UN Security Council to vote on Strait of Hormuz

The UN Security Council’s vote on a proposal to ensure the safety of ships in the Strait of Hormuz has been rescheduled from Friday to Saturday, according to media reports.

The council’s 15 members are set to vote on a resolution from Bahrain aimed at protecting commercial shipping in the critical waterway, which usually carries about one-fifth of global oil and natural gas supplies.

The Associated Press and Reuters news agencies have reported that a draft resolution includes text authorising countries “to use all defensive means necessary” to protect commercial shipping.

The proposal is considered unlikely to pass, as China, a veto-wielding permanent member of the council, has made it clear that it opposes any resolution that mentions the use of force.

I don’t follow the SM but I’m sure it’s all on there or somewhere, have a look.

Ships are moving though. This from Sky just now.

"Japanese tanker passes through Strait of Hormuz
A Japanese tanker carrying liquefied natural gas has passed through the Strait of Hormuz, according to one of its owners.
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, which joint owns the Panama-flagged ship, "SOHAR LNG", is safe, a spokesperson told Reuters.
The ship's co-owner declined to disclose when it crossed the strait and whether there were any negotiations required.
The Asahi newspaper reported that the ship was the first Japanese vessel to have exited the Strait of Hormuz since the onset of the Iran war. "

So a French container ship. And now a Japanese tanker. Both companies decline to comment.

Macron was just on a three day visit to Japan. And Macron has spoken out against Trump in the last couple of days. I can see a connection there. Individual countries/ companies do appear to be able to make a deal.

You don't need to follow his TS account, his posts are all reported in MSM and repeated by his government officials.

Ik they have I just said the French vessel has. Which is why I said it’s more relevant now than the other stuff you put up.

Some will pay if they have to, the UK made a statement they would not.

Iran allows French ship through Strait of Hormuz

Iran has allowed a French ship through the Strait of Hormuz a day after Emmanuel Macron criticised Donald Trump.

The Kribi, a Malta-flagged ship owned by French logistics giant CMA CGM, is the first Western vessel to exit the Gulf since the war with Iran began.

Ships from countries like China, Pakistan and the Philippines have safely passed through the strait in recent days.

Mr Macron, the French president, hit out at Mr Trump on Thursday, questioning his war goals and accusing the president of contradicting himself.

He also said reopening the strait using military force was “unrealistic”.

Iran’s military said the strait would remain closed to the US and Israel in the “long term”.

But the regime is believed to be operating a “toll booth” where vessels are charged up to $2m (£1.5m) to cross the strait, through which 20 per cent of the world’s oil normally transits.

Ship tracking data showed the French-owned vessel navigating the strait close to Iran’s coastline. It is unclear if the Kribi paid a fee.

The UK said on Thursday that it would “comprehensively reject” any attempt by Iran to charge ships fees for transiting through the water corridor.

I saw your post and thought..... nah that's fake. Then it appeared on the Sky news feed.

So now he is just openly talking of theft. Or is he telling Iran they can make a fortune ? But it can't mean that because they would need not take the oil. So who is taking the oil ?

And he is making out that the Gulf is a "gusher", implying a "new find. But up till a few weeks ago it was open.

He baffles me.

China say the same about all wars. We urge cease fire and talks. They say that all the time nearly. Maybe not Ukraine ?

Anyway, I would not say they are on their high horse. They have consistently supported Iran.

Is he talking theft here ? And who is we that will do this theft ?

What do you mean the insurance stuff or the other one?

Who knows, it’s also why I don’t pay much attention to whatever is put out. It changes daily.

I mean Trumps social media post:

“With a little more time, we can easily OPEN THE HORMUZ STRAIT, TAKE THE OIL, & MAKE A FORTUNE,”

That is what Trump wrote and posted. Who do you think "we" is ? And does he mean steal ?

As a matter of interest, if you don't pay much attention to what is put out, where do you get your info from? You appear to know a lot about what is going on.

The Insurance stuff never happened. Trump said it would then nothing.

I don’t do X or TS, tweets are not what I rely on. I listen to the radio a lot which is great for analysis and have a news app. I’m not really the one to engage in screen shots of tweets.

Re that line people will be as sure as you are on what it means, which is ‘who knows’.

Cool. I don't use social media. I get news from Sky and CNN mainly. I just wondered.

I do think what Trump posts is very important though. He did start this war after all, and he is the main player in it. And as you do appear to support him in it, I thought you might know what his words mean.

A Japanese tanker now too. I suspect it's not a coincidence that Macron has just been in Japan for 3 day, and is now in South Korea.

So if a South Korean ship gets through, I think it would be a fair conclusion that Macron has some sort of diplomatic channel open ?
