Very disturbing

"BODIES AND BLOOD Piles of bodies and rivers of blood can be seen from space after thousands massacred in brutal Sudan killings
Experts say over 2,000 civilians were killed during the Rapid Support Forces’ seizure of El Fasher"

The maternity hospital is in the daily mail, photographs are blurred but it doesn't need much imagination to work them out.
Atrocious. Sadly the majority of comments are deflecting from the situation using it to highlight Israel/gaza. Where is the compassion.
What can we do as individuals to help the people from being slaughtered.

No she didn’t. If you want to discuss why some atrocities get more attention than others, then start a thread on it and invite intellectual dialogue. Don’t use one cause to undermine another.

The media is highlighting the atrocities, in particular the rape and murder of women and children and the deliberate starvation. As pp have said, it is an entirely manufactured famine. The most horrific crimes perpetrated in the name of religion. It is the same the world over. Yet some atrocities seem to merit more outrage than others.
However, it has been decreed that I am only trying to derail the thread so I will leave it now. I worked with organisations supporting Sudanese refugees decades ago. The brutality is never ending.

What on earth are you babbling on about? What religion ? After several people Have gone through the effort to post lots of sources on this thread to educate what’s happening this is your response? I’m even more convinced you’re not here to add meaningful
dialogue to the issue because you clearly haven’t bothered to understand what’s happening in Sudan.

War, destruction, deaths in Africa have never been a media priority.
Rwanda's genocide was rarely mentioned in the media.
It's a lot more likely to be racism rather than "no jews, no news".

Its both and no jews, no news is racism. That's the whole point.

SharonEllis · 31/10/2025 06:45

Ihatetomatoes · 30/10/2025 09:49

I posted it here because Sudan is now considered part of the Middle East.

The Middle East and North Africa (MENA), also referred to as West Asia and North Africa (WANA) or South West Asia and North Africa (SWANA), is a geographic region which comprises the Middle East (also called West Asia) and North Africa together.

Therefore, I posted here. Also, I noted many on the main boards chose MN for light relief and complain when stories such of this are posted on main boards and moved.

I could start a new one there to see, but leave this here for the people who are interested since its an ongoing conflict in the middle east.

Of course its relevant as MENA is a meaningful designation, and UAE is a main driver of the conflict.

It is really not. Israel supporters cannot help themselves, putting their tuppence in.

Now twisting words.
Do as you please, you'll twist the narrative to suit your agenda.
Where was your compassion for the people in Sudan first and foremost? Hmm.

You don't know anything about me! I actually have a longstanding interest in Sudan with personal ties going back a long way and have worked with Sudanese refugees long before this particular iteration of tbe tragedy of Sudan. Im very secure in knowing my concern for Sudan predates this week, unlike some.

Me too.
Comparison is the thief of joy, or a deflection from tragedy.

Israel supporters & pro Pals both put their point of view across freely on MN & elsewhere. No need to imply even that is problematic from the Israel supporters.

Lots of people in the CITME threads have mentioned Sudan, Myanamar, and Sudan as "genocides" but were told to STFU.

It seems you want it both ways.

Take your fights about other parts of the world to the other threads, just as a sign of respect to the Sudanese, please.

Sudan is to my mind one of the most horrific yet overlooked conflicts in the world right now.

The scale and manner of the atrocities on innocent civilians are unparalleled to any other conflict whether that be Ukraine, Gaza or wherever.

In addition at a time when recompense, apologies and reparations for historic slavery makes the press, social media and trending cause, the fact that there is actually real life slavery still taking place right now in Sudan and being overlooked is unforgivable.

What can Governments and ordinary citizens in the West do about it? Well for a start they could protest outside the UAE embassy (as the main backers of this conflict), they can write threads such as this one on MN publicising this conflict, they could try and make it socially unacceptable to holiday in Dubai. This would be a start.

MushMonster · 31/10/2025 13:11

I have seen it named as the worst humanitarian crisis of all times, months and months back.
Many charities are trying to supply what they can get there. Unicef has been the one I chose.

MrsTerryPratchett · 31/10/2025 13:32

try and make it socially unacceptable to holiday in Dubai.

Very happy to keep going on about that. Is there a very easy article about their involvement anyone has seen that we can post on 'isn't Dubai great' threads?

Definitely ... I think it is socially unacceptable to holiday in Dubai for multiple reasons, (a visible one being the way they treat immigrant labourers), and it's shocking to me how many people turn a blind eye to things like that.

Dubai: the dark truth — what lies beneath the wealth and glamour?

Thousands of Londoners flock to the Middle East city each year — but behind the façade is a brutally repressive regime where human rights are non-existent

From what I understand there have been some protests in London this week as well as last that have explicitly called out the UAE. I'm currently in the ME (no, not Dubai - hate the place with a burning passion for unrelated reasons) but the mobilisation calls have at least spread far enough to reach several of the group chats I'm in.

Please also consider writing to your MP about arms deals if this is a concern to you. I've emailed mine from here.

From Al Jazeera:

The RSF (Rapid Support Forces) which has been fighting Sudan’s military for control of the country, killed at least 1,500 people over the past three days as civilians tried to flee the besieged city, the Sudan Doctors Network said on Wednesday. The group, which tracks the country’s civil war, described the situation as “a true genocide”.

The large number of people continue to be slaughtered without much of a peap from news outlets. A little note, here and there. The numbers of people slaughtered is awful. Few care.

Personally no idea but the article states this as the reasoning

However, after the justices were presented with the National Security Council's position, which stated that “holding the demonstration would harm Israel’s foreign relations and national security”, the petition was withdrawn, and the court upheld the police decision.”
