My GP, at the bottom of my road. WIBU to panic now? I have 2 young kids (1 baby.) I’m more concerned about them... 😕

That's the death rate. You have to factor in the infection rates.

Beau2020x · 10/02/2020 15:42

The person from Brighton with coronavirus (who is now in a London hospital) was wondering around Brighton for 2 weeks before they were admitted to hospital... guaranteed they will have come in contact with many others.

Only you can decide how careful you want to be. But I would 100% avoid the doctors surgery.

Well the number of posts on here panicking about it shows me there is hysteria. Of course the streets here are quiet - people aren’t idiots - they want to avoid the virus. It’s busier today as work started back up again but still lots working from home.

bitheby · 10/02/2020 15:49

They've closed the surgery so no chance she can go there. The Brighton patient has managed to infect a lot of people so far. Wonder why that might be.

I'm glad it's not at the bottom of my road although now it's there at least they will be deep cleaning and doing all they can to minimise the spread of infection.

Introvertedbuthappy · 10/02/2020 15:49

I’m not saying don’t be concerned, just to keep things in perspective that’s all.

motheroftwoboys · 10/02/2020 15:52

The people who already have the virus are being treated in Newcastle where I live. Absolutely zero concerns here.

HasaDigaEebowai · 10/02/2020 15:54

Don't go out and about in general if you don't have to, don't go anywhere with large crowds if you don't have to, wash your hands a lot. That's all anyone can do really.

It will be everywhere shortly I suspect. Brighton is clearly a hot spot, Southampton is now affected. Its now thought to be airborne so it will spread even with strict handwashing etc. You can't do anything but take sensible precautions.

I live in China and the hysteria in the U.K. is something to behold.

Are you for real?

Hingeandbracket · 10/02/2020 16:00

WIBU to panic now?
Yes

APatchyTomCat · 10/02/2020 16:01

I live in China and the hysteria in the U.K. is something to behold

What hysteria is that then? Please don’t confuse social media with actual life.

Introvertedbuthappy · 10/02/2020 16:01

Yes, just look at the threads here. The panic and worry here I get, totally. In the U.K., nope - don’t get it. Take appropriate precautions (as mentioned above) and you’ll be fine.

billsmothers · 10/02/2020 16:02

If you haven't been to the surgery then I wouldn't worry, especially as it seems to be having less of an impact on babies and children. It's understandable that you are though, I think most of us would because it's the fear of the unknown and a result of the media hype - they love a good sensational or shocking headline as we all buy more papers to find out the latest 'news' about it. It's quite irresponsible of them really.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 10/02/2020 16:02

They say it will be 2021 before they have a cure to roll out. starts food store inventory

GetOffYourHighHorse · 10/02/2020 16:03

'Its now thought to be airborne '

Is it? I read it was droplet so only when close (1 to 2m) to an infected person.

Introvertedbuthappy · 10/02/2020 16:03

My parents for one, asking us not to fly back as we’ll probably pass it on here. My colleagues who did fly back being told to keep away from family and friends. I get that it is how the media has portrayed it, but at the same time it’s important to keep things in perspective.

Introvertedbuthappy · 10/02/2020 16:03

@billsmothers I absolutely agree with you about the media.

billsmothers · 10/02/2020 16:04

Yes, just look at the threads here.

Here isn't a representative of the community as a whole, you don't get people starting threads to say they are not at all worried about the virus, it'd be like the Daily Mail having a front cover saying 'All is well with the world, we've got no sensational headlines to stir up paranoia or contempt'

The majority are not in a state of panic but you won't hear about them.

justasking111 · 10/02/2020 16:06

I have family in China, nearly 2000 miles from Wuhan. Up till now they have been able to contact us. When and if that ceases I shall worry. They sent pics. of their city centre taken on Friday morning, it was absolutely deserted, not a car or pedestrian.

The domestic economy is going to take a huge hit whatever happens.

ifonly4 · 10/02/2020 16:07

Even if are more likely to have mild symptons, my concern would be the fact they can pass it parents. Whose going to look after your children if you're isolated in hospital?

One good thing is that we're aware (unlike many of those in China in early stages) and we can do things to reduce the chances of getting it, ie wash hands well, use hand gel/sanitizer, try not to touch face, keep house very clean either with bleach, disinfectant and if possible reduce social connections - very hard with having to work, shop though.

Introvertedbuthappy · 10/02/2020 16:07

I’m also basing it off personal experiences and those of my friends and colleagues, but thanks for letting me know that most people there are reacting proportionately. My parents do read the Daily Mail - perhaps there’s the link!

EwwSprouts · 10/02/2020 16:08

I started a thread on this too as I think it's the start proper in UK. Not a panic. Factually, it has been transmitted to a primary health care worker. They have seen how many patients while unknowingly incubating the virus, many of whom will be at more risk than the general population due to other conditions/age etc? The Brighton population has a large element who commute to London.

Crunchymum · 10/02/2020 16:08

I have a double jab because research as shown that immunocompromised people like myself need it twice to have the best possible chance to build up immunity

@postopworry

I haven't heard this before? What is the research that you cite? How have you managed to get double jabbed?

Casino218 · 10/02/2020 16:09

I read that it's hitting adults more than kids

GetOffYourHighHorse · 10/02/2020 16:09

'Well the number of posts on here panicking about it shows me there is hysteria. Of course the streets here are quiet - people aren’t idiots - they want to avoid the virus. '

You said you live in china and the 'hysteria' in the UK is unreal. Again, the concern is because we have seen footage of extreme reactions in China, panic buying, people being removed from their homes by some kind of infection squads. So if people are overly concerned it is because of how we are seeing China handling/mishandling it.
