Conflict in the Middle East

Trump is desperate. How can he resolve the Iran shitshow?

TooBigForMyBoots · 06/04/2026 00:32

He is flailing, desperate and increasingly unhinged. Weakening the USA, alienating allies and strengthening the enemies of democracy with every step.

How can he fix this?
Can he fix it at all?

At least Vance isn’t showing signs of mental illness, imagine DT in the room.
I personally think it’s all going to come to a head with Trump’s erratic behaviour.
Even his die hard supporters suspect he’s been ran by outside agents.
Hopefully the men in the white coats remove him while the deal is worked out.

DuncinToffee · 11/04/2026 11:48

Trump is supporting Hungary's Orban who is Putin's man. And Russia is supporting Iran.

We can now take it as given that @RedTagAlan has been banned. Be warned that you now risk living in 1984 when you post on this thread.

But as mentioned previously, a new thread miraculously appeared in advance a few days ago. Alleluia! Praise be to Allah! <covers both sides meticulously>

For all that had a deletions on this thread be careful now on other threads
I noticed last night on another thread I was reading Redtag had a post deleted on that one too
That’s possibly why Theyve been suspended
( hopefully just a suspension )
ie on more than one thread for more than one reason.

🙏

DuncinToffee · 11/04/2026 12:16

Well that is debate gone then if we have to be careful what we post.

Reminder that 6 weeks ago the Strait of Hormuz was open

In October last year Trump declared war was a waste of money
Then he went to war
He’s giving his electorate mixed messages

Trumps Focus in speeches on affordability decreases while war increases

Share of time Trump spent discussing affordability and war or conflict in 2026. ( see attached from Politico )

Trump is trying to make money from War to justify it as his popularity drops

It’s all about the money.

I see that on another ME related thread, relatively newly opened by a poster on this thread, the explanation for deletions has been that while posters can report, it is up to MN to decide what to delete, thus absolving the person reporting of all responsibility.

I believe this is a case of weaponising MN procedures and guidelines to shut down disagreement - one poster has already sacked that thread rather than risk being reported.

Do we all need a disclaimer stating that a post is not intended to breach MN guidelines?

It's a tactic not even 1cm away from Trump's use of litigation to intimidate others.

There was a talking head on the BBC (?) today who said that Trump's popularity amongst MAGA voters has not moved much and that it is amongst the "undecided voters" that his ratings have fallen.

I seem to recall an interview with residents in one of the poorest and most remote areas in the US who were staunch Trump supporters. Even though they had almost no income or affordable medicare, they still believed that factories would open (they had no employment skills) and there would be jobs for all.

Experts and historians will have a field day analysing the MAGA movement.

Coming up to the mid terms Trump needs to pull in those supporters

He will need to start talking money again
Hence wanting money from the SOH
Thats what he sees as a win
nothing more

for some reason the chart I mentioned upthread didn't load
I’ll try again
will keep an eye on politico and see how that changes

I was indeed suspended. Thanks for the supportive comments. Emailed HQ, they said suspended in error.

I don't really hide the fact that I live in a web restricted country. An authoritarian state. This site is my only way "out" onto western social media where I can chat without a VPN. Every other forum is not accessible now. Even for just viewing, Politics, fishing, cycling... all gone.. I don't use a VPN these days I used to but not now. Too dangerous you see. Ok for watching cat vids on YouTube, but talk politics, and that is into jail and deport territory. So for sake of family and esp DD, no VPN. Politics being a passion for me, I have written stuff on here that would get me into trouble. And I expect MN to vanish any moment. I have no idea why it is not blocked where I am.

Self censorship is fine up to a point. But there comes a point where it becomes massively disrespectful to people who are in jail for speaking their mind. Out of my respect and admiration for them, I know I cannot be silent if I have a place to speak.

The irony of course is, that whoever reported our posts is probably "fighting" for the Iranian people who live in "tyranny". That it's "ok", for however many to die in the cause of FREEDOM. Same as Trump and Melania say. Problem is of course they are going on what their concept of FREEDOM is. They won't budge from that.

When I see the people of the Middle East bombed, and people apparently "cheering" that on, or suggesting that it is "for their own good" or saying "they will thank us for it", "they will be FREE at last", or whatever variation of that, I don't really have to wonder too hard if they would be saying the same if it was the country I live in being bombed. The school my DD goes to...

It is indeed odd that whoever done the reporting is most likely also yelling "FREE SPEECH !"

I think it goes without saying that I oppose authoritarianism. That's not a disclaimer. That is a statement of fact.

Hey ho.

@RedTagAlan welcome back good to know it was a mistake don't remember seeing anything controversial or offensive in your posts.

Martymcfly24 · 11/04/2026 14:25

Welcome back @RedTagAlan I emailed MN but because my comment wasn't deleted they said they were only responding to those whose were.

I can't imagine how hard it is to live in a state like that. I'm in Ireland and while it can be an utter shit show at times (especially at this very moment) there is freedom. I hope you stay safe and your interest in politics and world affairs is not compromised.

I was watching news programme yesterday who showed stats that did suggest there was a drop in MAGA support so hard to know really.

This site is not blocked where I am, so no hoops really. I was suspended. But HQ said in error. I suspect after a quick review. I used to help mod a forum and that was the usual. That forum was not as busy as this though, so the review was before.

Definitely a drop in supply for Israel though in America, 60% have an unfavorable view of Israel on 23rd March compared to 53% last year. 59% have no confidence in Netanyahu to do the right thing up from 52% last year.

I got a reply:

Hello and thanks for your email.

We can see that number of posts have been removed here, so we wanted to explain why.

The previous post prompted quite a bit of discussion, including criticism of the disclaimer used. That in itself is fine and robust disagreement is very much part of how Talk works.

However, the thread then moved into a pattern where multiple posters began repeating similar “disclaimers” in a way that was clearly intended to mock or target another poster, rather than engage with the topic itself. Once it becomes about piling on or indirectly taking aim at a specific user, rather than discussing the issue, it falls foul of our Talk guidelines.

We’ve removed those posts to keep the thread focused on discussion rather than on other posters.

Well that's ridiculous how about looking at why people needed to post disclaimers which was due to constant accusations that they support the Iranian regime which is a sure way to shut down debate and alienate posters. As they say if you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen.

I posted the first disclaimer because I had been so badly misrepresented in my previous post. I refuse to acknowledge those types of accusations and give them the airtime they do not deserve. O I wanted to discuss something I felt was important and interesting to me (the AI Iran videos) but was being shut down.

Boolabus · 11/04/2026 14:50

Yes the AI videos is where it started and where I had to deal with a few accusations and needed to include the disclaimer, that post did stand. I think the need to defend your position against accusations causes more damage and prevents you engaging with the topic then the disclaimer did.

I suggest we leave it here or the thread will be pulled. Maybe posters can stop accusing people of supporting the Iranian regime which will in turn mitigate the need for disclaimers.

It's fine living where I am. It's a different system sure. Day to day is perfectly normal. It's politics that are a total no no. And criticism of the Government. The web is a total pain at times. But yeah.
