Is there a ceasefire yet or not? Even if there isn't the latest massacre that Israel have just carried out is fucking disgusting. Bombing a residential building where more than 40 people are trapped under the rubble.

SirBobblysock · 09/10/2025 18:54

@twiglets1 - but no more hostage releases had been agreed under that phase of the ceasefire. The next stage, which never happened, would have addressed the further release of hostages. I really hope both sides act consistently and in good faith now moving forward.

It's bizarre isn't it. There was a clearly laid out progression outlining exchanges of hostages and a roadmap for moving on to the next stage of negotiation of the same. And then suddenly the discourse on one side switched to "Hamas must just immediately release ALL the hostages, without expecting ANYTHING in return, or we'll abandon that roadmap, return to bombing the shit out of them and it will be their fault".

And lots of people on this board seemed to think that was a fair and reasonable understanding of what honouring a ceasfire means.

SpaceRaccoon · 09/10/2025 20:11

What was that about only Israel breaking ceasefires?

I mean in a sane universe this is not unreasonable! They should never have been hostages in the first place.

Hen Mazzig (@HenMazzig) on X

BREAKING: Despite signing a deal to release those they kidnapped, Hamas attempted to kidnap an Israeli soldier yesterday. We must not ignore that Hamas just tried to invalidate the ceasefire agreement before it even really started.

There isn't a ceasefire yet, if there was, what does that make Israel's actions in the last couple of days?

The Jan - march one is the most recent ceasefire and yes it was Israel repeatedly breaking it.

dropoutin · 09/10/2025 20:20

As the thousands of Palestinians being held without trial in Israeli prisons should not have been prisoners. Hence negotiation and exchange. If it's such an unreasonable idea, why did Israel enter into it in the first place?

You either honour the terms of a ceasfire or you don't. As it's unarguable that Israel were in the wrong there, you seem to just want to move the goalposts to "the terms should never have existed". Despite the fact that Israel itself negotiated them.

And in a sane universe there would be no illegal occupation of Palestine. We could play this game all day.

SpaceRaccoon · 09/10/2025 20:21

I'm so tired of this pretense that there's any sort of equivalence.

Lonelycrab · 09/10/2025 20:48

So the far right elements of the Israeli govt don’t seem to be agreeing on this deal and are threatening to bring down BN govt.

HellsBalls · 09/10/2025 20:59

When you have the leader of the greatest military and economic power that has ever existed on the planet breathing down your neck, it tends to focus minds.
Sure there will be arseholes on both sides trying to derail the peace plan, but Israel will play ball, I just hope that Hamas, or whoever is speaking for them, realise the opportunity they have.

Apparently that bringing down is not so important as elections are due very soon anyway.(This was mentioned on Channel 4 News tonight.)

Let’s hope Israel don’t fuck it up. As they have all the other ceasefires.

That’s right it could only conceivably be Israel who would fuck it up. Not Hamas despite being a terrorist organisation.

People being so biased are not helping the situation.

🙏🙏🙏🙏 if Trump pulls this off I'll gladly swallow every awful thing I've ever said about him.

And by pulls this off, I mean a permanent solution not just a sticking plaster for the next few years.

Completely agree

RealDiscussionNotHate · 09/10/2025 22:04

I want to say shut up quibling everyone, people in Israel and Gaza are literally jumping up and down rejoicing and posters on MN nitpicking. Come on please 🙏 peace and positively at least for now.

cupfinalchaos · 09/10/2025 22:08

JacknDiane · 09/10/2025 21:58

Completely agree

I don’t think there’s a permanent solution because the hate is passed down and the radicalisation of children in schools and at home has to stop for any hope. But I’m giddy with excitement for those families who’ve lived in a parallel world for two years. It’s all I can think about.

cupfinalchaos · 09/10/2025 22:10

So what about all the Pally marches then? Where’s all that hate going to go now?

cupfinalchaos · 09/10/2025 22:10

I guarantee they will still be marching. It will just shift to israel being "held responsible for their crimes" or some such. What they really want is the end of israel so they arent going to stop.

That narrative has already landed on here.

PaxAeterna · 09/10/2025 22:38

They’ll let in journalists now I assume?

And those journalists will still be too scared of Hamas to investigate them, verify their claims, show anything they wouldn't like or even point their cameras in their direction unless Hamas wants to be filmed. It will be the usual double standards, bias and allowing themselves to be the medium for Hamas propaganda.

The same ridiculous arguments. These are the same things that many pro-Israelis accuse journalists of even when they aren't in Gaza.

mids2019 · 09/10/2025 22:57

Watching the BBC and it's coverage of the elation on both sides of the conflict in the potential cessation of hostilities. Obviously the conflict potentially ending is fantastic from a humanitarian point of view but we shouldn't be disingenuous about feeling not shown to the cameras tonight.

The Palestinians are overtly showing relief but even now there will be thoughts about how to pivot 'stop the genocide' to 'justice for Gaza' as the pro pals will be desperate for international attention to divert from Gaza as so much has been lost to get and draw its attention to it. The pro pals are not going to want to stop the pr war even though the military war potentially has stopped.

That sounds a little bit mad to be honest.

Won’t this international group with a highly western bias be in charge.

If I was you I wouldn’t be overly concerned about Trumps belief in the free press.

SomeoneSomewheree · 09/10/2025 23:35

I think it's excellent news and both sides are ofcourse going to celebrate the end of this horrible war.

You don't have to always find a way to put a dampener on everything positive @mids2019 Maybe just take a moment and appreciate that there are alot of innocent people caught up in this mess that are finally breathing a sigh of relief, even if it is momentarily.
