Trump is desperate. How can he resolve the Iran shitshow?

1000 replies

TooBigForMyBoots · 06/04/2026 00:32

He is flailing, desperate and increasingly unhinged. Weakening the USA, alienating allies and strengthening the enemies of democracy with every step.

How can he fix this?
Can he fix it at all?

Trump claims that NATO now wants to help with the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking to Fox News, the US president said peace talks with Iran were "very friendly" towards the end.

"We're going to be blockading the Strait of Hormuz, it'll take a little while," he said, adding that "it won't take long to clean out the strait".

He claimed "numerous countries are going to be helping us" with the strait, adding that the UK and other nations were sending minesweepers.

@Stirabout this CNN report looks at the AI Lego videos in terms of Iran's asymmetrical warfare, knowing its target audience, and utilising social media in a digital age.

I took it as given that they were being produced by, or on behalf of, the Iranians, so was a bit surprised at the initial reluctance to admit it to the BBC. It is certainly no secret online.

I was looking for the video I had seen, where a creator, described as part of a team, was being interviewed by a female journalist, but the BBC one popped up first. Are we in for an Iranian Banksy mystery?

Why we are at this point is important.
Trump and friends ignored their own analysts before the war.
They aren't suddenly going to make good choices now.

Not that there are any good choices.

It seems so
but it’s clear young people in Iran are running the social media campaign while it’s older ones in the US
hence Irans success in this area

I am so terribly terribly tired of Trump and the Americans. I wish the American people would just stand up against him. How can they tolerate this man as their president is so far beyond me.

Me too. There is a bleak future for all of us while he’s in power. I’m sure nobody is thanking the lunatic repeatedly for sparing millions of lives.
I don’t wtf he think he is or why he is allowed to continue.
The sooner the better he’s out.

The bbc have reported Trump has declared the U.K. and ‘other countries’ are sending mine sweepers.

US boats on Saturday were given a warning by Iran when they attempted to enter the Straits and they subsequently backed off.
Although tbh it’s hard to know what or who to believe atm

Im hoping the US don’t push Iran on this. An attack on US naval ships will see an end to the ceasefire and the US will blame Iran for that

The UK does not really have minesweepers now. They have an experimental drone system, but it's still in trials/testing/ approvals stage. And the US has no dedicated minesweepers either.

The problem with the MAGA mind is it is built on the dangerous sand of American exceptionalism and a weird idea that johnny foreigner can't best us (something that they may have stolen from the Brits).

having seen how the MAGA magic works (and realisting how easy it is to repurpose) it's hardly surprising that Iran is able to run a really slick social media engagement campaign to do the same thing it's drones are doing, and sneak under the enemy defences. In this case getting them shown on primetime TV.

History buffs, who know that Iran could just as easily be called Persia (and indeed still is by many) would be less surprised. Especially as they recounted the place the Persian empire(s) have played in world affairs.

Iran is currently run by a bunch of prehistoric religious nutters because the US deposed their elected leader in the 50s and then supported the despotic regime of the Shah.

We do have some capability, not much. And it's not proven. But our boffins are excellent.

Now it seems desalination plants are back on the menu. From CNN feed:
-----------
""While he said Iran’s military infrastructure had been essentially “wiped out” over more than 40 days of war with the United States, President Donald Trump said some potential targets for US military action remain, including the country’s water desalination plants, its power grid and bridges.

“We’ve wiped out their whole country, essentially,” the president said on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures With Maria Bartiromo.”

The only to thing left really is their water, which would be very devastating to hit,” he added.

The president also said the country still has “some more missile manufacturing plants,” before adding: “We know every one of them.”

“We still have other things,” he said.""
---------
So back to that then. How will he raise the stake this time ?

Yep spotted his latest rants

Trump threatens to destroy Iran's energy infrastructure if no deal is reached
Trump has reiterated his threat to destroy Iran’s power plants and other civilian energy infrastructure if no deal is reached to end the war, which he started with Israel in what is widely seen as an illegal and unprovoked attack.
“I could take out Iran in one day,” he told Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo by phone.

New tech added to RFA Lyme Bay so it can act as minehunting mothership
Article dated March 29th 2026:

The Royal Navy is stepping up its mine hunting capabilities with new cutting-edge uncrewed equipment being added to RFA Lyme Bay in the coming days.

