Ireland - wearing black armbands for a game near October 7th?

So the Irish football team thought it would be some sort of protest to wear black armbands for their recent mat h against Israel and guess what strangely the Israeli team wore black armbands for the victims of the worst terrorist atrocity in their country. So the Irish were left wearing black armbands for victims of the Israeli Gaza conflict but I guess not the victims of October 7th? No wonder the Israeli players were pissed. Ireland then dress and threw the dummy out the pram by saying they shouldn't be playing Israel again......pretty pathetic.

You can also see how for countries like Ireland October 7th is being erased from history as when they went for their black armband protest they probably very stupidly forgot about the proximity of a day of Israeli national mourning.

Israel wasn't created until 1948 to assuage the Western World guilt over WWII. Good intentions but no problem displacing the Palestinians that already lived there .

What’s done is done. We lost 1 million people in WW1 and 2. Everyone had a very hard time. Palestinians are not special in this regard.

Nofeckingway · Yesterday 14:37

@OpheliaWasntMad Pakistan was also a manufactured state created by the British .

Nofeckingway · Yesterday 14:39

@AgeingMillennial Palestinians were forcibly removed off their land . So they are a special case. Germany was punished for their part .

Yes and do you think that should be dismantled too?

Why are you bringing Germany into it?

Did they?! Ffs! Please tell me England haven’t done this?

Yep. To be fair, Cricket Ireland covers the whole of Ireland, and the matches were up north, but the team is made up of players from the whole island.

The only people I saw raising any fuss was The Countess, although I think there were some women's rights group more focused on the Taliban and Roderic O'Gorman also condemned the decision.

The players didn't get involved at all.

The UK has also recognised Palestine as a state. Doesn't mean it's okay to support the rape kidnap and murder of a proscribed terrorist organisation.

But who is supporting Hamas? I'm in Ireland and I have never ever not once heard a person support Hamas or condone the October 7th attacks. How on earth is criticising Israels current actions, or supporting the concept of Palestine as a free state the same as supporting terrorism. It doesn't even make sense. What about those who suggest 'united Ireland', does this mean they support IRA and want all NI protestants to be murdered and raped? No, because that would be a completely illogical jump to make. Yet that seems to be the logic of many people on here.

Kneecap and their crowd chanting ‘up Hamas’?

@AgeingMillennial Because you brought up WWII. I think everyone's opinion is valid it's OK to disagree .
It's fine to have immigration in any country , once you don't displace the people already there to accommodate them .
There is a huge argument for restoring Native American land that was forcibly taken off them .
And for the displaced people of Pakistan too.

So what you want to see is immigrants displaced to give land back to the natives, because they have more of a right to it? Thats seen as very right wing here.

Your WW2 knowledge is terrible btw! Educate yourself.

Are you serious? You think those speaking out against a conflict makes a person a supporter of terrorism in a general way? That Irish people support Hamas cos they love a bit of terrorism?

So one fan group at a medium sized gig? And you think they represent a country and culture? Christ, go look at British people abroad at football matches and be really grateful that most people have better critical thinking than you do. And by the way kneecap are not Irish, they are British. So I guess that makes you a Hamas supporter (applying your logic, of course)

It’s just something to say when they can’t think of any reason to justify what Israel is doing to the Palestinian people.

I am also Irish and do not recognise the Ireland some of these posts are referencing. I have never once heard anyone being antisemitic in Ireland. I don't know of anyone who would look at what happened on October 7th and think "great" or anything of the sort.
I know plenty of people who will rightfully stand up against the slaughter of innocent people and that goes for October 7th just as it goes for the atrocities going on ever since in Gaza.
There are people on Mumsnet who seem to believe that the "antisemitism" stamp can give them free rule to block free speech and to stand up for what is right. I am happy that Ireland as a nation has the balls to be counted. It is absolutely nothing to do with hating anyone. It's standing up for humanity.

Better change your name then 🤣

I've even had to unfollow Diana Henry on Instagram which I am gutted about. Her books are my favourites and I can't even look at them any more. It's upsetting finding out that someone you admire is actually one of those Palestine flag-waving hypocritical nutjobs who doesn't understand what the definition of a genocide is. And anyone who even thinks about doing anything in support of Gaza and against Israel on October the 7th, not the day before or the day after, but ON THAT DAY is nothing but a revolting, heinous, unadulterated pure cunt.

I think you'll find Kneecap class themselves as Irish as they are free to do under the GFA. Citizens in NI can hold either passport or both.

It's only this one conflict that seems to bother some of you though. We've all got social media and some of the hate coming from ireland is appalling.

Some of you are all so very outraged only if Jews are defending themselves and retaliating yet strangely silent about every other conflict. Why is that? As others have said Afghanistan cricket team given a warm welcome. Do you know how they oppress their civilians and how horrific life is for women there? Hasn't anyone in ireland heard of the Taliban and atrocities they committed?

I'll ask again what are your thoughts about Yemen, have you even heard of it?

So yes be warriors fighting for alleged injustices but try to be less transparent with who your very specific intolerance is aimed at.

But it was ok for Israel to continue on as normal that day commiting atrocities in Gaza in an act of continuous retaliation? Do you even realise the hypocrisy you spout?

Yes. In a conflict the country that had hundreds murdered and hundreds abducted will retaliate. Hamas knew, blame them.

I am many things, not all of them good, I'm sure, but if there is one thing I am not it's a hypocrite.

I'm not sure which particular day you are referring to, but if it was immediately post-October 7th I doubt there was a single Israeli who was 'continuing as normal.'

But yes, it was okay. It was totally justified.

Another disgusting anti-Irish thread

Isn't it okay to be anti-Ireland then? Aren't you anti-Israel?

Is it only okay for people to be anti the same things as you?
