Good news. Political pressure, protests and letters beginning to work

I saw that Belgium will be recognising Palestine and introducing sanctions including a ban on the import of products from illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.

Keep discussing Palestine, keep writing to your representatives, it's working. Back when Ireland recognised Palestine a lot of people jumped on the Ireland antisemitic bandwagon. Turns out Ireland just saw through the Israeli government a lot sooner than other countries. Better late than never though, keep the pressure up, it works.

Will Israel care what a tiny country near the UK does? I doubt it.

not a war a genocide, 63, 000 Palestinians dead, what more evidence do you need

Genocide is not a matter of numbers so that is not evidence at all.

You can only assume @Everexpanding includes Hamas, PIJ and the other terrorist groups in Gaza as sad casualties of war too.

The "tiny" country that is much larger than Israel? It cares alright. The Global pressure against Israel isn't a good look.

So true. And it has a very long coastline. With virtually no vessels to patrol it. Which is why it’s become the favoured landing point for Iranian/Hamas drug running to the European market.

Oh please. The tone of this thread when I posted was very much in the vein of a win for Irish protestors against Israel despite it being no such thing.

Israel moving the sale of it’s bonds to Luxembourg doesn’t save any innocent lives.

Hamas surrendering and releasing the remains 48 hostages might.

Thank you for correcting misinformation.

Wow, really. If thats correct then I hope that is sorted as a priority, assuming it is one of course.

I seriously doubt Ireland with its rather unpleasant Higgins is even on Isreal's radar. The size of a country does not matter it's their global standing, their military and economic power. Ireland is very pretty but I doubt this will make BN break out into a sweat.

Of course it's a priority. It's a link with the Kinehan drug gang. The navy/army rangers/gardai and customs seized cocaine worth 157m off the coast of Cork a couple of years ago.

Though the much postponed trial for fraud has got him sweating.

Ireland is Israel's second biggest trade partner.

The Kinehan gang have links with Hamas/the Iranians. Goodness, hopefully 'just' drugs entering Ireland and not weapons too. Nasty business.

Only in terms of imports. Not even in the top 10 for exports. I though Irish people were boycotting Israeli goods. Are imports being impacted now as it seems they weren't much last year?

If they feel so strongly against Israel (as per other various comments on several threads) then why do they do so much trade with them.

Members of the Kinehans have been convicted for gun running and weapons so literally nothing would surprise me. They have links with Hezbollah so it's all a very murky underworld. BBC has a very good program about the family (Ireland Mafia or something) scary shit.

What a vile group. I'll look out for it. Very worrying for Ireland or whichever country the weapons end up.in.

Its the tech sector, 3.02bn in electronic circuits and about 230m in all other goods.

I imagine those electronic circuits are needed for the tech sector in Ireland which includes Intel.

What would the effect be if Israel refused to trade with Ireland?

Ireland is Israel's second biggest trading partner — we need to look at why

Despite strong public support for sanctions, Ireland’s trade with Israel is booming — and multinationals are driving the growth
