Conflict in the Middle East

Yikes, Israel might have just attacked Iran!

This is NOT GOOD news!

Israel has declared a state of emergency, at least six explosions in Tehran.

This is seriously unfunny!

Israel has ZERO strategic depth - Iran has plenty. Nukes: see above, reverse!

They are experiencing it more than others posting. Why so dismissive?

Like I said I have a variety of reasons for not wanting to engage, I've discussed them with mumsnet and it would be breaking talk guidelines to discuss them on thread so I'm not. I wished her well and this is the last I am saying on it.

Dangermoo · 16/06/2025 12:32

Sheesh, wherever she may be. Well, she's certainly not in the comfort of a leafy suburb.

Well, she is not in Gaza.

Think I'm going to keep quiet as some posts do not deserve getting a ban for.

It sounds like she has more to fear than most of us posting. I don't know why people are antagonistic to a personal experience on mn.

Very telling I all I can say. Victim blaming at its vilest.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 16/06/2025 13:10

Oh this has all taken an unsavoury turn - how frickin sad 😔

Anyone posting from a position of fear and uncertainty in a conflict zone deserves support IMHO.

We're all the same under the skin after all.

MusedeBordeaux · 16/06/2025 13:11

The word vile is really misused on MN, much like a few other terms.

I agree, like genocide. That's the last you're getting from me.

Agree. My heart goes out to anyone who is scared, in the midst of it and posting on here.

Your experience is welcome and many will support you.

Posters have been extremely sympathetic to another poster in a similar situation. Sometimes it's not about an individuals situation but about what they've posted on the threads in the past that posters are wary of.

I am against military action and support diplomacy. I hope that there will be a ceasefire and the hostages will come home and I won’t spend my life terrified that my kids will be targeted in a terror attack. But I don’t think I’m being realistic.

Well I can’t see anything to disagree with you about with that. I hope you and @EllaDisenchanted stay safe.

I understand but I think that we also have to understand that when people feel their lives or homes are under threat, they are in a different frame of mind, flight or fight mode type stuff.

That’s why international governments and mediators are so important to resolving these situations.

I 100% agree I have sympathised with the poster and feel for anyone that finds themselves in such a terrifying hopeless situation, my point was more for those who are labelling some posters as vile

I stand by that. Unless any of us are personally caught up in this conflict, we aren't in a position to think we know best. If in doubt, don't post your thoughts. It's lacking in class.

ETA: that was not aimed at anyone, specifically.

Whatsinanamehey · 16/06/2025 16:08

Israel have called for residents in Tehran to evacuate and now Iran has called for residents of Tel Aviv to evacuate. It's getting really out of hand now.

I know some posters are very keen for Israel to continue this war but I think the outcome for civilians on both sides is going to be terrible. The window to de-escalate is still open in my opinion and it needs to happen fast.

Nobody's keen for a war to continue.

Guardian is now reporting that Iran is open to talks around de-escalation. I can't keep up tbh 🥴

I bet they are. Israel now has air superiority and can fly around without issue.

Also being reported in the Telegraph that Iran has been frantically signalling that it wants to end its escalating conflict with Israel and resume nuclear talks.

Tehran has been sending urgent messages that it would be open to returning to the negotiating table if the US doesn’t join in the attacks, while telling Israel it is in both sides’ interests to restrain the violence, sources told The Wall Street Journal.

Iran was later reported by Reuters to have asked Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Oman to press Donald Trump to tell Israel to agree an immediate ceasefire.

It comes as Israel ordered a major evacuation warning for parts of Tehran ahead of an expected escalation in its aerial campaign against the Iranian capital.

It's difficult to keep.up.

There's lots of bluster and we will do x, y and z. Then there's the reality. When Russia doesn't show support. Other Arab countries not wanting to join in, thankfully. Countries not rushing to support Iran, apart from terrorist organisations, that is. If feels like Israel is fighting to stop this year's and years on and on attacks from various terrorist groups in different countries so they aren't powerful enough for some time. With hezbollah the pagers damaged them, hamas weakened and now Iran. Just opinion.

Yes, it's relentless for Israel.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 16/06/2025 19:15

Guardian also has a video of a strike on the news broadcasting studio in Tehran.

I really hope it stops soon on both sides.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 16/06/2025 19:18

And also from the Guardian Netanyahu has openly said that targeting the Ayotollah would end the war.

Not sure how that will go down with Iran.

That’s the situation with Iran before they were attacked by Israel though.
They should have met yesterday for the next stage of talks but obviously that was cancelled but they were on a diplomatic route.

Will the Israeli Government ignore these offers, of course they will.
Listening to an interview on the news atm and it’s clear Israel will never stop.

Time for a regime change for Israel and Netanyahu to face the courts.
Then a new regime with an ounce of sense will stop these wars and starvation in Gaza.
Then negotiations with Iran can be resumed.
Then I would fully expect Israel to sign the nuclear Treaty.

None of that will happen though, not while our mental leaders do nothing.

Starmers take on this reminds me of what he said when asked if men had penises in the trans row. He said yes because he really didn’t know who to support. We have a wet blanket follower at the helm and perhaps we need a new PM too.

What do you mean that's the situation with Iran before they were attacked by Israel?

The post I quoted from the Telegraph was posted by them today. It is because Iran have been attacked by Israel that they are suddenly so keen to return to the negotiating table and get a deal signed.
