I'm completely on board with what you posted. To be clear, I don't think that the virus is some kind of man made bio warfare thingy. I believe it came from bats, just that it didn't originate in a wet market and was Instead leaked from a lab and that's what makes it into a conspiracy theory. It's not unheard of. Sars was accidentally leaked from two labs one in Singapore and one in China and caused mini outbreaks after the main pandemic had stopped. Beijing also covered SARS up when it first started and as with the CORONOVIRIS in the early days, medical professionals were interrogated and incarcerated for trying to get the word out there about it. I'm just saying,it's not out of the realms of possibility that it was a laboratory accident.

PotholeParadise · 28/02/2020 21:13

However, what is being talked about is the likelihood that this may have been around for longer. My DP, our friend, DP's boss, my sister, all came down with a chest infection and fever over Christmas. It took ages to shift and the symptoms are similar.

If it had been around for ages, then we could safely conclude that China was over-reacting and it was anything to worry about, due to the surprising lack of floods of people needing ventilators.

Pick your poison, but the descriptions of the worst case scenarios of how bad this virus is are incompatible with it having been in the UK since December. Either it's not that bad, or it's not here.

Dusty01 · 28/02/2020 21:13

Yes the link I want to add here suggests it was an accidental leak rather than warfare.

PotholeParadise · 28/02/2020 21:13

*wasn't anything to worry about.

Bessica1970 · 28/02/2020 21:16

Is the GP not included in the 20 cases we know about? The BBC gave case 20 down as a patient of the practice!
Does this mean they are holding cases back from stats?

usernameishistory · 28/02/2020 21:17

Oh yes! What a great by product, stinking of garlic keeps everyone away too Grin Grin

Perfect.

I guess vodka sales could go through the roof nothing to do with the stress relief of course

I am ill with flu at the moment so cant face alcohol, but I will take my.own suggestion and use vodka (cheap mind you) for sanitiser!

ofwarren · 28/02/2020 21:17

The Surrey GP is case 20.

LarkDescending · 28/02/2020 21:17

The GP is the 20th case.

LarkDescending · 28/02/2020 21:19

The BBC says “patient” (the GP is now a hospital patient), not “patient of the practice”.

Bessica1970 · 28/02/2020 21:19

The latest BBC headline suggests otherwise

mammon · 28/02/2020 21:19

@Dusty01 I would love to see that if you could find it.

Quartz2208 · 28/02/2020 21:20

Apparently some China offices are opening again next week - ours is in China and Hong Kong

ofwarren · 28/02/2020 21:20

Yes, the GP himself is now a patient as he's been admitted to hospital

Bessica1970 · 28/02/2020 21:21

“He was a patient at Hazlemere Health Centre in Surrey”

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 28/02/2020 21:21

Are you sure? All the garlic I’ve ever bought comes from Spain.

Where do you shop? Whole Foods have Spanish garlic, the smaller white heads are Chinese.

OneForMeToo · 28/02/2020 21:22

Not the garlic again 😂 Ireland gets a lot from China but England doesn’t. It’s really easy to grow your own you just need a bit of frost to get it to go.

LarkDescending · 28/02/2020 21:23

Apologies Bessica1970. It does indeed say that in the BBC piece.

ofwarren · 28/02/2020 21:23

@Bessica1970 hmm, yes that is worded funny. The guardian are saying that a GP is the 20th case. This is what is annoying about them not giving us information. It just makes people worry more.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 28/02/2020 21:24

Oh sorry, Sainsbury's says their garlic comes from Spain.

ofwarren · 28/02/2020 21:24

I wonder who is right then, the guardian not the BBC? Or both and we've not been told of another case.

ofwarren · 28/02/2020 21:24

Guardian OR the BBC

LarkDescending · 28/02/2020 21:24

Local paper also says patient of the practice.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 28/02/2020 21:24

I'm happy to grow it, but it might take a while.

usernameishistory · 28/02/2020 21:25

The garlic talk has already been had, that that it can be very easily grown although it takes a long time to grow and needs to go through a frost (or fridge) to make a clove split into a bulb.

Mines not from china either though

ofwarren · 28/02/2020 21:25

Could it be both patient and GP and one of them is one of those cases from yesterday?
