BBC Live Feed:

We've just heard from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office, which says Israel has struck a radar array near Tehran in response to "Iran's violations" of the ceasefire.
In a statement, Netanyahu's office says Iran fired one missile at Israel at 07:06 local time (05:06 BST) and two more at 10:25, after the ceasefire had come into effect.
The statement says Israel "refrained from further attacks" after the Israeli PM spoke with US President Donald Trump.
In the call, Trump "expressed his immense appreciation for Israel" which had "achieved all of its war goals", the statement continues.
"The President also expressed his confidence in the stability of the ceasefire," it adds.

A lot of media is being really irresponsible about this - there is still some okay reporting but a lot of inaccurate, irresponsible and inflammatory reporting. Such a shame.

@stepawayfromthedarkside Any news outlets in particular? I stick to BBC and stop myself looking at others.

I agree on anti war base. But that’s part of the reason he’s in anyway.

Why do you think Iran had the 400kg enriched uranium @BelleHathorif not to develop a weapon?

Who knows? I would think that after the failure of the European and American (before Trump’s withdrawal) signatories to adhere to their part of the JCPOA which stipulated that Iran must reduce it's uranium stockpile (in terms of sanction relief etc). Iran stopped complying too hence the stockpile.

Now though after the unprovoked attack, I imagine that there will be debate in Iran over going the Libya route or North Korean route.

The result is that thanks to this misadventure, no one knows where the 400kg of uranium is and the NPT and IAEA have been severely undermined.

There will be several countries now secretly working towards to proliferation to protect their sovereignty.

I’m sticking to this thread pretty much for updates. So I haven’t looked now but at times the media has exasperated me in terms of stirring.

I used to think the introduction of 24 hour rolling news channels in the early noughties was bad but this reporting on every word uttered and every tweet with no analysis or verification is getting ridiculous.

I think we’ll have to assess with more than a who knows though. Iran getting stronger unabated on that front wouldn’t be good.

What do you all make of this? Leaked intelligence shows the sites haven't been destroyed. Sky news reported the leaked intelligence apparently shows bombing the sites has only put Iran back by months, not years how Netanyahu and Trump have claimed.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ckglxwp5x03o

Maxar Satellite Imagery shows the ridge above the Fordo complex post-strike. Multiple impact craters and a wide grey-blue ash layer are visible across the ridge, suggesting direct hits to the overburden covering the underground facility.

US strikes did not destroy Iran nuclear programme, says intelligence assessment

The White House called the initial damage evaluation on Iran's uranium stockpile "flat-out wrong".

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ckglxwp5x03o

Whatsinanamehey · 25/06/2025 08:05

If you don't want to read the full article - this is what I was referring to:

The US struck three nuclear facilities in Iran - Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan - with "bunker buster" bombs capable of penetrating 18m (60ft) of concrete or 61m (200ft) of earth before exploding.
But sources familiar with the Pentagon's intelligence assessment say Iran's centrifuges are largely "intact" and the impact was limited to aboveground structures.
Entrances to two nuclear facilities were sealed off, and some infrastructure was destroyed or damaged, but much of the facilities, which are deep underground, escaped the brunt of the blasts.
The anonymous sources told US media it is estimated the attack only set Iran back "a few months, tops", and that any resumption of its nuclear programme may be based on how long it takes the country to dig out and make repairs.
Sources also confirmed to CBS that some of Iran's enriched uranium stockpile was moved before the strikes, according to the intelligence assessment.

So all those innocent civilians in Iran and Israel killed for what? I am so sick of men in power being so free and easy with other peoples lives, it is sickening.

CommissarySushi · 25/06/2025 08:09

This whole situation has just confirmed that Iran should absolutely not be allowed to have nuclear weapons.

PaxAeterna · 25/06/2025 08:11

I think this is what a lot of the criticism was saying. Sure even if you delayed it by a few years so what? You’ve just delayed it by a few years. Iran would be mad not to want to go nuclear now. It’s clearly very protective to have nuclear weapons.

That's the first thought that came to my mind. Was it all worth it? Especially when initial US intelligence claimed that Iran were not trying to build a nuclear weapon. It was only Netanyahu who claimed to have the intelligence they were and felt he needed to start bombing them ASAP.

Twiglets1 · 25/06/2025 08:11

@Whatsinanamehey the US are discrediting this leaked information and questioning it’s validity. They are still adamant the site is very badly damaged but the full extent of the damage impossible to assess at this current time.

News sources are just reporting what the leaked information is saying, they are not making a judgement about whether it’s true (or untrue).

I will wait until proper investigations of the site have been completed and reported by a credible source ( rather than the information coming from someone hiding behind anonymity) to form a judgement re the true extent of the damage.

Whatsinanamehey · 25/06/2025 08:11

Despite negotiation with Iran and the US were still ongoing.

Twiglets1 · 25/06/2025 08:13

Happy the ceasefire is holding and negotiations ongoing.

Of course Iran will still want nuclear weapons.

They can be protective as well as aggressive.

The trouble is the West doesn’t trust Iran to only use them for defensive purposes. Because Iran have been so aggressive in attacking Israel via their proxies like Hamas and have a stated goal of destroying Israel, the US & Israel do not trust them to have nuclear weapons. And neither do Israel allies like the UK, Germany etc.

the US are discrediting this leaked information
It is the Trump administration discrediting it. The information came from the Pentagon
according to an early Pentagon intelligence assessment of the attack.

Who Trump describes as "flat-out wrong" assessment was leaked by "a low-level loser in the intelligence community".
I am unclear why Trump thinks he knows more than the Pentagon but yes lets wait for things to be confirmed. I would imagine they are hiding behind anonymity because Trump would fire them otherwise.

Whatsinanamehey · 25/06/2025 09:15

More than just fired. Witkoff called the leak 'treasonous' and whoever leaked it should be held 'accountable'. They could possibly be prosecuted if found out.

The leak is iffy. Spread like wildfire. Best to wait.

You know what I'm finding really bloody annoying? Just as we're all drawing shaky breaths and keeping our fingers crossed for a bit of peace and this ceasefire holding, the UK press is awash with "The UK must prepare for possible future war, possibly on home turf" headlines, not to mention lists of places where we "might" be safer in the event of nuclear war.

FFS. I'm not in favour of keeping one's head in the sand by any means, but the feverish and continual banging of war drums is a bit bloody much. Feeling a bit Lennon this morning - can we not just give "peace" a chance, pretty please?
