So the "Trump toll" was cancelled after one day. To be replaced with investment deals from Gulf states in the region.

He told reporters, "I like that actually because I don’t think anybody should be able to charge a fee for the for the strait or for any other strait relationship in terms of other sections of the world.

“I don’t think anybody should be really in that position, but we were doing it as a reimbursement. The Gulf states are going to invest a tremendous amount of money into the United States.

Mr Trump later clarified Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait had offered to make “massive investments” in the US.

TopPocketFind · 14/07/2026 17:37

Just cancelled, the deals will never happen.

They might. It's not like deals between the US and the Gulf States are unusual.

From May 2025:

President Donald J. Trump Secures $200 Billion in New U.S.-UAE Deals and Accelerates Previously Committed $1.4 Trillion UAE Investment

Today in Abu Dhabi, President Donald J. Trump announced over $200 billion in commercial deals between the United States and the United Arab Emirates—
bringing the total of investment agreements in the Gulf region to over $2 trillion.

  • The 200 billion UAE deals build on the $600 billion in Saudi Arabia and $1.2 trillion in Qatar the President secured on behalf of the American people.

  • The following represent just a few of the many transformative deals secured in the United Arab Emirates:
  • Boeing and GE Aerospace secured a $14.5 billion commitment from Etihad Airways to invest in 28 American-made Boeing 787 and 777X aircraft powered by GE engines. With the inclusion of the next-generation 777X in its fleet plan, the investment deepens the longstanding commercial aviation partnership between the UAE and the United States, fueling American manufacturing, driving exports, and supporting 60,000 U.S. jobs.
  • In Oklahoma, Emirates Global Aluminum will invest to develop a $4 billion primary aluminum smelter project, one of the first new aluminum smelters in America in 45 years, that will create a thousand jobs in America, strengthen critical mineral supply chains, and double current U.S. production capacity.
  • In line with President Trump’s executive order to unleash American energy leadership worldwide, ExxonMobil, Occidental Petroleum, and EOG Resources are partnering with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) for expanded oil and natural gas production valued at $60 billion that will help lower energy costs and create hundreds of skilled jobs in both countries.
  • RTX is partnering with Emirates Global Aluminum and the UAE’s Tawazun Council on a pioneering Gallium project that will help secure and stabilize the United States’ critical mineral supply chain. By diversifying sources of this essential input for semiconductors and defense technologies, the partnership strengthens America’s supply security, supports high-tech manufacturing, and creates jobs across the U.S. critical minerals and defense industrial base.
  • Qualcomm is expanding its global innovation footprint through partnerships with ADIO and e&. A new Global Engineering Center in Abu Dhabi will focus on AI, data centers, and industrial IoT – advancing the UAE’s digital transformation while supporting U.S. research, engineering jobs and demand for American technologies. Meanwhile, the collaboration with e& accelerates the deployment of advanced connectivity, edge AI, and cloud computing solutions. Together, these efforts strengthen Qualcomm’s leadership in critical technologies, fuel U.S high-tech job creation, and bolster America’s economic and national security.
  • Amazon Web Services, e&, and the UAE Cybersecurity Council have launched a Sovereign Cloud Launchpad to accelerate public cloud services adoption in the UAE. The initiative is expected to contribute $181 billion to the UAE’s digital economy by 2033 and includes a new UAE cybersecurity technology Innovation center. This collaboration expands demand for U.S.–developed cloud infrastructure and cybersecurity technologies, supporting high-skilled jobs in the United States and reinforcing U.S. leadership in secure digital innovation globally.

Then there's Saudi Arabia:

A pivotal moment in U.S.–Saudi relations occurred in May 2017 when President Donald Trump and King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud signed a series of letters of intent for Saudi Arabia to purchase arms from the U.S., totalling $110 billion immediately and $350 billion over ten years.

In 2023, Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) made a significant move by ordering up to 121 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft for its new airline, Riyadh Air, and the existing Saudia Airlines, in a deal estimated at nearly $37 billion. This investment underscored Saudi Arabia's commitment to expanding its aviation sector and strengthening economic ties with the U.S

On May 13, 2025, the U.S.–Saudi Investment Forum convened in Riyadh. President Donald Trump and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman hosted the forum, which attracted prominent American business leaders, including Elon Musk (CEO of Tesla and SpaceX), Sam Altman (CEO of OpenAI), Larry Fink (CEO of BlackRock), and Andy Jassy (CEO of Amazon), and others.

The forum focused on enhancing cooperation in technology, defense, and finance sectors. Saudi Arabia pledged $600 billion in U.S. investments, with potential increases up to $1 trillion, encompassing defense deals, artificial intelligence initiatives, and capital investments.

I was talking about these specific deals that Trump mentions to save face. He also wanted them to join the Abraham Accords at some point.

He was serious about the toll but got laughed at.

No doubt he was serious like when he told people to drink bleach to kill Covid
🤣🤣

Twiglets1 · 14/07/2026 19:08

Presenting opinions as facts doesn't make them anything but opinions.

He was serious about the toll - but was he?

I said straight away it's Trump rhetoric and Jade agreed with me saying Yes, just more rhetoric I’m sure.

Everyone acknowledges that Trump says stuff he doesn't mean all the time but on this - suddenly he was serious? For a few hours?

Yes but again, how do you know further deals won't get done with the Gulf states? Lots of huge deals have already been done so it's not unfeasible.

Who are you talking about when you said he wanted "them" to join the Accords at some point?

Trump on the Gulf states ofcourse. Don't you remember discussing it?

Deals could well be done but not the ones he is shouting about right now.

Yes I’m just confused as to why you mentioned the Accords when we were talking about Trump and future deals. Don’t you believe the Accords may be expanded at some point?

TopPocketFind · 14/07/2026 19:58

I don't know.

I was talking about his latest comments.

The AA comments were just an example of him not having a clue what he is talking about.

DrPrunesqualer · 14/07/2026 21:12

I thought the point of your post @TopPocketFind was to show that he hasn’t got a clue about stuff he spouts

The AA is just an example, not unlike many many others, of which the 20% charge is just another

The AA isn’t relevant here in any other aspect.

Twiglets1 · 14/07/2026 21:15

He's not talking about the Accords anymore anyway since the MoU is apparently over. It was never something he was going to be able to insist on so can be put in the box of "Trump rhetoric" along with the 20% tolls that lasted a day.

Big trade deals between the US and the Gulf States on the other hand are not unusual and therefore can't be dismissed as something Trump hasn’t got a clue about.

So you're saying he doesn't have a clue about stuff he spouts while talking about future deals with Gulf states. But the US already does lots of deals with Gulf states so how can you be so sure that future big deals will never happen with regard to countries like Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar?

You haven't even explained once how you can be so sure that future big deals aren't being planned with regard to countries like Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar. Just gone off at a tangent about the Abraham Accords rather than answer that question. But ok, end of conversation.

Trump says strikes will continue until he says it's enough
Speaking in an interview on Fox News, president Donald Trump said that strikes will continue on Iran until “I say it’s enough”.

They [Iran] have some fight left but they don’t have much.”

Trump also told Fox News that he would expand US strikes on Iran next week to target power plants and bridges if Tehran does not make a deal.

Next week it gets really bad for them because next week comes the power plants. Next week comes the bridges,” Trump said. We’re going to knock out all their power plants. We’re going to knock out all their bridges unless they get to the table and negotiate.”
