Things can't go back to how they were before, and that's not just in terms of getting rid of hamas, but also giving people hope of self-determination, freedom from oppression and for justice for the crime done.

They need to be deradicalised as a society. And it was a war, not a "crime", unless you're talking at Hamas.

SpaceRaccoon · 09/10/2025 10:33

Peace first embedded and settled but then proper investigation and prosecution of war crimes on both sides

No-one's making a peace deal if they're going get prosecuted after. That sounds like a quick way to scupper it.

Well, Netenyahu's arrest warrant is still out, so hopefully one day he will be picked up and put before the courts. You shouldn't be able to negotiate your way out of a criminal investigation for war crimes.

Ok, more specifically, the repeated war crimes, the genocide.

And yes, those was absolutely do get prosecuted after a ceasefire.

But I assume you don’t have a problem Hamas being allowed to leave Gaza with immunity.

There's been no suggestion whatever of that happening though has there? And it's not a genocide.

The ICC arrest warrant? They're completely toothless in effect, because all 125 countries would have to agree to a prosecution.

Well then no fear of prosecution surely

Let’s see the truth of the genocide lie and war crimes with more of the international community going into Gaza and seeing for themselves in the coming months.

You’d expect Israel to have the receipts as they knew full well what they’d be accused of before they started operations in Gaza.

Alittlefeedbackwouldbenice · 09/10/2025 10:49

TicklishMauveSquid · 09/10/2025 10:40

I do have an issue with this, but most of the key ones are dead anyway.

Being allowed to leave and being allowed to leave with immunity are different things, I didn't think it was the latter, and people here have talked about how mossad will hunt them down anyway.

Most of the prominent scholars plus the UN say it is a genocide. I know there are a couple of ones that are known to be Pro-israeli that say it is not, but even those acknowledge that war crimes are very likely.

If you're looking at all war crimes, not just genocide. It's hard to see how Israel could argue its way out of that.

Where do you get that from?

Becausethat's really not true. The ICC operates independently. If Netanyahu steps foot in most countries in the world, those countries are obliged to arrest him. UK included. That's why his plane on the way to America did a very strange route to ensure that if there were difficulties he didn't have to touch down in a country that would arrest him.

SpaceRaccoon · 09/10/2025 10:57

And if he doesn't, then he won't be. Israel isn't a signatory.
I'm no great fan of the man, but it's interesting that for some, instead of celebrating possible peace, the immediate thought is how to go after Israel in any way possible.

I can hope that there's peace AND hope that war criminals eventually face justice, at the same time.

I agree too. Trump has done this. If this was say Obama who did this would the reaction by different from some. The people who are going on march upon march. Making hissing sounds when Jewish people are passing by.

I am a Londoner (dont live there now). Have been in a number of times over the last few months though at the weekends. During one Pro Palestine march some idiot grabbed my arm and asked me to join it. She was literally shouting in my face. Its as though they cannot see anything other than their own point of view.

Hopefully that will stop and I am going to say it..

TRUMP DESERVES THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE.

RealDiscussionNotHate · 09/10/2025 11:16

Hamas want 7 names of long term high Hamas officials released too. I understand Israel don't wish to release them (don't blame them, might start leading hamas back into conflict again) but hamas want this negotiated. Currently up to.2000 will be released, mixture of prisoners and detainees

RealDiscussionNotHate · 09/10/2025 11:22

TicklishMauveSquid · 09/10/2025 10:37

Well, I have just seen a video of Gazans happily singing Khaybar, Khaybar, ya Yehud, which is basically their way of saying it’s not over.

They all look very healthy and well fed when you’d expect the men to make sure the women and children are fed first in a ‘famine’.

I have noticed a lot of hysterical and angry posts this morning on X, full of Israel hatred. The pro-Pals Jew haters are really pissed that this war is coming to an end,

New allegations now that the IDF has been gang raping Palestinian women and videoing it and people actually believe it!

Good grief. That's not a good start to peace and a potential 2 state solution. Don't they want peace for their children and grandchildren. Surely not fighting forever

It’s pretty clear that some are more excited by war than the prospect of peace.

Thank God they are not relevant or involved in negotiating the peace plan.

Forgive my ignorance but how has it taken 2 years and DT to do this. How has it come down to Trump?

Personally I think a big factor in Trump’s success is everyone is scared of him & his unpredictability, including Hamas & Netanyahu.

What about the 65 000 or so Palestinian people that have been killed by Israel? Kind of makes the hostage numbers pale in comparison.

Trump does not deserve a Nobel Peace Prize. His country is on the brink of civil war and he’s mobilising the military against their own citizens. That’s not the actions of a peace maker.

This is not what this post is about.
Stop trying to deflect.

Yes, he was able to have an impact where Biden failed.

PrawnAgain · 09/10/2025 12:35

I hope this is a first step towards a lasting peace.

If things just go back to the way things were on October 6th then I fear we will be back here again in years to come.
