A mild, late, spineless stand. But a stand. It makes me wonder how much longer this can go on before governments realise people are fed up of this.

@Gloriiathe message covers everyone. It’s very clear

It doesn't though does it. No mention of hostages.

This seems ro be an appeasement thing for Saleh's comments about a footballer killed in gaza? I may be wrong just seems a funny coincidence.

LifeOfAShowGirl · 14/08/2025 10:59

I didn’t say no. I’m not UEFA. Surely the message targets both side?

I’m wondering why we didn’t mobilise immediately and see this heightened and continued pressure on Hamas re releasing the hostages. For the last two years banners and SM sites demanding it.

I also question propaganda, which I think Hamas have used successfully.

Are the hostages not civilians?

It’s Salah. Not Saleh. Have some respect.

UEFA were called out for their piss poor message re. Suleiman al-Obeid, a footballer who was killed by the IDF while queuing for aid. UEFA posted a message that didn’t acknowledge what had happened and Salah rightfully called them out.

I don't think the remaining hostages are civillians? I think they are military.

Okay.

Message still stands. Genocide is not acceptable.

Please don't resort to spelling correction, salah/saleh you knew who I meant.

Even an 'end the conflict in gaza' would've been more appropriate. But yes, the hostages should be been mentioned on their banners.

But why? The message is clear. Why do you disagree with it?

I'm not sure tbh. Google doesn't seem very forthcoming but I know that quite a few of them at least are soldiers.

It's almost getting to the point now where everyone was against it all along. I don't know who they think they are kidding at this point.

See also Damon Albarn (got there properly in the end)
We’ll know the tide has really turned when Thom Yorke stops both siding ( likely never )

It’s not hard to get a name right.
And why should the hostages be specially mentioned in the messaging? The hostages are not made of gold, they are not more special or singular than any other civilian.

I think only the sort of people who see a mob with pitchforks and flaming torches and think 'yeah I'll have a bit of that'.

How did it get to these posts. Have you seen the video of Evyatar David?

The spelling of saleh/salah's name is not relevant. We all know who we are talking about.

The hostages should be 'specially mentioned ' because if an organisation like UEFA take a stand against a conflict they should include all victims. Regardless of their ethnicity/religious identity. It's pretty obvious to me but not to this football organisation.

Maybe they'll release more banners later..

Agree. What a thing to say. I don’t get it, so sad. He’s a tortured, brutalised man.

We have to remember that UEFA is just a football organisation. The people running it probably don't even know where or what gaza is.

But they haven’t specifically mentioned the civilians or every child in the conflict, why would they start giving special mention to one set of victims? All
lives are important in this not just a group of them.

So you're saying that all lives matter and there is nothing partisan in their sentiment. Just like Thom Yorke then.

Is he going to call out his fellow Egyptians for not helping Palestinians? 🤔

Is there any verifiable proof that Obeid was killed by the IDF? From what I’ve read there is no official verification of this.

As it has not been verified how he died or why, I don’t what see what more UEFA could have said from a legal standpoint.

This is a SM post of his after Hamas leader Isnail Haniyeh was killed:

https://x.com/mishtal/status/1954221014654587246

Did UEFA make any announcement about the Israeli footballer, who actually played in a UEFA team and was murdered on Oct 7th by Palestinians, which there was evidence of?

You would think with the platform he obviously has, that he might have called for Egypt to allow Palestinian refugees in wouldn’t you?
