Conflict in the Middle East

How is forced starvation allowed?

1000 replies

Tinycatnoise · 23/07/2025 22:28

The top story in the BBC right now is the starvation of Gazans by Israel. The images are horrifying and not dissimilar to seeing those images of concentration camps in Nazi Germany. I cried seeing those and am crying now. I am sure someone will claim antisemitism because of this statement, but anyone looking at these images of starving children would agree.

How is this still going on? I feel like we are watching a genocide take place that the world has turning a blind eye to. The daily shooting by Israel of people trying to get aid too is just barbaric. If nothing is being done to stop this, what is the next horror that will unfold in the world that people will just accept?

I’m never not astounding by the rampant denial on these boards. The absolute refusal to condemn Israel despite most of the world now recognising what they’re doing.

I shall never understand it and will always judge those people who do it as immoral.

Spot on.

Ha ha first Stupid, then the catch all Hun!!!!

Finally "angry large letters" that'll show em!!!

The formula is taken from them, not when they cross into Gaza but when they enter the Hospital.....

Are you posting in good faith? i'm not sure you are.

Edited

Absolutely agree with you.

I hope they’re not. That a person could harbour such despicable views towards innocent people and children is chilling.

To re-centre once again- because Muhammed’s image isn’t propoganda- and this is the reality that faces thousands of babies and children in Gaza currently…

The facts are:

  • Gaza is currently in famine conditions and it’s man-made
  • Israel has blocked baby formula and essential nutritional aid
  • Aid is being deliberately suppressed
  • Starvation is a war crime

These are documented facts from international bodies, medical professionals, and human rights organisations (see upthread for sources).

The starvation of babies is not incidental- it’s a predictable and documented outcome of policies blocking aid, including formula.

When does photo journalism of war zones cross over into exploitation? I’d always thought of it as merely showing the reality of what’s going on somewhere. Yes, the photos may be used by one or other side to rally support/outrage but the photos may being shared by the media is surely just journalism?

When they make a deliberate attempt to mislead people.

If the photo of Mohammed had said this poor child is starving because he can't get the specialist baby formula he needs due to him not being able to digest normal baby formula, everyone would feel just as sorry for him.

But to not mention his disability is to pretend that he is an average baby and that if he is starving, maybe thousands of other babies are too. But they aren't, because most can digest normal baby formula or normal baby food. This is the reason most babies in Gaza are not in the same condition as him, even other children in his family.

I'm not denying there are serious problems with people getting enough food to eat in Gaza, particularly nutritious food and obviously that affects vulnerable people the worst. But this isn't just photo-journalism, it's a deliberate attempt to deceive.

He's starving because of Israels blockade and Hamas' refusal to surrender, despite the indescribable suffering of their own people.

With that futile effort at balance I'll look away and head off down the pub.

Such a long string of comments because one person says they can't see what is wrong with this boy being used for propaganda purposes ... then a whole load of others wade in each trying to outdo each other in getting indignant about different things to distract from the original point.

The photo is exploitative, of that I'm sure. Thank you for pointing it out because the truth does matter.

The truth is that Israel's denial of aid into Gaza is the reason poor Mohammad is skin and bone. The truth is that Israel knew when they decided to restrict aid into Gaza that little disabled children like Mohammad would be the very first people in Gaza to suffer. The truth is Israel decided that this is ok and they did it anyway.

Israel were in possession of all of the facts when they decided to restrict aid and they decided that the suffering of little children like Mohammad was an acceptable consequence of their decision. This understandably makes some people sick to their stomach whilst others prefer to focus on the little boy having his picture taken.

I’ll be continuing my efforts to raise hundreds of pounds for the children of Gaza 🙂

I'm sure we all have theories about other posters who we see regularly, especially those repeating the same points they get from ChatGPT but still ... that's another distraction.

Theres 2 ways Mohammed gets fed.

Israel ceasefire.
Hamas surrender.

No one has ever offered an explanation for why they think Israel should take more responsibility for Mohammed's life than Hamas.

Everyone wants Mohammed fed.

I hope Hamas surrender soon.

Israel lost the right to “balance” when it imposed a full siege- cutting off food, water, electricity and medicine- on a trapped population, most of whom are children. Where’s the balance in starving over a million people, bombing aid convoys, and blocking baby formula? Balance isn’t owed to the side using starvation as a weapon of war. Which is a war crime.

Yes we do all want to see Mohammed fed, and all the other hungry people too.

I will be delighted when I hear that a ceasefire has been agreed.

Your sources seem to be ‘I’m sure of it’.

Chat gpt says 😂

If the points are accurate, sourced (which mine are!) and uncomfortable, then whether they come from ChatGPT, a UN report, or a history textbook doesn’t really change their truth.

Dismissing facts because of their format is just a way to avoid engaging with what they actually say.

Wedonttalkaboutboris · 27/07/2025 16:46

Yes I can’t wait for Israel to stop committing war crimes; cutting off food, water, electricity and medicine (to a trapped population, most of whom are children), starving nearly 2 million people, bombing aid convoys, and blocking baby formula!

So you'd rather that than Hamas just surrendering? Where does that leave Gaza, with Hamas still in power?
You know what, nevermind. Theres no point asking really.

Do you not see how grim this is though? Israel are purposefully starving little Mohammad and many others like him as a method of warfare. It's not just grim it's a crime against humanity.

They’d rather just blame Hamas and ignore the fact that even if Hamas had surrendered, they’d have had a continued siege and humanitarian crisis.
