020 23:19

I've got a few weeks worth of food in, plus cat food, snacks and litter, household things, toiletries, medicines and other stuff. I started stocking up in case of supply issues with a no deal brexit, and have kept it going. It all gets used, and I know if we're ill, there's snow stopping deliveries, or bank problems or whatever else might make getting shopping in difficult, we're covered for a while.

I ordered some clinell cleaning stuff that kills most viruses today, and stocked up on throat lozenges and ibuprofen, so I know that if there's a quarantine situation, or we get sick none of my family will have to be going to the shops spreading or catching germs, and there will be that bit more left on the shelves for other people.

Namechangeforthegamechange · 29/02/2020 23:56

Tesco was RAMMED near me today. Went to calpol for teething baby and they had nothing. 4 local chemists and 2 Tesco express and none! Posted on fb and a “friend” offered me one of the 6 bottles she bought yesterday 🤬

Rubyupbeat · 01/03/2020 08:35

@Figgygal
I'm with you, I wont get caught up in this media scaremongering.
We've had this repeatedly over the years. bird flu, swine flu etc.....
Load of crap, never came to anything.
Coronavirus has always been around in its different mutations.
Flu is a killer generally of the old, young and immune compromised.

Rubyupbeat · 01/03/2020 08:41

Posted too quickly...
Of course , hopefully most hygienic people wash their hands thoroughly anyway, so shouldn't have to be told this common sense.

TroysMammy · 01/03/2020 08:52

I made a rough list of the food I already have in the house and it appears I could be fine for 3 weeks! I haven't been prepping though. But how come I can normally never find anything to eat in the house?

PonderTweek · 01/03/2020 09:04

Nipped to my local Waitrose yesterday and they were very low on stock on various items like tinned beans, pasta, rice, lentils, oatcakes, paracetamol/ibuprofen/Calpol and cleaning products. Saw a guy buying a million packs of Calpol and ibuprofen in my local pharmacy too. It's a bit creepy.

My stockpile is all ready though so we don't need to panic buy. We were going through our garage yesterday and found two bottles of hand gel. We could make a fortune on those now! Confused

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 01/03/2020 09:40

Was in asda on friday...looked pretty stocked, no empty shelves and everything where it usually is (so couldnt see any evidence of them moving stock round to fill empty shelves)

Was in Sainsbury’s yesterday and again looked pretty stocked