The high-tech equipment will be able to detect, identify and neutralise threats and is part of the Royal Navy’s transition to a ‘hybrid navy’.

The move comes after RFA Lyme Bay was brought to heightened readiness several weeks ago.

After being fitted with the technology, Lyme Bay will be able to store, prepare, deploy and recover a variety of autonomous and crewless technology, from underwater drones to minehunting boats – acting as a crewed ‘mothership’ for drone tech.

Potential war crimes yes. Again. So he claims to have saved 50 million in Idia/Pakistan, and is back to directly threatening 90 million.

And it did not work last time.

Anyone think this might work in Trump's favour? He has now got a lot of ships and troops in the area.

The idea of a naval blockade was first suggested last week by retired Gen. Jack Keane, one of the nation’s top military strategists.

“If the war resumes and after we degrade Iran’s remaining military assets sufficiently, the US military could choose to occupy Kharg — or to destroy it,” Keane wrote it a New York Post column. “Alternatively, the US Navy could set up a blockade, shutting down Tehran’s export lifeline.”

"If we preserve Kharg’s infrastructure but take physical control, we’d have a chokehold over Iran’s oil and its economy,” he added. “That’s the ultimate leverage we’d need to seize its ‘nuclear dust,’ or stores of enriched uranium, and to eliminate its enrichment facilities.”

'IF' is such a big, little word.

Maybe but you can't go back in time only forward and the Straight of Hormuz has to be opened somehow now we are where we are.

It was entirely predictable. From what I have read, concerns about the SOH was one of the reasons that U.S. have had to previously negotiate with Iran.

US blocks the strait. The price of oil increases rapidly affecting U.S. customers too. How long do you think that’s going to last for? Trump previously released sanctions on Iranian oil at sea and Russia oil being sold due to concerns about oil price. Trump apparently is hoping to choke off funds from Iranian regime. He’s choking off oil supplies to the rest of the world too, as well concerns about food shortages due to lack of fertiliser. So pissed off the rest of the world are having to deal with a pile of s* created by the US and Israel.

Trump sends troops to Iran- I really worry about them due to the drones and missiles Iran still has. Vietnam number 2?

China is sending defensive missiles to Iran, allegedly according to U.S. intelligence reports. One apparently downed a U.S. plane.

https://edition.cnn.com/2026/04/12/world/live-news/iran-us-war-talks-trump

The point of surrounding yourself with good analysts is that you don’t have to say if only we’d thought of that.

Didn’t two more US generals and the army chief of staff recently have to leave? Wonder what words of caution they tried to give Hegseth and Trump.

Well he calls wind turbines, 'windmills', which apparently Chyna has loads of. Someone probably said a sea going vessel of some sort and in his mind it was a mine sweeper.

Islandsofsand · 12/04/2026 18:11

What’s the solution? More negotiations. Perhaps some concessions will be needed now too. Iran might well end up in a better situation than it started but look what happened in Afghanistan and Vietnam. Military might doesn’t always lead to victory and it’s not like Trump nor the world has time on it’s hands with the SOH being blocked.

The Israeli opposition leaders are already talking about Netanyahu failing to meet his objectives and leaving Israel in a potentially more precarious position.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 12/04/2026 18:25

I don’t think that he was willing to negotiate at all. It’s all part of his plan to take control and the waters and bully Iran. If he’d any sense he realise that this fight is too big to win. Sadly, he has a one track mind.
Only America can take control from within though judging by the daily mail comments, there is a lot of blood thirsty supporters.

Scary if the echo chamber of “blood thirsty” supporters are what’s egging him on, on the back of Hegseth who appears to think it’s a religious crusade and Israel who doesn’t want a ceasefire.

My respect for Starmer has increased on the back of this. I don’t want to pay more to run my car, heat my home or pay for my mortgage. But I’d much more prefer the country that I live in doesn’t support someone else’s illegal war that’s killing children and adults that don’t look quite look like us nor threatening to destroy their infrastructure.

Can’t imagine Macron acquiescing to sending support after recent comments from him. Really smacks of desperation if that is what Trump is relying on.
