Trump throwing a lot of people under the bus because of stock markets?

When you start a war you finish it in my opinion. There has been no other war that has been stopped because of a slide on the Dow Jones or an oil price spike. For Trump to now prematurely call an end to the war simply because of economics will simply mean IIrans drone terrorism has worked.

The people of Iran will be left with a job half done without the space needed for an uprising.

A new leader with good reason to ideological hate Israel and the US will realise the only method of future deterrence of Iran is through acquiring a nuclear weapon as their conventional weapons were obliterated. Iran will now do everything possible to acquire such a weapon.

This is a time for resolve Mr. President. There is still a chance to destroy this regime maybe with limited target ground troop assaults. The world actually will be safer if you continue.

He doesn't even know why he attacked Iran. His answer changes every hour. He also said he's now continuing to bomb "just for fun". You want him to continue because he's not had enough fun yet?

BelleHathor · 21/03/2026 10:52

The UK is now in the same place as the GCC countries with American bases that Iran responded against.

For Iran the UK is facilitating aggression against Iran by allowing the use of it's bases, therefore the UK is now a legitimate target.

No amount of semantics of "Defensive " vs "Offensive" or we didn't know what America would target by Starmer will change this. I imagine there are lot of people within our intelligence apparatus tearing their hair out right now.

I didn't say they had friends before, I said retaliating with more strikes on their neighbours just creates more enemies that Iran didn't have before the war.

'Punish Iran': Saudi Arabia and UAE inch closer to supporting US-Israeli war
The kingdom has given the US wider access to new bases, but experts say joining offensive operations opens 'can of worms'

“There is a divide emerging in the Gulf,” Bernard Haykel, a professor of Near Eastern studies at Princeton University, who speaks with the Saudi Arabian crown prince, told MEE.

“Saudi Arabia and the UAE were neutral before this war. But as they have been attacked, they have come to the realisation that they cannot live with this hardline Iranian regime next door, which can, at a moment’s notice, extort the region by closing the Strait of Hormuz,” he added.

Yup. And if the Saudis, another authoritarian state, near theocratic, attack Iran, Iran will hit the oil. It's a Mexican standoff. Near MAD really.

Upper hand, and over a barrel come to mind.

And lets not forget one friend Iran had, and still has. Putin, just across the Caspian. Gulf oil being cut off certainly suits him. In fact, he is even selling his oil again. I don't think he would mind Saudi oil being cut.

It's easy enough for you to google the members of NATO.

They are the "allies" that Trump is referring to to answer the question posed which was: Who are America's allies, in this?

There was a poster that mentioned 50 members of NATO being defeated in Afghanistan or Iraq. NATO website said there were 32 members so I found that poster's assertions a little dubious.

I appreciate your efforts to inform with links @Twiglets1 .

Notonthestairs · 21/03/2026 11:01

NATO is a defensive alliance.
Which presumably Trump forgot when he was threatening Greenland and Denmark.

KeepPumping · 21/03/2026 11:31

Alexandra2001 · 21/03/2026 06:44

The US has no NATO allies, Trump has blown all that away.

He went into this war without consultation, with no fore warning, no plan, no idea of the consequences and should he be stupid enough to attack Iran's oil facilities, then Iran will attack its neighbours oil/gas ones too.

£2 a litre petrol? try £5 or £6 and rationing.... our economies will grind to a halt..... with a 1930s style depression.

They are already attacking these facilities, and will continue to do so as the hornet"s nest has now been well and truly stirred.

Alexandra2001 · 21/03/2026 11:41

Twiglets1 · 21/03/2026 10:07

But retaliating with more strikes on their neighbours just creates more enemies that Iran didn't have before the war.

It comes across like they have lost the plot, like if the UK started attacking their neighbours all across Europe and blowing things up.

That may be true but listen to Iranian words and then their actions?

They blew up part of a Qatar gas field in retaliation to a joint Israeli/USA strike on one their facilities.

