Conflict in the Middle East

Is the green party starting to regret it's association with Islamists?

The green party, ostensibly about climate protection and general progressive values seems to have gotten into bed with Islamist sympathisers and the amount of anti semitism and basic hatred of their own country is now obvious.

The green party now at least locally are known as a party that has sympathies towards all manner of Islamist causes including Hamas's objective to wipe Israel of the face of the Earth.

Wouldn't be surprised if they produce a motion declaring climate change a Jewish conspiracy........

I will never vote Green again, it’s simply not the same party it was.

I just can't understand how they can be pro-transgenderism and queer theory, and also pro-Islam/Palestine, when Islamist regimes throw anyone LGBTQ off tall buildings.

They have suspended a core principle of environmentalism: critical thinking. Of course their two new causes are mutually incompatible. But that is what happens when a group abandon their founding principles to become vote-chasing omnicausers.

And to another PP who said that the Greens were originally overly-focused on the environment, that’s like complaining that Labour were originally over-focused on fair wages and working conditions. Ridiculous as it might sound, I think that this is part of why they have widened their focus. I’d say that the Greens have done their job so well that they have almost done themselves out of a role: they have influenced politics and society to become more ecologically focused and all parties now include environmental guardianship. So the Greens are prioritising remaining relevant over remaining rational.

Or, more cynically, the fact that this a party that focused on caring and self-sacrifice for a greater good, and therefore attracted people with similar characteristics, is inherently vulnerable to infiltration by more ruthless people.

Are you able to define what you mean by 'pro Islam', 'pro Palestine' and 'Islamist'. What exactly are the Green party in favour of, in your opinion? Is this evidenced in writing by the party themselves?

Same question to @mids2019 too.

Edited

In my opinion, the Green Party is in favour of gaining votes for themselves. The evidence shows in their election tactics.

They won key seats like Gorton and Denton specifically by running localised campaigns targeting the British-Pakistani and Muslim demographics.

They printed official campaign materials in Urdu and Bengali demanding that voters 'punish Labour for Gaza'.

On the voting day, Green campaigners stationed themselves outside polling stations on Stockport Road in Manchester with a megaphone, chanting: 'From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free. One, two, three, four, occupation no more. Five, six, seven, eight, Islam is great. Nine, ten, eleven, twelve, Labour Party is going to hell.’

As far as I know, there were no consequences for these highly divisive actions from the party leadership.

At the Green party conference, a 'Zionism is Racism' motion was pushed by the Greens for Palestine subgroup.

When a historically environmentalist party prints foreign policy leaflets in select languages, permits controversial radical chants at polling stations without any internal consequences, and megaphones religious slogans to win votes, they are explicitly angling for a specific subset of the pro-Palestine electorate.

All Polanski cares about is getting votes. Where they come from is immaterial. Getting the Muslim bloc has worked - the fact that he is just a useful front doesn’t yet bother him. All he wants is a platform and fame.

DebbieSavage · 04/10/2026 07:21

The problem with the Green Party is that they have traditionally been too focused on environmentalism, which is a noble goal, but it will only reach a certain percentage of the British public.

I think quite wisely they have realised that there is a growing untapped reservoir of disenfranchised Muslim voters in this country that are essentially politically homeless because of Labour's weak response to the horrific human rights abuses on the people of Gaza. And if you look at history, the left making a pact with austere conservative Islamic voters is an excellent way to help shield the right from taking power.

There will be a few wrinkles that will need to be ironed out. But muslims are famously open to different points of view, so long as you appreciate their position on dealing with Israel and sincere cultural practices like cousin marriage, which the NHS has said the risks are exaggerated.

"Muslims are famously open to different points of view". I genuinely can't tell if this is sarcasm or not.

Why on earth was I deleted? I just said that some posters are of the same beliefs as DebbieSavage’s spoof posts.

Anyway, I see the lovely kind Greens have adopted the Zionism is Racism motion. Additionally I read that any party member who attends a synagogue can be reported. Surely this can’t be true?!

Summary by AI:

Concerns Over Synagogue Membership & Sanctions
Sanctions Risk: Critics and Jewish advocacy groups voiced sharp concern over the motion's implications for Jewish members who belong to synagogues that define themselves as Zionist or express support for Israel. Under early proposed interpretations, members participating in or supporting "Zionist" institutions could face internal complaints or party sanctions for breaching party racism policies.

Rejection by Mainstream Jewish Leadership: Leaders across the Jewish community, including rabbis from the Movement for Progressive Judaism, strongly condemned the resolution. They warned that defining Zionism as inherently racist effectively penalizes observant Jews whose synagogues and religious communities view connection to Israel as a core part of their faith and identity.

Deep Internal Divisions
Leadership Split: The vote exposed a major rift within the party. Four out of five Green Party MPs—including Ellie Chowns, Siân Berry, and former co-leaders Adrian Ramsay and Carla Denyer—publicly rejected the motion, warning that it risks fueling division and undermining the party’s advocacy for peace.

Party Leadership Position: Green Party leader Zack Polanski (who is himself Jewish) skipped the vote and had advocated for amendments to emphasize equal rights for both Israelis and Palestinians rather than a blanket declaration.

Protests and Public Backlash
Demonstrations occurred outside the Brighton conference center, featuring both pro-Israel protesters condemning the party and counter-demonstrators supporting the Palestinian-led motion.

Communal leadership and Jewish Green members have pledged to challenge the policy implementation to protect the rights of Jewish party members to participate fully without renouncing their communal or synagogue affiliations.

I think there needs to be a new ‘green’ party wholly concerned with environmental issues - they were brilliant at keeping these debated and in public eye.

No idea. You could always challenge it by asking MN why. Perhaps on Monday when there are more paid moderators around.

The Green Party is in my view extreme, the vote today shows this. I would like to think this is the end for them.

Yes the most soft party in the past has now become extreme. Sad but I hope they suffer a decline now.

we are lucky that we live in a great country such as the UK where all views are tolerated and you can express yours alongside others.

I wondered whether the whole post was meant to be ironic.

@DebbieSavage "But muslims are famously open to different points of view"

Do you actually know many Muslims Debbie? Because they are famously not open to different points of view. Their guidance is drawn from the Quran and the hadiths and if it isn't written in those, it's wrong and non-negotiable.

The Green party has completely abandoned its reason for existing, and now embraces every fashionable omnicause, from transgenderism to anti-Semitism. They no longer examine evidence, just look at everything through emotional, local-vote-grabbing views.

This!

dontgiveafigso · 04/10/2026 17:01

Probably not as the Jewish vote is tiny and the Muslim vote is huge. Which is ironic as Greens are very transwomen are women which I do not think is a view shared by many Muslims.

The Green Party hasn't cared about the environment since we used to talk about acid rain and the ozone layer when I was a kid. Their main concern seems to be embracing every cause that a) might win them some votes and b) makes them look cool and progressive (probably the more important of the two). If it has the added edge of being anti-western values then all the better.

At least there is kind of honesty about this... we hate Israelis and want Israel off the map. It is now quite easy to point the finger and say if you hate Jews there is your party....

Let's hope a lof of right minded people avoid the greens like the plague
