My apologies a deadly shooting attack, not a bus attack as terrorists have used over the years against Israel

The Guardian's coverage accidentally includes a very apt ad

Hailed by Hamas as 'a heroic operation'.

...and not just by Hamas, I am sure there will be plenty of people here applauding this "brave act of defiance" 😖

quantumbutterfly · 08/09/2025 11:43

Surely not...everyone here just wants peace for all in the middle east.😶

YouCanMissHer · 08/09/2025 11:44

This is awful what a horrendous atrocity

TooBigForMyBoots · 08/09/2025 11:45
Sad

Very sad, civilians are never legitimate targets

Surprise, Surprise. I wonder why Israel feels the need for strong borders, controls etc. When they fail it's death by terrorist shooters or terrorist bombings.

Defiance and resistance are words used I've seen used by mumsnetters.

I am on the Pro Palestine side and strongly dislike terror acts no matter where they happen. The only thing is that it shouldn’t be used as an excuse to ramp up attacks on innocent Palestinians by the Israeli government.

Im on the pro peace side. Too much hatred and division.

A new start when Hamas have gone and the hostages released and conflict ended is important. Many need deradicalisation. Both 'sides' have innocent people who want a future gor their children. Sadly, Hamas just want to destroy Israel. I hope peace can be achieved.

Full Hamas statement on shooting attack in Jerusalem:

“In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate

Press Statement

We praise the heroic and exceptional operation carried out by two Palestinian resistance fighters at the Ramot settlement junction north of occupied Jerusalem.

We affirm that this operation is a natural response to the crimes of the occupation and the genocidal war it is waging against our people. It sends a clear message that its plans to occupy and destroy Gaza City and desecrate the Al-Aqsa Mosque will not go unpunished.

The ongoing aggression of the occupation against our Palestinian people in Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem will not break the determination of our people and our resistance. This operation, carried out in the heart of Jerusalem, strikes at its security core and affirms the resolve of our revolutionary youth and courageous resistance to continue the path of struggle and confront the fascist Zionist aggression.

The criminal projects of the Zionist enemy and its attempts to subjugate our Palestinian people or break the will of our resistance will fail. Its illusions of crushing the resistance or expelling our people from their land and homes will shatter before the determination, courage, and steadfastness of our people, our heroic resistance, and our free and defiant youth.

We highly value the steadfastness and resistance of our youth in the occupied West Bank and call on our steadfast masses to intensify confrontations with the occupation and its settlers, to challenge its criminal army and its security and military measures, in support of our people and our holy sites, and to reaffirm our right to freedom and liberation from the occupation.

I agree (it will be though, sadly for all)

I have never seen support of Hamas on here, but I have seen horror at what is happening in Gaza. I have also seen a number of posters defending what Israel are doing in Gaza and saying civilian deaths happen in war. So isn't that what has happened in Jerusalem. I am saddened and horrified by it all

allusernamesaretakennow · 08/09/2025 15:09

"In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate" ..... in his name they kill.

I never get religious comments, when they kill in the same of a God, that they also call merciful.. Makes no sense.

Have you had your eyes closed. The excuses, the minimising, the rape deniers, the twisting of history, the inability to realise the history, the huge numbers of comments excusing and enabling them, many deleted since October 7th, all keeping the hate alive.

It won't improve for anyone with Hamas still there.

It depends on if you would classify Jerusalem as an active war zone.

You complain about people justifying civilian deaths because there’s a war in Gazan, seemingly unaware you’re doing the same thing. It’s fine that those people were killed today because there’s a war in Gaza which Israel is completely to blame for.

Yesterday, we were getting closer to a possible ceasefire.

Today, a terror attack is carried out in the WB apparently by the very organisation who is about to agree the terms of that ceasefire. Anyone think they’re going to agree to step down?

No. The attack in Jerusalem was a terrorist attack, totally outside of the norms of a war.

SharonEllis · 08/09/2025 16:09

I would also note the striking reference to 'youth' in Hamas's statement. Worth remembering when Israel is criticised for killing children, usually defined as under 18. The UN defines youth as from 15 to 24. I wonder what Hamas defines it as?

What is happening in Gaza is a war.

What happened in Jerusalem was an act of terror.

I saw some footage of people fleeing that was taken by a nearby driver. Grim stuff and my thoughts are with all those affected.

Leaders on both sides have let their people down so badly, I'm Jewish and I don't see how this cycle of hate will ever end at this rate.

Agreed. Its heartbreaking.

Lolapusht · 08/09/2025 16:44

It’s not going to end, not any time soon.

Think about what each side would have to give up in order for that to happen.

Israel would have to cease all military activity in Gaza & WB, probably accept Hamas and trust that they won’t be attacked by any of the multiple groups/countries who want them dead. Would you put down your weapons if someone is coming at you with a gun?

Hamas would have to stop attacking Israel, give up power, stop siphoning off aid money and agree to a transformation of UNRWA etc.

Is like this ceasefire. Israel wants all the hostages released and Hamas removed from power. There is no way all the hostages are going to be released. Neither is Hamas going to step down plus they’d also want Israel to stop all military activity in Gaza which Israel is never going to agree to.

Today’s attacks are going to see tighter restrictions on Palestinians crossing into Israel which will further anti-Israel feeling there and in the West. The terrorists families will receive their monthly stipend for killing Jews which will further distrust of the aPA as a viable alternative to Hamas. Settlers are going to continue moving into contested areas in WB and Palestinians will continue to carry out terror attacks along with Hamas continuing their war.

Nobody has an answer, but 7 Oct put back any chance of a vaguely permanent peace for years. As did today’s attack. I have no doubt that was tuned to scupper the ceasefire agreement so more civilians are being sacrificed for their leaders’ cause.
