There is no clean water left in Gaza

There is currently no access to safe drinking water in Gaza. Families are being forced to drink contaminated water from sewage or agricultural runoff.

This is a man-made humanitarian catastrophe- not a natural disaster. This isn’t just a crisis, it’s a form of collective punishment.

Gaza faces a man-made drought as water systems collapse, UNICEF says

GENEVA (Reuters) -Gaza is facing a man-made drought as its water systems collapse, the United Nations' children agency said on Friday. "Children will begin to die of thirst ... Just 40% of drinking

But why didn't Israel want to move onto the next phase? It was because they wanted Hamas to extend phase 1 to release more hostages.

On 1 March, the day the first phase of the ceasefire was scheduled to end, Hamas rejected an Israeli proposal to extend it to release more hostages.

Hamas said the second phase should proceed as originally planned.

Netanyahu's office said that Israel endorsed a US plan to extend the Gaza truce for the Ramadan and Passover periods. Under this plan, half of the living and dead hostages would be released on the first day of the extended truce and the remaining hostages would be released at the end of the period if a permanent truce was reached.

His office said that the initial deal allowed Israel to resume war at any moment after 1 March if negotiations were deemed ineffective.

Imagine how much suffering would have been avoided if Hamas had agreed to the proposal to extend the truce and if a permanent truce could have been reached at that point in exchange for all the hostages.

To summarize Israel changed the terms of the agreement to get what they wanted when it was refused they bombed 400 sleeping people in tents. .

Probably, and they did the same to us.

No, you're making that up. We never deliberately starved German civilians by blocking their access to food and water, and the Germans never did so to us.

You know who they DID deliberately starve though, don't you?

And ?

Who deemed them ineffective?
Ah yeah the ones dropping the big bombs cos they didn't get to change the agreement.

And ... Israel did what the terms of the initial agreement allowed them to do which was to resume the war after March 1st.

With that in mind, I do think Hamas should have signed a deal at that stage. It's not like they have gained anything in the months since then.

So they didn't change the terms of phase 1 to include more hostages?

I don't see what Israel has gained in the months since then except condemnation from:
-28 countries
-100 international aid agencies
-News agencies including AFP and Reuters

Phase I had ended.

It was a new proposal and I find it interesting how even now - after all the deaths and Gazan misery you lament day after day - you won't acknowledge that Hamas should have just agreed to the new proposal back in March. Rather than acknowledge that Hamas have gained nothing you change the subject to what Israel has gained.

I thought your view was that Israel was doing all this to drive the Palestinians out of Gaza, gain more land, etc?

According to your own expectations of what Israel will do next, you should easily be able to imagine what Israel could gain from continuing the war.

@Twiglets1 debate the post not the poster.

I know it wasn't a personal attack.

I know you weren't being rude.

I am just heart sore today at the images coming out of Gaza.

I couldn't give a fuck about Hamas and the whose fault it is narrative.I know both sides are complete assholes to be honest, but Israel could flood the market with aid and make it worthless and Hamas could not steal it.
They could both agree to a ceasefire but neither want to.

I just keep thinking of the babies and small kids that are going to bed with nothing in their bellies.

I'm sorry you are feeling particularly upset today, genuinely.

I find I can't stop focusing on "whose fault it is" like a sore that won't heal.
But at the same time, the human tragedy is bigger than that, you're right.

Ultimately, I agree that both sides are arseholes and there is no excuse for the suffering in Gaza. If I was negotiating a ceasefire I would agree to anything to stop that, particularly for the babies and children.

Thank you for that .I appreciate it

I understand the itch about whose fault it is but at this stage I just think they are all just absolute bastards.

If they could just give food to the hungry/not take food from the hungry and sort it out after. And international governments need to pull the finger out and cop on.

Sone days you just don't understand the world.

Must have imagined all the supply convoys to the UK being targeted. That's when the UK government got really interested in food security.

PaxAeterna · 24/07/2025 20:50

Do you really want to be reaching back to WW2 to demonstrate how we should treat civilians in war?

It’s no justification.

Kakeandkake · 24/07/2025 20:51

The story of little Amir who is enduring suffering after suffering. Little Hussain who died when the special formula he needed was just on the other side of the border.

The poor children.

I feel the world has woken up finally to the horrors of Gaza, but not enough is being done.

They have. The horrific images that people wanted as proof are finally happening.

It’s heartbreaking. There has always been enough food available at the border to avoid this. And even if the governments who have influence start taking action now, it will impact children forever. Even the ones who don’t die.

I just watched this elsewhere and for the first time in a long time actually cried over what is happening. It's beyond appalling. Those poor kids.

You are not alone. I think there are many people who are feeling despondent at not only the catastrophe, but the response to it by those who can make a difference.

Agreed and not just children. I feel sorry for the parents also and those who are being intentionally shot when queuing for food. It's disgusting.

I was reading that some parents have started suffering to such an extent from the lack of food, that they are struggling to even take care of their children. It is heartbreaking.
