Yikes, Israel might have just attacked Iran!

This is NOT GOOD news!

Israel has declared a state of emergency, at least six explosions in Tehran.

This is seriously unfunny!

Israel has ZERO strategic depth - Iran has plenty. Nukes: see above, reverse!

It's effectively a declaration of war.

Civilian targets were hit in Iran. Also Iran's Nuclear reactor in Natanz.

Interesting timing considering that Iran announced a few days ago that it had obtained 1000s of secret documents on the Israeli Nuclear program (including location and number of nukes etc).

mids2019 · 13/06/2025 06:03

Fuck me.....Will the US get involved?

Israel don't have the bombs to deeply penetrate the ground to strike the most important facilities so this is interesting unless there was US support? Does Trump need a distraction from his domestic woes as well as Netanyahu?

With all eyes on Ukraine this is going to be headache on the international scene.

Only Iranian state tv is reporting civilian targets. BBC says no independent verification.

It's an ongoing situation.
However everyone should be careful as there are gruesome pictures of dead Iranians (including children) on social media.

I also see it as a declaration of war. They have invited Iran to mete onto Israelis what Israelis have done to Palestinians.

Is their plan to drag America into another war (thereby demonstrating it actually is a puppet state of Israel) to somehow make that Greater Israel map come true.

They’ve just made everything worse.
China will be delighted.

SharonEllis · 13/06/2025 06:38

You won't see gruesome pictures if you go to legit sources.

TranceNation · 13/06/2025 06:40

Another war, just what the world needs at the moment....not.

LandSharksAnonymous · 13/06/2025 06:42

This makes zero strategic sense.

If you have the brains of a person of average intellect, and not a terrified squirrel, it makes perfect strategic sense.

I won’t comment on whether I agree, but strategically only a dimwit would fail to recognise why Israel acted (even if they did not agree with it).

mids2019 · 13/06/2025 06:44

Can we take a second and reflect on how shi t the Iranian military is and how the iron done with US assistance will protect the major military and civilian structure in Israel. The US is not going to let Tel Aviv get bombed.....sorry all this who wanted to see Israel suffer damage.

We are going to see Iran utterly humiliated on the global stage with this weakness possibly leading to regime change.

This is a good thing alongside Iran not getting a nuclear weapon where we could possibly are a real genocide in the future. Sorry for all it is going to fill up over the next few days with petrol.....time to buy elwcteic?

Absolutely, read this policy paper from 2009 published by the Brookings Institute. The gameplan has been "known" for ages. The aim is regime change in Iran, replacing the Ayatollah with the son of the former Shah who was always more of a puppet to the West.

It why there has been this whole theatre of Trump distancing himself from Netanyahu to allow America to exercise plausible deniability. However Israel could not have carried out this attack without American assistance.

Which Path to Persia? Options for a New American Strategy Toward Iran

In a new Saban Analysis Paper, six Brookings experts analyze the main policy approaches toward Iran. In examining the benefits and drawbacks of the nine options—including engagement, persuasion, airstrikes, and containment—the authors refrain from reco...

This is really unacceptable.

We don't need this.

And why would the attack a nuclear station? It's completely irresponsible.

I have supported their right to self defence and am not enjoying the manipulative Hamas propaganda (although I support all people in the region, minus terrorists) but this is aggressive in a similar manner as Russia' actions against Ukraine.

I cannot see what good it will do, Israel essentially are shooting themselves in the foot.

I'm not expert so does anyone have any idea how and why Israel would benefit from this attack?

HellsBalls · 13/06/2025 06:54

Iran would wipe Israel off the map (along with tens of thousands of Gazans and Arab Israelis) if it got the chance.
Don’t weep for Iran, the backer of Islamist terrorists and instability in the Islamic world for decades.
This is a preemptive strike on Iran nuclear capabilities.
Why? We’ll find out. Why now? We’ll find out.
The Palestinian supporters here will be outraged at Israel defending itself once more, and twist language and focus on whatever civilian casualties would no doubt have sadly occurred last night.
The antisemitism will be palpable.

Pre-emptive strike so Iran can't nuke them, from the Reddit chat.

TokyoSushi · 13/06/2025 06:59

Ah, so that’s why Trump was evacuating people from regional embassies a couple of days ago..,

Yep, and the Israeli forces have performed simiar action several times over previous years/possibly decades.

Is there anything that Israel could do that would it earn your disapproval, or does the country simply have your unconditional support ?

I don’t think so. This has basically blown up the diplomacy that was going on. There are slot of people in the government now in the US who just don’t want to be involved militarily in other regions unless it directly benefits the US. It’s probably the only mercy about that government right now.

Look at the messaging, it’s quite different from what we saw after the Iran strikes in Biden’s time who said they would essentially stand by Israel. Now we are seeing - it’s not us, it’s nothing to do with us, we want to protect US personnel.

I think it is, what it looks like and the Israelis have gone against US advice. Will they get dragged into it is the question? Before I would have said it was a certainty.

I feel like the Israeli administration has lost their marbles and now we have to put our faith in this tangerine tyrant to handle everything correctly.

mids2019 · 13/06/2025 07:09

Of Iran for the bomb we would very much closer to seeing nuclear weapons in conflict at any since 1945. We cannot have an Iranian bomb when it clearly wants the destruction of Israel. In 5 years time we could have seen a conflict that would make the Gaza Israel conflict pale into comparison.

Israel has its own approach to nuclear non proliferation.

mids2019 · 13/06/2025 07:11

All the team Gaza folk obviously are now team Iran as well. How many are wishing well to any strikes on the IDF. Despicable.

ArtTheClown · 13/06/2025 07:13

Looks like Trump was well aware in advance anyway.

Twiglets1 · 13/06/2025 07:13

Telegraph headline: Iran could have built “15 nuclear bombs within days” says Israel after strike.

We are already seeing a 'real genocide'. In Palestine.

Sometimes appearances can be deceptive. Even if Israel did this without American knowledge, America would not admit it due to loyalty. Also American planes would have had to help refuel Israeli jets heading to Iran.

I don't think that Trump personally wanted a war with Iran and did want a nuclear deal. Actual American generals were against any escalation. Oil has already spiked 10%. Most MAGA voters are increasingly against Israel and more forever wars. The problem is that all American administrations are filled with war hawks in suits who don't actually do the fighting/dying.

Also from a purely selfish POV this is the prefect situation, all blame can be redirected to the Israeli government.

Yikes, Israel might have just attacked Iran!
BelleHathor · 13/06/2025 07:23

Oh and congratulations to Netanyahu he has just given Iran the final impetus to build a Nuclear bomb. That means Saudi would also pursue one too.

SharonEllis · 13/06/2025 07:26

Incredible. Iran, the largest state sponsor of terror in the world, behind the 7 October attack which we all agree was appalling, right? An evil thecratic regime which quashes dissent and appresses its people, particularly women, minorities and gay men and women. Actively developing nuclear capability (what do you think they want nuclear weapons for?). Openly declares its desire to destroy Israel and the Jewish people & actively supporting various groups continuing to attack Israel.

But all pales into insignificance because Israel is always wrong.
