Conflict in the Middle East

Trump is desperate. How can he resolve the Iran shitshow?

1000 replies

TooBigForMyBoots · 06/04/2026 00:32

He is flailing, desperate and increasingly unhinged. Weakening the USA, alienating allies and strengthening the enemies of democracy with every step.

How can he fix this?
Can he fix it at all?

Anyone think this might work in Trump's favour? He has now got a lot of ships and troops in the area.

The idea of a naval blockade was first suggested last week by retired Gen. Jack Keane, one of the nation’s top military strategists.

“If the war resumes and after we degrade Iran’s remaining military assets sufficiently, the US military could choose to occupy Kharg — or to destroy it,” Keane wrote it a New York Post column. “Alternatively, the US Navy could set up a blockade, shutting down Tehran’s export lifeline.”

"If we preserve Kharg’s infrastructure but take physical control, we’d have a chokehold over Iran’s oil and its economy,” he added. “That’s the ultimate leverage we’d need to seize its ‘nuclear dust,’ or stores of enriched uranium, and to eliminate its enrichment facilities.”

The US would then move from not just being Israel’s supporter in the war but an invader and occupier in their own right
I can’t see that it would be in the USs favour globally

They couldn't hold Vietnam - despite putting a man on the moon at the same time.

That would have been rated as 100x easier than this nonsense.

Well, seems like Trump is going with the naval blockade. That's what he says today, anyway!

I am so terribly terribly tired of Trump and the Americans. I wish the American people would just stand up against him. How can they tolerate this man as their president is so far beyond me.

So let me get this straight. He was at a UFC fight as the talks were closing. And now he is going to blockade the strait, and stop any oil that is coming out. So he will be the one EXTORTING THE WORLD.

Me confused.

So when he does it, he's saving the world. When anyone else does it, they are extorting the world.
Agree the optics of him being at a fight were not by chance!

That ‘locked and loaded, finish what is left of Iran’ is definitely classic Trump in the playground

Trump has no legal right to intercept vessels in International waters in these circumstances or is he doing that for the rest of the world too.
He really wants that Nobel peace prize doesn’t he 😆

I think he is pissed off because other individual nations/ oil companies/ shippers are doing their own deals. He wants to save the world, as you say.

And he is not getting a cut of the tolls,

There's a video interview as well online

For our new BBC podcast, Top Comment, we spoke to a representative of Explosive Media, one of the key accounts generating these clips. He wanted us to refer to him as Mr Explosive.

He's a savvy social media operator who initially denies working for the Iranian government. In previous interviews the outlet has said it is "totally independent". But upon further questioning, Mr Explosive admits the regime is a "customer" - something he's never before confirmed publicly.

After some back-and-forth in our conversation, Mr Explosive admits the Iranian government is indeed a "customer" of his company. In earlier Instagram messages, he'd told us his operation had been directly commissioned for multiple projects by Iranian officials.

Before the outbreak of the war this year, thousands of protesters were killed in a brutal crackdown by the regime. The US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (Hrana) reports a death toll of at least 7,000 civilians.

Strait of Hormuz not Iran’s to control, oil CEO says

The Strait of Hormuz has never been Iran’s to close or restrict the navigation through, the chief executive officer of United Arab Emirates state oil giant ADNOC, said today on social media.

Sultan Al Jaber said that any disruption would threaten energy, food and health security worldwide, warning that setting such a precedent would be “dangerous and unacceptable”.

“The world simply cannot afford it and must not allow it,” he added.

Notonthestairs · 12/04/2026 15:15

the Straits were open on the 27th February- it’s closed because US and Israel launched an ill conceived war and ignored the warnings that Iran would close them.

Twiglets1 · 12/04/2026 15:18

Trump said other countries would be involved in the blockade but did not specify which, adding that it would begin shortly.

Maybe but you can't go back in time only forward and the Straight of Hormuz has to be opened somehow now we are where we are.

I daresay China will be sending naval ships to escort their tankers through Trumps blockade. And Malaysia, and maybe even Japan.

Blimey
this really could escalate

Twiglets1 · 12/04/2026 15:27

According to the Telegraph, 50% of China’s seaborne oil imports pass through the strait, meaning this blockade is as big for them as it is for Iran.

Their Washington Correspondent suggests that Trump is aiming to pressure Beijing into pushing Iran to give up its nuclear programme and take a deal.

Most importantly, a blockade is a troop-free alternative to taking Kharg Island, which Trump has mulled invading since the war began.
