Peridito its definitely Surrey and the rumours where I live is that its Leatherhead

NettleTea · 28/02/2020 09:47

My mother, with the terrible flu like symptoms, who returned fro Saville last Sunday, called 111 last night finally.
They were not interested
Apparently, despite a community caught patient testing positively in the town, mainland Spain isnt on their list so they wont test her. Told her to go to GP

RedToothBrush · 28/02/2020 09:48

I don't know, I truly hope this levels out but if not it's going to be a very bumpy ride.

My friend said to me at the start of last week that she thought it would be a damp squib and nothing would happen with coronavirus.

I just looked at her and kept my mouth shut because its the economic stuff that will get us if the disease doesn't and china's shut down already meant it was in the system and will filter through.

It's going to get bumpy in ways people are not expecting.

Stockpiling isn't really going to be the antidote to a lot of these problems either.

I'm expecting big events to start getting cancelled in the UK from probably the end of next week (if not sooner). Football will be pretty high up on the list I suspect.

AmelieTaylor · 28/02/2020 09:48

@FelicityMarbles

Link to Crufts statement in that HERE

Basically NO it won’t be cancelled. ‘Taking advice from OHE & WHO & they won’t tell people to cancel events - even if it’s the sensible thing to do.

They’re taking additional precautions. Well worth a read for anyone trying to decide whether to go or not.

I’d say it’s no more or no less risky than any other large gathering of people in a venue over several days

Personally I wouldn’t go, (not even to something I really wanted to go to) because for me the added risk of mixing with hundreds more unknown people just isn’t worth it.

If you do go - take a LOT of 70% alcohol hand gel & use it liberally -& obviously wash your hands thoroughly as soon as you get home. Be aware of putting bags etc down while there than putting them down at home. I have just this morning put a Dettol Fabric spray by the front door so I can spray my (canvas) bag when I come in because I’m terrible for putting it on the settee, bed etc. and I am now in the habit of washing my hands as soon as I come in the house. (Never bothered before as I’ve always figured building immunity is important).

The two new cases in England (cases 16 and 17) got it in Iran, per CMO.

Recovered coronavirus patients found not to be infectious - official

toysoldier · 28/02/2020 09:52

I've heard a rumour that the second new patient yesterday was diagnosed at the West Berkshire hospital in Newbury... Just a rumour!

Axlcat · 28/02/2020 09:52

I’ve recently been diagnosed with MS. My office have a global meeting next week with people flying in from all over the place (although not China or Italy) but will have been through airports including Singapore. Am I crazy to ask to work from home whilst they are here?!

ofwarren · 28/02/2020 09:54

The S*n are saying the Wales case is Swansea

LarkDescending · 28/02/2020 09:55

It will be interesting to see what happens with the suspected London law firm case (Baker Mckenzie). Their office in the City has been closed since yesterday.

WaterSheep · 28/02/2020 09:56

Putting my hat in the ring and saying that I bet we'll be over 30 UK cases by the end of the week.

Frazzled2207 · 28/02/2020 09:57

Whereas I don't tend to listen to anything that Jeremy Hunt says he said on bbc that "the virus seems to have now peaked in Wuhan where less than 5% have caught it" .
That ought to be quite reassuring. Along with The fact that some Chinese provinces have had several hundred infections but no reported deaths at all.

ofwarren · 28/02/2020 09:59

Amsterdam reports first case of coronavirus, second case in the Netherlands t.co/eUoE2b20hL

ofwarren · 28/02/2020 10:00

I agree @watersheep we are going to be seeing lots of new cases over the next few days.

LarkDescending · 28/02/2020 10:00

The government is a disgrace for refusing to put anyone forward for that interview which Jeremy Hunt stepped up for.

DonkeyKong2019 · 28/02/2020 10:01

@Frazzled2207 did you not see how the Chinese handled it? Won't even be close to the same measures taken accross most of the world.

WaterSheep · 28/02/2020 10:03

George Osborne

The British Government now needs to go onto a ‘war footing’ with the coronavirus: daily NHS press briefings, regular COBRA meetings chaired by the PM, Ministers on all major media shows. The public is fearful, wants information and needs to know their leaders have got a grip.

NettleTea · 28/02/2020 10:03

we wont do what the chinese did. They have the kind of government that allows them to do that. Ours would be too scared by the backlash.

HasaDigaEebowai · 28/02/2020 10:03

Just had some Hypa Clean Hand Gel arrive. I swear you could get drunk in that, it made me catch my breath just squirting it onto my hands!

You can get drunk on it and people nick it to get drunk on. It's why hospitals generally don't have alcohol based hand sanitiser (and as a result the sanitiser in hospitals won't stop virus spread)

LarkDescending · 28/02/2020 10:04

Cross-posted with you WaterSheep Smile

AmelieTaylor · 28/02/2020 10:05

@NettleTea. That’s shocking. That’s the kind of thing that needs reporting to the ...well I’m not sure who exactly, but I’d be looking in the Govt website, asking in here how to report it correctly & opening a twitter account.

It’s that kind of crap that’s going to cause it to spread quickly.

HasaDigaEebowai · 28/02/2020 10:08

Just been speaking to my cleaner about things. She also works in a cinema cleaning (very well known large chain) and she said the conditions there are shocking. They get a very short period of time to clean and they have to clean with head torches since its difficult to see. They don't get given gloves (although she provides her own). None of their products are antibacterial, even in the toilets and she said people are horrendously dirty. She said its not unusual for there to be bodily fluids around and people leave all their rubbish so she said most of the time they can only do a really quick pick up of rubbish and hoover the worst of it.

WhiteWall1 · 28/02/2020 10:09

And yet people still say “it’s just flu”!

peridito · 28/02/2020 10:09

Old news from the 26th and may have been posted before .Sensible I think and will hopefully be informative .

A network of 100 primary care sites across England will carry out opportunistic testing for coronavirus in patients with respiratory infections as part of an NHS surveillance strategy.

A total of eight NHS hospitals across the country have confirmed their participation in the scheme - with plans to send samples from patients with severe respiratory infection who do not fit current guidelines for COVID-19 testing to be checked for the disease

GP practices included I believe .
