Except no one said this is why you shouldn't criticise Israel.

People can criticise the Israel government and IDF all they want, verbally.

They shouldn't resort to anti semitic attacks which is the subject of this thread.

It's not my thread and your personal attacks are making you look bad not me or the OP.

It was an anti semitic terrorist attack on Jewish people.

There has been a rise in anti semitic attacks in Australia & elsewhere since 7/10/23.

That is why this event is relevant to conflict in the Middle East.

The poster knows exactly why it is here. The fact they have nothing decent to say, but jyst complain the thread is here, speaks volumes.

Twiglets1 · 15/12/2025 06:02

It’s awful.

Should be mentioned in the interests of fairness that the hero who tackled one of the gunmen & potentially saved lives is also Muslim.

As always it’s extremists that cause problems as they are filled with hate.

At least the world has reacted with shock & condemnation. It was getting to the point where I was starting to wonder if they would or somehow blame the attack on Israel.

Yes, he was a very courageous man. I hope he is ok.

I’ve already said it’s an awful tragedy. But there is absolutely no need to have a thread on this board.

Another terrorist attack on innocent people by Islamic extremists. Scourge of society, who need to be eradicated, and quickly. My thoughts go out to the innocent people murdered in Australia. Although I’m waiting for some screwed up thinking person to make excuses for it….

He’s a terrorist. Full stop. I don’t think his religion should matter. The wonderful brave man who rushed at one of the armed men (sustaining two bullet injuries himself) disarming him and thus preventing unknown further casualties has a Muslim sounding name.

Yes the family of Ahmed al Ahmed have said that he is recovering in hospital after undergoing surgery for bullet wounds to his arm and hand.

His cousin Mustafa told 7News Australia that doctors had informed the family that Ahmed was stable following surgery. Mustafa echoed what a lot of us are thinking when he said, “He is a hero, he is a hundred percent hero.”

Mr Ahmed’s father said: “I saw him last night and he was in good spirits. He said he thanks God that he was able to do this, to help innocent people and to save people from these monsters, these killers.”

He was a Muslim and there are already people on social media saying he should be arrested as an accessory to the attack because he didn’t know what to do with the gun and didn’t shoot the man dead.

louderthan · 15/12/2025 07:18

The silence from the people usually sharing pro-Palestine stuff all over my social media is DEAFENING.

You can believe that this is a tragedy and also believe that Israel’s actions are wrong. HTH.

Maybe you're watching too much social media which is making you angry.

Mainstream media is saying nothing of the sort and he is being described as the hero he is.

Oh, so now that the mainstream media is saying what you want it to, you’ll trust it?

Linking Jews in Australia with events in Gaza IS antisemitism.

That’s exactly what the posters are doing by posting this in the CITME board and trying to imply that it’s because of the war in Gaza when that’s not been confirmed.

ArtichokesBloom · 15/12/2025 07:28

Anti semitic acts have no place in society. I presume the OP is linking the terrorism to the Gaza situation rather than isolated act.
The United nations are reporting 7400 Palestinian fatalities (164,000 injured)and 378 Israeli fatalities (6677 injured) in "context of occupation and conflict" near Gaza. Whatever the terrorist thought about that, they were no better by taking more life. All loss of life is tragic.
I know peaceful and kind Muslims, Jews, Christians....but I also know that people professing to be part of those religions have all acted as terrorists and caused multiple death in wars. We need to stop fighting each other and sometimes that starts with your keyboard. There are no winners when we start to view people as a group rather than individuals.

I always get my information from mainstream media as people who regularly post on this board know.

Mainly I get my information from the BBC, Telegraph and Times of Israel but I also read the Guardian to get a different perspective, or Al Jazeera.

I don't get my information from social media and believe it to be highly untrustworthy. An example being what you posted above about people on social media criticising Mr Ahmed al Ahmed.

The rise in antisemitic attacks around the world since the war in Gaza started is fact not opinion.

The extremist attackers in Australia will have been influenced by the rise in anti Jewish sentiment since 7/10/23 even if the their motivation was not simply or only the war in Gaza.

Do you have any source for this? Or are you trying to imply that Australian Jews are responsible for what’s happening in Israel?

Itsmetheflamingo · 15/12/2025 07:41

I think it’s misguided to say you can criticise Israel and expect that not to have any impact on the rise in antisemitism.

Short term, you’re right. Long term you’re raising a generation of kids who think the Jewish homeland is evil, and haven’t been well taught about the holocaust.
You can already see many young people feel no care for Jewish people. What happens in 30 years?

the emboldened anti semitism is very worrying

Yes. There have been many marches and campaigns at which people have held signs and chanted ‘globalise the intifada’

This is what globalising the intifada looks like.

The fact that Jews in Australia have nothing to do with the government of Israel is the point!

Shooting Jews on a beach in Australia is globalising the intifada.

It would be nice if those who have been cavalier and intemperate in their language, who have let their justifiable compassion for those suffering in Gaza blind them to the realities of Islamism
and who haven’t bothered to learn a jot about the insidious evil that is antisemitism, took a moment to stop and reflect instead of jumping on a thread to be defensive of their cause.

It is painfully clear why this this thread has been posted on CITME.

Criticism of Israel ≠ criticism of Judaism. You seem to think they’re the same? Essentially you’re trying your argue that Israel should be given absolute impunity to do whatever they like in the Middle East, because if people criticise them it means that anti semitism will rise? This is exactly the point I made earlier - people will exploit a tragedy to try and deflect from the very valid criticisms people have against Israel.
