janemaster

None of those videos are the videos I seen today Sad I wish they were tbh, then I could just think bunch of idiots.

FlyingNorth · 28/02/2020 15:51

Totally agree Rocket that for most people it's just interesting, but MN as a whole has a lot of posters (not me) with health anxiety. I hope they are hiding threads like this. jeez, mumsnet!! turning a bit fluffy and snowflakes lately! does them a disservice, I think. Just being public-spirited.

meredithgrey1 · 28/02/2020 15:52

Those in the gig economy or on ZHC, I definitely feel your concern. Remember though, we are a first world country, a civilised society with a government who can not be seen to shirk their responsibility to those in need

I think you'll find they very much can.

janemaster · 28/02/2020 15:58

I agree the Government will just expect people to manage their own finances. That is why self isolation won't work.

Enoughisenoughhhhh · 28/02/2020 16:18

janemaster exactly my thoughts.

2+ weeks in isolation wfh or otherwise on your normal pay is very manageable. 2+ weeks earning no money whatsoever with your tenuous job at risk of having vanished when you are able to return is an entirely different thing. The people making up these policies and guidelines have no idea whatsoever what it is like to live with the insecurity of a non-permanent job.

HeIenaDove · 28/02/2020 16:19

Ironically if you are already on benefits, it might be the case that you are more secure financially than people with jobs who suddenly get laid off or have to take unpaid leave. That's going to lead to some pretty nasty resentment

Universal Credit is NOT just an out of work benefit. Both those in and out of work have to attend appointments at the JC And are liable to sanction if they dont attend. No matter how sick they are.

Go on Twitter and search Universal Credit and Coronavirus. Its an eye opener.

HasaDigaEebowai · 28/02/2020 16:22

updates have gone eerily quiet and no UK update this afternoon?

ofwarren · 28/02/2020 16:25

WHO official: "If this was influenza we would probably have called this a pandemic by now, but what we've seen with this virus is that [containment measures work] and to declare a pandemic it's unhelpful to do that when you're still trying to contain a disease"

ofwarren · 28/02/2020 16:26

I think this is the latest the 2pm report has ever been

Fourtights · 28/02/2020 16:27

I feel very sorry for people in insecure jobs right now. Well more sorry then I usually do anyway. I doubt employers are going to be sympathetic to this.

Next time some minister is banging on about women like myself, who work from home part-time, being economically not active enough I hope they remember this scenario. I'm lucky enough that I'll still be able to do at least some of my work while also taking care of my child if school is closed and my employer won't sack me. Many other working parents are not going to be that fortunate, I hope they'll be given support by the Government to compensate for that.

amd4578 · 28/02/2020 16:28

I do suspect that if this virus had just not been blown up by media etc and just let it run its course then not many people will really have noticed a difference with the world as everyone would have thought they just had flu... Its the fact with social media the way it is now we are all far to easy to influence via social media and the news.

userxx · 28/02/2020 16:35

@amd4578 Prepare to get blasted.

wheresmymojo · 28/02/2020 16:35

Coronavirus has now wiped £200bn off the FTSE100...

Worst since financial crisis and probably going to get worse before it gets better.

Shouldn't affect those of us who don't need to cash anything in for years (pensions etc) but not good for those who were planning to take a lump sum this year.

Lycidas · 28/02/2020 16:36

@amd4578 You really think China voluntarily tanked its own economy for no reason other than media hype?

wheresmymojo · 28/02/2020 16:36

@amd4578

1 in 5 people with it have to be hospitalised.

How do you think that would go unnoticed and how do you think the NHS would deal with that?

I'm genuinely intrigued...

YoursTunbridgeWells · 28/02/2020 16:36

If this was 1918 and this was the Spanish influenza, then no we wouldn’t have had the level of information we have now. Actually the info could help us prepare and understand.

FourTeaFallOut · 28/02/2020 16:37

You don't think they would have noticed that 1 in 50 people who got the flu had died, 10 in 50 ended up in hospital on oxygen with it and worse?

You'd just have a load of mnetters coming on to say, "I wonder if anyone has got this virus that's gone through the house and DH is on oxygen and my mum's dead, does anyone have anything similar?" And everyone comes on and goes "yeah, it's going around"

Meanwhile there's a fucking enormous queue coming out of a&e...yeah, nothing to see here, no-one would notice

YoursTunbridgeWells · 28/02/2020 16:38

Has worldometers gone down?

Skyejuly · 28/02/2020 16:39

Has it been updated yet?

KoalasandRabbit · 28/02/2020 16:40

i just got on worldometers but there's a message saying issues due to volume of people accessing it.

ofwarren · 28/02/2020 16:41

I just love your posts @FourTeaFallOut 😁
Sensible, straight to the point and fucking hilarious 😂

FlyingNorth · 28/02/2020 16:42

Yours Yes, that is really not good.

ofwarren · 28/02/2020 16:42

Where is our 2pm report?? Do you think we're going to get bad news?

LittleSwede · 28/02/2020 16:43

I am wonder that too ofwarren!
