Difficult to stop it when profit driven media prioritises misinformation over facts and restraint.

Thoughts and prayers to those killed and injured in Australia.

Absolutely awful. Though I think you've put this in the wrong section as Australia is most definitely not in the Middle East.

Why is this thread in citme?

Fernsrus · 14/12/2025 15:16

I don’t know, but perhaps it is related to what’s happening in the Middle East? Awful that people kill each other anywhere.

Fernsrus · 14/12/2025 15:16

(And wrong)

EmeraldShamrock000 · 14/12/2025 15:20

It's horrendous news, terrifying for the Jewish community. Awful scenes on the news.
Let's acknowledge the tragedy without whataboutary.

Ihatetomatoes · 14/12/2025 16:57

It's horrendous. Thoughts with the victims and families. Evil men, killing Jewish people because they are Jewish. I agree the misinformation spread online increases hatred. More action should be taken against anti semitism.

Seriously, is that all you have to say. Shame on you.

Livelovebehappy · 14/12/2025 17:41

Another terrorist attack on innocent people by Islamic extremists. Scourge of society, who need to be eradicated, and quickly. My thoughts go out to the innocent people murdered in Australia. Although I’m waiting for some screwed up thinking person to make excuses for it….

SameOldHill · 14/12/2025 23:38

What sad days we live in. There are no words really. No one should be targeted for their religion.

Just awful.

Why is this thread in citme?

Because the conflict in the Middle East is being used by extremists and terrorists to fuel antisemitic hatred and violence across the world.

mids2019 · 15/12/2025 04:57

The horrendous attacks on Australia are another symptom of the upsurge of vilification of Israel and by extension Jews since the war in Gaza started. I think it takes a lot given the ethnicities of the protagonists and victims to argue there is absolutely no connection and the Isralei government has warned for some time that the West is almost allowing a permissive environment for promoting such heinous acts. It's a smaller but no less harrowing version of October 7th.

Twiglets1 · 15/12/2025 06:02

It’s awful.

Should be mentioned in the interests of fairness that the hero who tackled one of the gunmen & potentially saved lives is also Muslim.

As always it’s extremists that cause problems as they are filled with hate.

At least the world has reacted with shock & condemnation. It was getting to the point where I was starting to wonder if they would or somehow blame the attack on Israel.

mids2019 · 15/12/2025 06:12

I think harsher fun law's helps but ultimately this is about anti semitism and we can't shy away from the fact in recent terror atrocities it is Jews that have been targeted.

Why is this thread in citme?

It was an anti semitic terrorist attack on Jewish people.

There has been a rise in anti semitic attacks in Australia & elsewhere since 7/10/23.

That is why this event is relevant to conflict in the Middle East.

Have the police in Australia come out and said that this was the motive?

I’m in Australia and it’s a bit odd. The police are saying no motive established at this stage, but the government and police have also classed it as an act of terrorism and antisemitic and put that out in press releases. So that does not seem to make sense??? I would have thought the ‘non-established motive’ was the antisemitism.

whatcanthematterbe81 · 15/12/2025 06:30

My kids will never step foot in a synagogue. Nor will my husband and I. That’s what they want but Im not putting my family in danger when so many hate us.

Bondi Beach gunman ‘pledged allegiance to Islamic State’

Australia’s spy agency had reportedly investigated Bondi Beach gunman Naveed Akram over his ties to Islamic State.

Naveed Akram, 24, and his father Sajid Akram, 50, have been named as the terror suspects responsible for the attack on Jewish families who were celebrating Hanukkah in Sydney on Sunday evening local time.

Naveed Akram, a recently unemployed bricklayer, had been added to a watchlist in 2019 and was believed to have pledged allegiance to the IS terrorist group, the Australian Broadcast Corporation reported.

ASIO, the Australian spy agency, and local police confirmed he was “known” to them but they did not consider him an “immediate” threat.

His father, a small business owner, was licensed to own six guns.

On Sunday, the pair drove to Australia’s most famous beach armed with long arm rifles and homemade bombs before opening fire on hundreds of people who were gathered for ‘Chanukah by the Sea’.

Police recovered a black and white IS flag in a car linked to the men as they searched the vehicle for explosives.

Sixteen people were killed, including the shooter, and 42 people were hospitalised in what is one of the nation’s worst massacres. The youngest victim, Matilda, was just 10 years old.

Sajid Akram died in a shootout with police after he fired on the crowd of beachgoers for over 10 minutes. His son remains in hospital under police guard.

Okay, so ISIS terrorism and not necessarily connected to Gaza?

Twiglets1 · 15/12/2025 06:44

From The Telegraph:

King Charles III has said he and Queen Camilla are “appalled and saddened by the most dreadful anti-semitic terrorist attack on Jewish people” at Bondi Beach.

The Sydney terror attack may have been carried out by an Iranian-backed foreign terror cell, Israeli authorities believe.

Officials cited Iran as a primary suspect and said possible links to groups including Hezbollah, Hamas and Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba were also being investigated, according to Israeli media reports.

Australian officials have not publicly confirmed any foreign involvement in the atrocity.

Intelligence sources said the attack on the Bondi Beach celebration appeared to be sophisticated and well-planned, and carried the hallmarks of Unit 910, Hezbollah’s feared external operations arm.

I’m asking whether the war in Gaza has been cited as the motive.

The gunman still alive has not yet explained what exactly motivated him and his father to open fire on Jewish families who were celebrating Hanukkah.

The point being made across the media is that there has been a rise in anti semitic attacks since 7/10/23 and this is another anti semitic attack.

The conflict in the Middle East (not just Gaza) is having many repercussions for Western countries these days and anti semitic attacks are not acceptable to these countries.
