Conflict in the Middle East

Trump is desperate. How can he resolve the Iran shitshow?

TooBigForMyBoots · 06/04/2026 00:32

He is flailing, desperate and increasingly unhinged. Weakening the USA, alienating allies and strengthening the enemies of democracy with every step.

How can he fix this?
Can he fix it at all?

Oh dear

Can't be bothered to even read all that let alone respond

Says it all really.

MNHQ recommend walking away and not engaging

Maybe you should try that for a change?

logicisall · 12/04/2026 08:18

😂
I should paste it on a note so it's close at hand. I forgot to include it in my last post!

Or it could mean: it's silly (😂)how far this situation has gone that we have to do this.

logicisall · 12/04/2026 08:23

Back to the business of this thread.

The 'Peace Talks' have failed ended.
Conclusion. No change here. Move along!

Except US troops are now in the region, Chagos deal has fallen through, and Israel is still bombing Lebanon.

I await the next Truth from Trump, lamenting the loss of an opportunity to get a 'peace' prize or even a 'piece' prize.

To be fair the US will have made things better for multiple countries if they make the SoH accessible for them again without payment.

Yes they were accessible without payment before the war started so it’s the US mess to clean up. Trump’s hubris is grating as usual. But still - it’s good for everyone’s sake if the US are making progress in managing that situation.

Well, as you say, this situation didn't exist pre 27th February....

Anyway, talks off now, Trump has emboldened Iran, made them realise their power over the region and the world economy.

Iran, effectively, does hold all the cards, bombing Iran even more now, will not change things for the better, perhaps China will apply more pressure to the Iranians.

Experienced reporters in Lebanon saying there is increased support for Hezbollah.... hardly surprising seeing the Israelis have killed 2000 plus people, mostly innocents.

Pakistan have deployed fighter jets to send to Saudi Arabia as well as 13,000 troops.

Pakistan deployed approximately 13,000 ground troops and at least ten fighter jets to King Abdulaziz Air Base in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province on April 11, the same day its ceasefire brokerage between Washington and Tehran collapsed in Islamabad — making Pakistan simultaneously Saudi Arabia’s largest military reinforcement since 1991 and the failed neutral interlocutor that Iran had trusted enough to sit across from.

It was odd language “Iran did not accept our terms”. I wonder whether it was an actual negotiation? It’s not the language or philosophy of negotiation I’ve ever heard.

That is interesting. They sent F16's. Those are old I think. Their main force are Chinese J-10 and China/Pakistan JF-17. Suggestive that China said no, don't send ours.

Pakistan used a J10 to shoot down an Indian Mirage last year. It looks to me that China does not want it's kit on the world stage. Esp against Iran.

It was odd language “Iran did not accept our terms”. I wonder whether it was an actual negotiation? It’s not the language or philosophy of negotiation I’ve ever heard.

I think negotiation was tried seeing as the talks lasted for many hours.

The two sides didn't manage to agree a deal but I wonder if they really expected to in the first session.

Baghaei described the talks as "intensive" but it was always going to be very tough for the two sides to reach agreement seeing as they were miles apart in what they want.

The ceasefire is supposed to last 2 weeks so my hope is that they can resume talks at a later date.

Summary from Reuters:

  • Both sides had 'mood swings' during talks, Pakistani source says
  • Iran seeks Lebanon ceasefire, reparations, control of Hormuz
  • US wants Iran to commit to not developing nuclear weapons
  • Agreement on many issues, differences on Hormuz, nuclear programme, Iran media says

Alexandra2001 · 12/04/2026 09:59

So both sides miles apart...

Nuclear and Control of Hormuz are 2 huge road blocks to a 'deal.

Are new talks expected? considering Vance said full and final offer....

Which means 'Iran didn't do what we wanted!' Hardly a 'negotiation' is it!

If Iran want a Lebanon ceasefire they'll have to negotiate with Israel.

That's the talk of tough negotiation to say full and final offer..

My husband and I have used it ourselves when buying a property and we're not exactly expert negotiators, it's just a term people use 😂

I hope you made sure the road was closed and no-one had access to the property until your terms were met! 😂

If Iran want a Lebanon ceasefire they'll have to negotiate with Israel.

Israel have said they won't negotiate with Iran's proxies Hezbollah, but there are formal peace negotiations planned on Tuesday between Israel and Lebanon.

Twiglets1 · 12/04/2026 10:20

On a more positive note, Iran's foreign minister said that the two sides agreed on a number of points, and it is natural that no agreement was reached in a day.

You think that Vance and co are involved in the equivalent of buying a house???

Plus telling a seller that this is your "Full and final offer" and then making another one, is a guarantee you'll end up paying more....

Sorry but thats just ridiculous and not even funny.

Idle threats, then walk backs lead to the other side v quickly realising you re bluffing ie TACO... further push back and in this case, far more damage/loss of life.

As the USA found out when they slapped Tariffs on China, said "No Negotiation" and then went into reverse when China hit them with their Tariffs

DuncinToffee · 12/04/2026 10:31

As has been pointed out by many commentators it took Obama years to negotiate with Iran

The Good Friday Agreement also took years to negotiate.

IDontHateRainbows · 12/04/2026 10:32

Trump really needs to shit or get off the pot with the threats now, he's lost all credibility to threaten anything unless he sees something through and the Iranians know it. The whole world knows it. He's run out of bluster road.

MentorChappell · 12/04/2026 10:33

I live in America, HE CAN'T!!! Now that he has called out Candace Owens and Tucker Carlson, he is finished. They are exposing him terribly, and he will definitely be gone soon.

Of course the negotiations in Pakistan were not equivalent to buying a house, don't be ridiculous.

My point very obviously was, Vance saying "this is our final and best offer" should not be taken too literally.

This was the start of negotiations not the end.

So we shouldn't take Trump literally when he threatens genocide and now we shouldn't take Vance literally

Bit rich of you to call Alexandra ridiculous when you brought it up. I guess we should not take you literally then?

logicisall · 12/04/2026 10:43

The world, except for Starmer, has realised that saying no and walking away works when you have the cards and it's 🌮you're playing against.
Vance is probably seething that he had to be part of the fake peace talks. He's on the phone to Thiel now saying that they'll have to wait for '32.
