Conflict in the Middle East

Hamas targeting groups and clans in Gaza

Hamas appears to be preparing to exact vengeance on those opposed to its rule in Gaza. This will come in the form of mafia-like murders of those Hamas claims are “collaborators.” It will target clans and groups that have shown opposition to Hamas. It will also target those that have worked with Israel, or who it accuses of working with Israel.

A Telegram channel linked to Hamas said the group would target “collaborators.”

The BBC reported that “Hamas recalls 7,000 fighters to reassert control over Gaza as fears of renewed internal violence emerge following the withdrawal of Israeli forces. The mobilisation has been widely anticipated as uncertainty grows about who will govern Gaza once the war ends - this is a key sticking point for later phases of Trump's plan.”

Hamas has long used mafia-like gangland tactics to keep people in check in Gaza. This goes back to how the group emerged in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Hamas leaders such as Yahya Sinwar were known for brutally murdering “collaborators” back then. Sinwar is dead but his tactics live on. Hamas has lost a lot of its larger weapons but it retains AK-47s and can use them to murder people. Videos have already emerged of Hamas allegedly murdering people.

The brutality of the organization has also been revealed in a New York Times article that shows how Sinwar and Hamas planned to murder Israelis and burn communities on October 7.

What were Israels other goals?

At best, decimating Palestinian society to lead to ethnically cleansing and then resettling the land. At worst genocide primarily by destroying all the basics of life.

I know you think that Hamas are so uniquely awful that Israel couldn’t possibly abide by any rules of war and that civilian death was necessary to make Israel “safe”. But even if we could accept that sometimes civilian life shouldn’t be protected, there is simply too much evidence that Israel had other goals in this war that had nothing to do with Hamas and more to do with, at best, utterly destroying Palestinian society.

As awful as it is, it's not actually illegal or a war crime to have civilian deaths in a war, and I wonder if people misunderstand this point and hence the genocide accusations?
It's not legal to explicity target civilians obviously, but that's viewed separately to collatoral deaths.

That being said, despite the accusations, Israel did in general go to a lot of effort to avoid or minimise civilian casualties by pre-warning the populations to leave areas that were due to be heavily targeted. If you look at the number of deaths relative to the destruction, they were successful at it, too. And also bear in mind that many of those deaths will have been Hamas fighters.

Do you have evidence of the "other goals" of destroying Palestinian society? Because pre 7 October 2023, it was the opposite. More work visas were being issues to Gazans, the security was easing - Hamas took advantage of that in the worst way possible.

I'm still not sure what people actually expected Israel to do after 7 October? Just be like oh well?

I don’t think the international law experts got “confused “ and thought civilian deaths equal genocide.

There is buckets of evidence that Israel not only did not try to protect civilian life but actually targeted civilians.

Why don’t you read up on the genocide case? It lays out the evidence of genocide.

Oh that old chestnut rather disproved by Israel's enthusiastic acceptance of the ceasefire and peace plan, and sending in tonnes of aid.

That’s simply not true. The Israeli government seem to have been reluctantly bullied into a ceasefire by Trump. And the UN and other aid agencies are saying that there still isn’t the flood of aid required to avoid, in particular, deaths from infectious diseases.

Only time will tell whether this genocide has been stopped in its tracks.

HORRIFIC: Palestinians reported that Hamas executed the two children, Yussef Hassan Abu Ajwa and his brother Zaid Hassan Abu Ajwa, and their mother, Ulfat Jihad Ab Ajwa, because their father, Hassan Ab Ajwa, joined the anti-Hamas militias operating in the Strip.Hamas will break the ceasefire and restart the war.

Where are all the “ceasefire now” people who were so concerned with Palestinians?

I don’t think the international law experts got “confused “ and thought civilian deaths equal genocide.

I also think there's been a huge agenda at play here. it's no co-incidence that it was South Africa that brought the case to the ICJ, right before a general election where Iran heavily funded the ANC.

There is a massive amount of global politics involved, for sure.

Dagda · 18/10/2025 11:09

But many other international law experts have come to the same conclusion.

Are don’t believe that the UN, aid agencies, human rights organisations both within and outside of Israel and the IAGS are all in cohoots with each other to demonise Israel

@SpaceRaccoon you are claiming there is hatred of Jews on one hand (by human rights organisations and international law experts) and then sharing X links on the other, when it is the biggest platform for spreading antisemitism.

What a silly argument. Antisemitism is so widespread its disseminated on every platform
I mean, we're all here on mumsnet.

Jeering again. Why do you all end up resorting to the jeering? I don’t see that Mumsnet has allowed anti semitism to run unchecked through the site.

I’m just pointing out that factual and human rights based criticism of Israel has been silenced and smeared. While blatant, hateful anti semitism has gone unchecked and been allowed to grow, in particular on X, alongside hateful rhetoric against Palestinians and Israeli propaganda.

Good thing I don't share links that are antisemitic then.

Only because people like myself report many anti semitic posts.

Haven't you noticed how many deletions there are on some threads? Not to mention some threads have got removed completely because they were so anti semitic.

They don't care. If they can't blame Israel, then the deaths of Palestinian children mean nothing to them

Look at the media and protesters actions since Hamas started their public murder spree.

Silence.

It was never about Palestinians.

It was about Jewish people.

So anti semitism does not run unchecked because reported posts are actioned on?

Correct. It doesn’t run unchecked but it would if individual posters didn’t report posts.

They stay up quite a long time sometimes because MN admits they rely on people reporting posts that break site rules.

Some are, some aren't. Some stay up for many hours, the damage is done, the dog whistles are blown, and the cumulative effect remains. There is a reason why so few Jewish people post on here.
