But why is Gaza 'in everyone's mind', why aren't the Christians in everyone's minds?

Why is Gaza elevated as a concern above all others? It's the inconsistency that grates.

Media, how often does Sky BBC, printed papers talk about China etc? as pp pointed out, very infrequent.

They are no different from us, they use all the Chinese tech and feel embarrassed about it too, so focus on other stuff.

How many threads about China? Yazidi women? Myanmar? Iran? how about none?

When we get large scale ongoing protests about what's happening in Nigeria, Sudan etc, then I'll believe the pro Palestine lobby are acting in good faith.

By elevating Gaza as a concern above all others, the protesters are creating a climate of hostility towards Jewish people and that has consequences as the latest terror plot shows.

Yep its very wrong isn't it.

Gaza i suppose is in everyone's mind, what happens in China, as we drive to work in our Chinese EV's and post on threads such as this on our Chinese made phones and laptops, is not.

Its convenient to push it to one side, as it would expose our own hypocrisy.

Its convenient to push it to one side, as it would expose our own hypocrisy.

I'm not sure what you mean by this?

I don't feel hypocritical; the world is fucked in the sense that there is nothing you can do (and unless we go back to the Stone Age probably never has been) that does not make us complicit in some way with terrible shit... from the investment banker snorting a line of coke to the weekend shopper snapping up a bargain from Primark.

That's the way things work. Call me cynical, but in my view the closest thing to hypocrisy is those who think they can somehow magically soar above it all by making "conscious choices."

Have I got the wrong end of the stick?

Its quite obvious, we all focus on some things but not others because it suits.

Gaza protestors go on about Israel because Israel doesn't produce the things we/they all need, so China gets pushed to one side.

Look at what the US is doing murdering people in boats, mass deportations, all illegal even in the US... huge military build up in the Caribbean for regime change.... notice anyone protesting about it? any threads on MN ? Starmer Badenoch Farage calling it all out?

No, even your post tries to justify it.

Just to bring it back to the point of the thread, the topic is not China's human rights record or whether we are hypocritical for buying Chinese e-vehicles.

The thread is about the mass murder of Jews in one of the most safe, non secular, egalitarian countries in the world whose leadership for the past 2 years has tolerated some ignorant and some very knowing "protestors" using threatening language about "Zionists" (euphemism for Jews) and actual violence targeted at Jews (firebombing of a Jewish child care centre and a synagogue) and the vilification (way beyond political critique) of the world's only Jewish nation, because we have a tradition of peaceful protest and activism.

There's a direct line from the pieces of shit chanting "Burn the Jews" (or was it Fuck the Jews? Or Where's the Jews? They're all threatening and not "legitimate criticism of Israel) on 8 October to last week's shootings. and Australians know it. We don't want this shit here.

Agree. Don't want it in the UK either.

Twiglets1 · 24/12/2025 05:24

Absolutely do not want it in the UK & horrified to hear of it reaching Australia which I have visited before and found to be a friendly, tolerant sort of place.

We dont want this shit here. Standing with Jewish people around the world.

5MinuteArgument · 24/12/2025 09:38

The latest terror plot, thankfully foiled by MI5, involved members of ISIS living in the UK. They modelled their attack on Paris 2015 where 10 mainly French and Belgian ISIS members killed 130 people in the Bataclan, Stade de France and on cafe terraces, using suicide bombs and guns.

These 2 in the UK planned to kill Jews in the Manchester Jewish community but they said if they killed Christians too that would be a 'bonus'.

Teddleshon1 · 24/12/2025 10:16

@5MinuteArgument I wish people would understand that there is a strong anti western element within the anti Israel fomentors. They hate Jews and they hate us too.

Yes, it goes back to the simplistic thinking of the identarian left which sees The Jews and The West as the enemy.

I used to be involved in anti war protests and I remember people then talking about 'fascist Jews'. That's the mindset of many (not all) of these protesters.

& the Identarian Right? (which is the original) no issues with them?

Far right nationalism has done the Jews no favours whatsoever.

Nobody said there was no problem with the Far Right. I think we all aware of the centrality of antisemitism in nazism, fascism and more recent far right politics. The far left has argably bee much more problematic in recent years because the self identification with antiracism has made it more difficult to identify, explain and counter. People are radicalised through far left/anticolonial politics in a different way and its arguably where the new antisemism has come from, or at least where islamist fascism is indulged.

True but the anti semitism this time round is most definitely with the left. You only have to read the cess pit that is the Guardian to know that.

Jews have a hell of a lot more to fear from Zack Polanski’s Green Party and Your Party that Reform.

ISIS is considered a Far Right organisation.

ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) is generally considered a far-right organization based on its ideology. While the terms "left" and "right" originated in Western political contexts and don't map perfectly to all ideologies, analysis of ISIS's core beliefs aligns it closely with far-right characteristics

The far left is not particularly high up the risk of threats the UK faces according to Mi5, the far right is, rightly so, they murdered a centre left leaning MP - Jo Cox.

@Teddleshon1 Considering who Reform have attracted into its midst and Farage's beliefs as a young man, i think we all have something to fear from Reform.
I don't know enough about the Greens to comment.

Anyway, i have prep to do.... You all have a great Xmas!

I don't think of ISIS as far right as its ideological roots are not western but either way, I think we all know Islamism is the single biggest threat to Jews. Its the left in the diaspora that indulges Islamist fascism, not so much the right. You'll get no argument from me on the dangers of the far right. The blind spot for left antisemitism is a huge problem though because people refuse to see it. Noones going to argue a neonazi isnt an antisemite. Lots of people will tell you lovely Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana aren't.

Teddleshon1 · 24/12/2025 16:58

No it’s not. It’s a religious fundamentalist group but it has much in common with the far right.

mids2019 · 25/12/2025 09:30

thanks to our security forces we prevented a massacre of Jews in the UK.

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/dec/23/two-men-found-guilty-manchester-plot-kill-many-jewish-people-as-they-could

The threat to Jews world wide is clear and present and we need to address this as it is only a matter of time before another attempt and we should all be vigilant. The results of the 'Palestine cause' can now be seen as people become radiclaised .

We need to be honest about the connection between global pro Palestinian protest and the rise of radicalized Islam and extreme anti semitism. We can combat the anti semitism partially by policing protest more rigorously and educating protestors about who they in reality stand with.