Anyway, what happened to your "Thank Goodness" ? 😄

MushMonster · 21/03/2026 11:56

Even a five year old could predict that Iran would bomb anything and everything at their reach if in a war. And close the strait of Hormuz. Iran is not an ally of any of its neighbours.

Yes to this. @Twiglets1is right about Iran’s neighbours changing views due to strikes on them.

Is that not a bit like saying South Korea will stop talking to North Korea ? It's really not far off.

I did see last week that the UAE deported 2k Iranian students.

BelleHathor · 21/03/2026 12:10

Well Iran did warn them repeatedly, over and over again. The idiots just did not take Iran at it's word.

Here is the Iranian UN site which has dozens of letters to the Security Council, detailing the threats from Trump et al.

The most relevant letter is from the 19th February 2026:

"in the event that it is subjected to military aggression, Iran will respond decisively and proportionately in the exercise of it's inherent right of self-defence under Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations. In such circumstances, all bases, facilities, and assets of the hostile force in the region would constitute legitimate targets"

I don't know, Iran has said IF...... both sides need to talk & stop chucking bombs at each other, there is no other way unless we want a worldwide depression....

The murder of innocent people in Lebanon needs to stop too, Israel is again committing war crimes.

It won"t involve what Trump wants, I think we can be pretty sure of that?

MushMonster · 21/03/2026 14:08

It will be quite a difficult one to get. I can imagine Iran will ask for reparations too.
And the bombing them months or years down the line would have to be out of the question. And will US and Netanyahu agree any of that? And can the world feel any safer with the "new" Iran?
This war has fully opened Pandora's box. So it is going to be an all mighty job to close it.

We might just have to get used to higher oil prices and debt costs, eventually you get demand destruction and things will settle down?

Do you have a source for this? UAE deporting Iranian students - I don’t recognise the sources I can see on Google saying this has happened/is happening. I’m really struggling to see how they would remove them right now.

It was on one of the news feeds. Sky or CNN.

Ahh, it was 2500 expelled. Not deported sorry.

ColdOut2025 · 21/03/2026 15:28

I know its just his M.O.,but I've felt really confused and unsettled today by his Winding down/ your order from Marine Corp is on the way: it feels like he could really strop off in a huff tomorrow, or we could keep seeing this for six months with an invasion. How does he live in his head?

MushMonster · 21/03/2026 15:50

Exactly! He is playing the making other leaders and the enemy nervous. Plus us, the civilians. Making himself the one in control. A power play. He is emphasizing that he is the one who decides. Possibly as retaliation to Netanyahu doing his own thing too. That makes Trump look weak and Trump's ego cannot cope with that.

So, we have to take control. Control of our nerves. Control of our reactions and stick two fingers up.
Other leaders will have to go around Trump to settle deals or sort whatever they can to navigate the financial crisis and supply issues and we, the civilians, have to bear the increased prices. Bless those who get bombs above their heads. And shortages. The world is not forgetting this one any time sooner.
And Trump knows he is in the shit. With MAGA and the wolrd. Nobody supports someone who translates into higher and higher bills.

And Iran was also warned repeatedly what would happen if they kept on trying to develop a nuclear weapon or didn't allow full transparency with what they were up to ... are they idiots too?

I feel like to some people it's only ever the US or Israel that are idiots never Iran or their proxies. Strange that because the actions of Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah etc do not appear to have led to good outcomes.

Always the focus on Israel. What about Iran?

UN chief suggests both sides may be committing war crimes in US-Israel conflict with Iran

Speaking exclusively to POLITICO on a visit to Brussels before Thursday's European Council summit, Guterres said: “If there are attacks either on Iran or from Iran on energy infrastructure, I think that there are reasonable grounds to think that they might constitute a war crime.”

Israel attacked Iran's South Pars natural gas field on Wednesday, then Tehran launched a retaliatory strike on a major energy complex in Qatar. Beyond that, Guterres said the growing civilian casualties left both sides in the conflict open to possible war crimes charges.
