Iran is firing missiles into heavily populated Israeli towns and have abandoned the pretence of targeting anything military.....this is just pure terrorism and does make you think what would happen if Iran did manage to develop a nuclear weapon.

Just hoping more of the missile launch sites can be taken out and this terrorist regime falls.

Who are the 'filthy' posters this turn of phrase refers to?

It's a filthy corner of MN not a reference to individual posters.

Why is it 'filthy'?

RedTagAlan · 01/04/2026 15:23

UNCLOS is not that simple. Nobody is exempt. It's international law. It's a sort of reciprocal thing. The only way to be punished really is to not be allowed freedom of navigation in other nations waters. That will have limited effect on Iran cos Trump sunk their ships.

When I said exempt I meant the countries Iran were exempting, China etc

So unless we agree with US and Israeli policies we are filthy?

You've got the wrong end of the stick, not for the first time.

Because we argue all day is how I took it.

Aren't you aware that other MN users on other sections of the site consider Conflict in the Middle East as a toxic board. Most people stay away from it even if they have strong opinions on the Iran war say, which they express on other boards such as AIBU.

TopPocketFind · 01/04/2026 15:32

Maybe @Twiglets1 and @dairydebris care to explain the 'filthy corner' comment to avoid 'getting the wrong side of the stick'

Do you think the whole White House communications centre also has dementia given what the release they posted on March 1st which confirmed a war goal as being to degrade its proxy terror networks

There is no-one in the Whitehouse standing up to Trump. Whitehouse communications will diligently parrot his latest whim, and then pretend it never happened the next day - have you not watched any of Karoline Leavitt's pressers? She will insist that up is down and left is right if Trump currently believes that, and anyone who disagrees is 'fake news'. She, and the rest of the staffers know exactly what happens to anyone who dares to question him.

Notonthestairs · 01/04/2026 15:35

It wasn’t a throwaway comment. You saw fit to highlight it.

Alexandra2001 · 01/04/2026 14:47

Well, tbh a: you ve moved the goal posts from Trump to the WH and b: yes when i listen to Karoline Leavitt, i do think she is either crazy or has ambitions as a stand up comedian or is planning to win an Oscar.

btw How is the degrading of Iran's proxy networks going? is Hormuz now open or being blocked due to the actions of Iran and its proxies....

Hezbollah is now, as we speak, gaining support from local Lebanese, with the aim of driving back the IDF, so look out for a Taliban style war and 1000s killed.

Even Sky news has said we should take Trumps announcement on NATO with a "pinch of salt" as he'll change his view over night, the US will also lose access to all of its European bases... nose and face spring to mind.

Do you think his latest announcements are rational?

Edited

Do you have evidence that Hezbollah is gaining support from local Lebanese in the conflict with Israel because the evidence I have shows that the local Lebanese blame Hezbollah for starting an unnecessary war with Israel.

Still I understand that given a choice between condemning Israel or condemning Hezbollah (or Hamas as well) for some "unknown" reason the blame, especially from the left, always falls on Israel.

You still haven't explained why discussing an illegal war is filthy after praising @dairydebris for their turn of phrase

Very aware but I don't think it's for the reasons you think it is.

Seriously the whole concept of legal and illegal wars goes out of the window when your adversary wages conflict illegally whether that be in military support for Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis or being behind 20 attempted terrorist attacks against the UK.

If you try and fight an adversary following "international rules"
whilst they don't then you will lose, it's that simple.

Notonthestairs · 01/04/2026 15:50

I think that’s just a deflection from the use of the word filthy.

Boolabus · 01/04/2026 15:51

dairydebris · 01/04/2026 15:02

Of course its a double standard. International politics is full of double standards.

However, apart from little pockets of extremity here and there, and in this filthy little corner of mumsnet, most people accept that Israel isn't a danger to anyone unless that party first attacks them. And contrary to that, most people accept that Iran is indeed a danger internationally, because of the desire to expand it's idealogy into places where it feels it can by violent means, and because of its oft repeated desire to destroy Israel and attack Jewish people and other groups outside it's borders.

I haven't ever even seen a thread on here about concern about Israels nuclear status. People are only saying now it's unfair in relation to 'not allowing' Iran to get one.

I can feel the outrage coming at me for pointing out these obvious to most facts and I won't be coming back to respond. I already know how many of you feel about Israel, and someone reminded me yesterday that they feel Israel is the bigger threat. I already know. I strongly disagree.

Double standards exist for many, many reasons. The world isn't run on morals or fairness and agape, its run on the self interest of nations and powerful individuals.

most people accept that Israel isn't a danger to anyone unless that party first attacks them
Don't accept that view at all. The majority of rhetoric everywhere now - online, opinion pieces, journalists etc suggest the complete opposite.

and in this filthy little corner of mumsnet
Generally understood to mean nasty or vile so who or what are you referring to here.

Jeez - I'm jealous- if you think MN is the most toxic spaces you've been on then you must be in a very sheltered sunshine and lollipops existence.

I didn't say discussing "an lllegal war" is filthy - no one did.

That the CITME board has a certain reputation with other MN users who tend to avoid it is not something I can fully explain. But of course we do argue a lot and personal attacks & accusations get made on a daily basis.
