This journalist admits that his reporting from Gaza was not accurate because he was afraid of retaliation from Hamas.
Why have so many believed every report from Gaza journalists?

Do you attend the marches in London? I’ve seen loads of them ( they’ve occurred on a weekly basis straight after October 7 ) . Most of the people on them seem fine but I’ve never once seen an anti Hamas placard and I seen lots of “river to the sea” .
This thread is about Hamas’ success at creating an anti Israeli narrative so that is why the posts are about that ( rather than focusing on the casualties of the war that Hamas started)

Why are you attending weekly marches I. london when you have such strong pro Israeli views?

I am sorry, but the idea that
Oct 7th's UTIMATE goal, while also giving 'ordinary' Palestinians the opportunity of an orgy of frenzied killing and raping of Jews, was to start a war in Gaza and demonise Israel on the world stage for civilian deaths, who were actively used as 'necessary sacrifices' is baffling to me

would hinge on Israeli leadership being an abnormal level of low intelligence to have walked into such an obvious trap and then stayed in the same trap carrying out Hamas’ ‘ultimate goal’ for three years.

I bet Netanyahu knew the ultimate aim of Oct 7th as well but there was no other option for Israel…
I also do not agree that Netanyahu knew this Hamas’ ‘ultimate aim’ or had no other option but to knowingly collaborate with Hamas to get Israel demonised on the world stage by allowing the conflict to escalate into causing tens of thousands of dead Palestinians.

In short, I think the reason most people can’t nod along with all this is not because they are ‘dumb and deranged with Jew hatred’ but rather because you have generated an antisemitic conspiracy theory that casts Netanyahu and his government as kapos.

Now, I am highly critical of Netanyahu and his government, but your conspiracy theory of knowingly collaborating with Hamas or being too stupid to realise he is being played by Hamas do not come from a place of viewing we Jews as intelligent, capable human beings. And by capable, I mean capable of great good and great evil as are all other human beings.

I thought everyone knew Sinwar’s goal with October 7th was to force Israel into a massive retaliation that would ultimately play into Hamas’ desire to paint Israel as the evil ones.
Yes I think Netanyahu has been stupid in his response which played into Hamas’ hands but I’m not sure what the best response would be.

Hamas officials defended the October 7 attacks despite Israel's brutal response, saying it "woke the world from a deep sleep."

Well, in line of talking about propaganda, I would say most people saying the chant believe the propaganda that it is a metaphor for Palestinians being free in the West Bank (of the river Jordan) to Gaza (coast of Mediterranean Sea) by having their own state free of occupation by Israel.

So we cannot assume everyone repeating an antisemitic chant is aware that it is also code for destroying Israel as the Hamas propaganda says it’s a call for equality, freedom and a Palestinian state.

It’s a great example of how insidious propaganda is and how good people can be fooled by it.

I’ve possibly seen more than you’ve attended as they’ve occurred on a weekly basis here. I’ve sat beside the protesters in the tube. I’ve seen the placards. I’ve heard the chants.

Well this is what the Israeli leadership tell us. We have to keep destroying Gaza and murdering innocent civilians because we aren't safe. We face an existential threat. Does that seriously make sense to you if you pause to consider it?

The 'does Israel have a right to exist' question is a completely different point. You seem to dislike Polanski and are trying to score political points here. Polanski (judging from what you wrote), appears to be making a fair point.

Agree. Ben Gvir in his election campaign is talking about "selling Palestinians" to neighbouring countries and push for Palestinians to leave the West Bank. How? Well in his words:

The more you allow soldiers to shoot and use force, the less manpower you need.”

“I will remove the restrictions on our soldiers. Today, the police rules of engagement are much more lenient than those of the army,” he added.

Ben Gvir also criticised Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying the premier had “not want[ed] it enough” when it came to advancing a policy of Palestinian displacement.

These are the words of the current Israeli security minister. It is blatantly clear who is facing an existential threat to its existence and life itself.

You know what @rainingsnoring why bother.

I have never once heard anyone saying Israel should not exist and I have been on lots of marches (as opposed to the vehemently pro Israel posters who seem to have attended all of them and seen Pro Hamas signs)
It's the same ploy Netanyahu uses to muddy the waters, we won't talk about Israel murdering two mothers (one pregnant) and daughters over the past few days let's just say anyone opposing this doesn't want Israel to exist.
Then the conversation can be steered back to safer grounds
The idea of the question "does Israel have the right to exist" started with Israel themselves and their politically advocacy.
They have pulled off a masterstroke to be honest getting people(I won't use the term useful idiots because it's the main vocabulary of some posters ) in the West with no links to the area to support them while they expand their territory, murder civilians and are still seen as the higher moral ground and victim .

It is an echo chamber. There is no point in bothering. The difference that I noticed with those who sympathise greatly with Palestine, they also acknowledge and sympathise with the suffering of the Jewish people on October 7th.
A lot of people who support Israel believe that the Palestinians deserve this, they don’t have a place there. It is unliveable now, the people won’t have much choice but to leave the land.
I personally think this will increase the anti Israel problems as so far it has increased anti Israel hate.

Absolutely agree.

As I said Israel should be studied for the absolute masterpiece in getting people all over the world to support them as they murder and pillage.
I genuinely cannot understand that blind support.

OpheliaWasntMad · 04/10/2026 10:06

Just to add - I don’t have “strong pro Israeli views” and I don’t have blind support for Israel and I despise Netanyahu’s government.
But I despise Hamas more and I think they have brought the suffering to Gaza and have been let off the hook.

Perhaps if you attended an actual march rather than seeing people on the tube (I'm nowhere near London so can't comment on that) and listened to the speakers , many of whom were Palestinian and seen the children, old people, young professionals who all just want death and destruction to stop you might see the bigger picture.

You can say it's about Hamas but right at this moment the biggest threat to Palestinian people (like the mothers and daughters over the past couple of days) is Israel.

You said about sitting beside people on the tube that's why I replied to that.
I also said I can't comment on London because I don't live near there so your second sarky comment was unnecessary.

I'll leave it there if you can't discuss in good faith.

That's the opposite to what I have observed. I don't see those who sympathise greatly with Palestine also showing a lot of sympathy for the suffering of the Jewish people on October 7th.

I don't think we've seen that on this thread or on most threads tbh.

The echo chamber I see is that Israel is almost exclusively talked about in negative ways by the "pro Palestinians" on MN, and their suffering on October 7th & the aftermath rarely acknowledged.

Agreed. I did say above that many Israelis agree with the statement. There is radicalisation on both sides.

I can't say that I've ever seen a pro Israel poster here say anything positive about Palestine. I don't think I saw a single positive reaction from a pro Israel poster here to Palestine being finally recognised by the British government. The consensus seemed to be that 'it wasn't the time' yet the same people will snaffle on about Israels 'right to exist'.

Can anyone point me to all of the non negative posts about Palestine from pro Israel posters here because I will happily be corrected.

I will go to the trouble of digging out posts where I have said things that are positive about Palestinians after @EmeraldShamrock000 goes to the trouble of doing what I asked first, which is providing evidence for her claim that The difference that I noticed with those who sympathise greatly with Palestine, they also acknowledge and sympathise with the suffering of the Jewish people on October 7th.
