Personally I think a big factor in Trump’s success is everyone is scared of him & his unpredictability, including Hamas & Netanyahu.

Definitely this. Who knows what his next move would have been if Netenyahu or Hamas hadn't played ball.

IsEveryUserNameBloodyTaken · 09/10/2025 12:39

So pleased.Let it be so.

ScrollingLeaves · 09/10/2025 12:54

It feels like such a relief today. Let us hope peace blossoms.

User37482 · 09/10/2025 13:20

Really feel hopeful for both Israelis and Palestinians today. I sincerely hope that everyone will get some peace, time to grieve and rebuild.

SirBobblysock · 09/10/2025 13:31

I really hope this is the beginning of lasting peace and an opportunity for both sides to forward to a much brighter future

Usou · 09/10/2025 14:31

All credit to Donaldo. It takes something special to get to this stage.

How long peace holds for depends upon the extent to which Hamas has been degraded and how quickly they can rearm. I think their word is pretty much worthless, and I expect them to resume terrorist attacks when capable.

Getting the hostages back will be a start.

If the 65,000 casualty figure is reliable, it does not constitute a genocide at 3% of the Gazan population. That is collateral damage, and Hamas knew that would happen on Oct 7th.

Genocide is the stated objective of Hamas/Hezbollah/IJ, and I expect that to remain their long term goal. The IDF will need to be better prepared than they were on Oct 6th, and will need better intelligence on what's happening in neighbouring territories.

SirBobblysock · 09/10/2025 14:37

@usou the proportion of the population killed has no relevance to whether a genocide has occurred in International law. And a lot more than 3% (although that is already a horrific number) will have died as a result of famine and communicable disease. I hope both Hamas and the Israeli Government show a real commitment to this peace process - there are elements on both sides that will resist it and want to see it fail.

Well, I have just seen a video of Gazans happily singing Khaybar, Khaybar, ya Yehud, which is basically their way of saying it’s not over.

They all look very healthy and well fed when you’d expect the men to make sure the women and children are fed first in a ‘famine’.

I have noticed a lot of hysterical and angry posts this morning on X, full of Israel hatred. The pro-Pals Jew haters are really pissed that this war is coming to an end,

New allegations now that the IDF has been gang raping Palestinian women and videoing it and people actually believe it!

https://x.com/HeidiBachram/status/1976080716132970608

Yes it is an absolute miracle how well and healthy they all look, that 'famine' was very short lived wasn't it.

All we can hope is the hostages will be released. It isn't over, jihad sadly will continue and more widely too. The pro pal 'cause' has revealed how widespread it is.

Let’s hope Hamas don’t fuck it up.

You know it wasn't Hamas that unilaterally broke the last ceasefire, right?

daisychain01 · 09/10/2025 18:28

Trouble is it would take a nano second for a ceasefire to stop being a ceasefire.

its fragile and an illusion, just so the (male) politicians can trip over themselves to pat themselves and each other on the back and congratulate themselves at how brilliant they are at negotiating.

Until it isn't a ceasefire.

It was more nuanced than you suggest (for the benefit of anyone who may not know the details).

Israel started fighting again at a time when the ceasefire had been paused. The two sides had finished phase one of the ceasefire and had yet to start phase two, so were not in a designated ceasefire period at the time.

The reason Israel started fighting again was because they had reason to believe Hamas weren't negotiating in good faith.

This time Hamas have more incentive to negotiate in good faith because all their allies and supporters amongst other countries are now urging them to do whatever it takes to keep the peace. Egypt, Qatar, Turkey and even Iran are supporting the US peace plan.

That's not true. Hamas wanted to move to stage 2, which should have happened automatically at the end of stage 1. Israel refused because stage 2 would mean the start of withdrawal and wanted to extend stage 1 indefinitely. Then Israel started attacking.

EasyTouch · 09/10/2025 18:35

Prayers, up!❤️
Hopefully a serious entente will come about before the Winter.
Two years is long enough and too long.

Yes it is true. BBC report from March 2025:

Israeli fighter jets unleashed a wave of bombardment across the Gaza Strip through the night, ripping into a fragile truce that has mostly held since it came into effect in January.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu overnight laid the blame at Hamas's door for the renewal of his deadly aerial campaign.

The Israeli leader's statement said the military have been instructed to take "strong action" against Hamas following their "repeated refusal to release our hostages" as well as its rejection of US proposals.

In local press, Israeli military sources have also talked about seeing an increase of Hamas activity to regroup their forces in recent days.

Watching the celebrations in both Israel and Southern Faza of ordinary people who don't want a war again. It would be amazing if this was the last time the Gazans and Israelis were at war. Lots of happy smiling faces and literally jumping for joy, it was lovely to see

Wolfwhistles · 09/10/2025 18:52

Good for Trump. Obviously there have been a lot of other people involved to get to this stage who have done a lot more of the hard work but credit to him for pulling this off and using his power for good.

SirBobblysock · 09/10/2025 18:54

@twiglets1 - but no more hostage releases had been agreed under that phase of the ceasefire. The next stage, which never happened, would have addressed the further release of hostages. I really hope both sides act consistently and in good faith now moving forward.

EsmaCannonball · 09/10/2025 19:18

I still feel cautious about this. Israel is making lots of concessions and Hamas will be left still in Gaza and still armed. When you think of all the twisted, sadistic mindgames Hamas has played around the hostages I also don't put it past them to murder a few more or to falsely claim some hostages are dead and hold onto them.

I hope it's noted that this ceasefire was brought about not by the protests nor the flotillas nor UN resolutions nor by the likes of Starmer, Macron and Carney recognising a Palestinian state but by the US and Israel literally sticking a rocket up Qatar's arse and telling them to stop fucking about. It was FAFO in action.

This troubles me as well. I can't see certain aims and beliefs being let go of that readily.

I agree, I think most must know if this sticks it’s Trump and none of the others you mention.

I do worry about Hamas as you say in the first paragraph too, but Trump will be leaning on Israel.

TicklishMauveSquid · 09/10/2025 01:38

Let’s hope Hamas don’t fuck it up.

Trump should get his Nobel Prize if he pulls this off.

Praying all the known living hostages all come out alive and the dead are treated with dignity, not the grotesque carnival of last time.

Does anyone what the reaction of Gazans has been to this news? Hopefully positive.

Let’s hope Israel don’t fuck it up. As they have all the other ceasefires.

Wishing14 · 09/10/2025 19:46

Thank god Trump is President… Sometimes you need to fight fire with fire. Love him or hate him, he means business and speaks a language that non-western leaders understand.

InsectsMatter · 09/10/2025 19:49

Thank you President Trump.

Hopefully Hammas won’t break the ceasefire - they usually do.

Anyway the revolting racist Palestinian marchers will have to find some one else to bully every Saturday so maybe us Londoners can have our city back.

Wedonttalkaboutboris · 09/10/2025 19:30

Let’s hope Israel don’t fuck it up. As they have all the other ceasefires.

I was just looking more at the last ceasefire. Breaches by Israel pretty much every day in terms of killing people, then their refusal to stick to the deal, and then full blown airstrikes. I mean, kids were still getting shot and killed by Israel during the apparent ceasefire.

I assumed they'd be a lot of screw ups and breaches by Hamas as well, kind of tit for tat, but it amounted to (a) the returning ceremonies & where they returned a wrong body instead of Shiri Bibas (b) them being slow at giving lists of prisoners (c) then wanting to stick to the ceasefire as agreed. There was one rocket fired and it landed within Gaza.

So based on previous behaviour, I'm much more pessimistic that Israel will stick to the ceasefire once the hostages are returned. All we can do is hope for now.
