There is no clean water left in Gaza

There is currently no access to safe drinking water in Gaza. Families are being forced to drink contaminated water from sewage or agricultural runoff.

This is a man-made humanitarian catastrophe- not a natural disaster. This isn’t just a crisis, it’s a form of collective punishment.

Gaza faces a man-made drought as water systems collapse, UNICEF says

GENEVA (Reuters) -Gaza is facing a man-made drought as its water systems collapse, the United Nations' children agency said on Friday. "Children will begin to die of thirst ... Just 40% of drinking

The article was from June, I wonder if the situation has improved or got worse since then?

What do you think?

The situation is dire. People have been using make do solutions to filter and treat water. The food situation is also dire. Gaza has gone from a self sufficient (grow, fish, farm) place to total destruction and the blockade. Food and water need to enter. Sadly “but hamas” will be along and suggest putting the population into Netanyahu’s concentration camps for their own safety. Very frustrating that this country and others are gas lighting a population that is suffering collective punishment for nearly 2 years. Just disgusting.

It is very sad but why Hamas don't release the israelian hostages? Hamas could stop all of this but they don't care about the suffering of their own people.

TakeMe2Insanity · 21/07/2025 06:53

As predicted.

Remember Israel could have let the food in instead of allowing Israelis to attack the trucks and waste the food.

It is ipc level 5

Egypt should open the border as a 3rd party, they have the power to do this - rather than expect Israel to do this for a country they are at war with.

What does Hamas have to do with Israel cutting off clean water to 2.2 million civilians? They’re not the ones controlling the crossings, bombing water infrastructure, or blocking fuel and aid trucks.

Even if you’re trying to destroy Hamas, it doesn’t justify war crimes against children and civilians. That’s the whole point of international law- it applies regardless of who the ‘enemy’ is.

Hamas being in power doesn’t give Israel a free pass to commit war crimes. Under international law, collective punishment, starvation, and targeting civilians or aid are illegal. ‘But Hamas’ won’t stand up in court.

@Worriedmum67

And even if Hamas did release the hostages (the ones who haven’t already been killed during Israeli airstrikes, as some reports and even the IDF have confirmed) does anyone seriously believe Israel would just stop the assault and let Gaza walk away free?

Netanyahu has said that they will continue with the war even if the hostages are released. If the Israel hadn’t broken the last ceasefire, the hostages would be home by now.

You can't honestly believe that the hostages would be released that easily. They're the only bargaining chip Hamas have left. No hostages, nothing to hold over Israel. The hostages could all have been released a long time ago if Hamas wanted to stop their people from suffering, but they have not done so. They don't care about their own people at all.

Agree that if Israel back down, it will be annihilated.

Israel is the world’s 4th largest military power, backed by the US and with nuclear weapons. Gaza has no army, navy or air force. Framing this as Israel being on the brink of “annihilation” while nearly 20,000 children have been killed and families are drinking sewage water to survive is frankly obscene. The idea that releasing hostages would suddenly halt this assault ignores the stated intentions of Israeli officials and the reality on the ground.

It is obvious who are being annihilated.

Israel could also stop it given they’re the one doing it …

7/10 showed Israel of taste of Hamas' intentions. You do naive, I will do me.

What do you mean “that easily” oy would have involved the complete withdrawal of the IDF from the Gaza Strip and the release of prisoners.

But It is a fact that if phase two of the ceasefire came to pass all the hostages would be home. It is the only bargaining chip they have - as you said yourself. They will only use it to stop the war permanently.

I agree with you that Hamas are not acting in the best interest of civilians in Gaza. This doesn’t give Israel free rein to kill, starve and maim innocent civilians and destroy every building in Gaza.

Dangermoo · 21/07/2025 09:28

It is just a fact that Hamas do not have the capacity to annihilate Israel. It’s an indisputable fact that their military capacity is much less capable compared to Israel which is one of the most advanced in the world.

You cannot honestly believe that the destruction of Israel at the hands of Hamas is in anyway possible or likely.

Insertfootnote · 21/07/2025 09:46

If Hanas cared about what was happening, they would return the hostages. They began this conflict with the murder and abduction of over 1000 people.

Newnamesagain · 21/07/2025 10:09

Genuine question: What outcome are people expecting to be workable here? Because the way I see it is Israel AND Hamas are being absolutely horrendous to the people of Gaza who are being treated as pawns in a proxy war between Israel and virtually every other country in the Middle East. They'd all happily wipe each other off the map. In that environment, I don't see an outcome other than genocide because they all see that as their only route to survival.

So the only workable solution, in your opinion, is to kill or injure the population, starve people and then intern them in a camp.

nothing else comes to mind at all?

Newnamesagain · 21/07/2025 15:09

@PaxAeterna Don't you dare put words like that in my mouth. I didn't say it's a solution because it isn't. It's a horrible situation that just festers for generations while more and more innocent people (on both sides) die. I asked what is a workable solution that gets us out of that situation because I am really struggling to see one while those driving what's going on now have a single drop of power and they seem too entrenched and numerous to stop.

The twisting of words is horrible isn't it?
