It's heartbreaking
The gaunt, haunted images of children who are being starved to death, the amputees, the orphans, the women who used ivf to have a child that was blown to bits, the 40 newborns left to starve to death in neonatal ward
The hospitals bombed
Charity kitchens and bakeries bombed
Aid workers bombed
Tents bombs
Schools bombed
No universities left
Nothing left
I don't want to hear ooh but Israel has a right to exist
NO state that behaves like this has a right to exist
How can anyone justify Israel's stance?
This didn't start on Oct 7
This isn't about hostages
This is about human rights and why you think it's okay for Palestinians not to have any
I was a kid when Band Aid came about and remember how we raised money for Ethiopia
The fact that this is a man-made famine is abhorrent
I know there are good people in Israel- none in government sadly- but the West has blood on its hands for allowing this slaughter
Be honest you don't think that Palestinians are human do you that's why you don't care
I will never believe the western lie of democracy or human rights or freedom of speech again
It's all a big fat lie

From NATO

Hamas, an Islamist militant group and the de facto governing authority of the Gaza Strip, has been using human shields in conflicts with Israel since 2007. According to the Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC), the war crime of using human shields encompasses “utilizing the presence of a civilian or other protected person to render certain points, areas, or military forces immune from military operations.” Hamas has launched rockets, positioned military-related infrastructure-hubs and routes, and engaged the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) from, or in proximity to, residential and commercial areas.
The strategic logic of human shields has two components. It is based on an awareness of Israel’s desire to minimise collateral damage, and of Western public opinion’s sensitivity towards civilian casualties. If the IDF uses lethal force and causes an increase in civilian casualties, Hamas can utilise that as a lawfare tool: it can accuse Israel of committing war crimes, which could result in the imposition of a wide array of sanctions. Alternatively, if the IDF limits its use of military force in Gaza to avoid collateral damage, Hamas will be less susceptible to Israeli attacks, and thereby able to protect its assets while continuing to fight.

If you want to blame anyone for the death toll in Gaza, look to their government

We're beyond blame.

There is nothing to surrender.

Hamas offered up the hostages and netanyahu reneged on the deal. There is no deal to be made with that man. Israel have already said what their end game will be and it is chilling.

How can you say there is nothing to surrender? Hamas could surrender government of Gaza, their weapons, and the hostages. How can you say there's nothing? There's so much!

And those civilians in Gaza that will die in the next days and weeks? Are they nothing too? Shouldn't Hamas surrender to save their lives? And if the war continues, isn't there an increasingly likely chance of Smotrich and al getting their way in the West Bank? And the total loss of Gaza for the Palestinian people? Is that nothing?

There is nothing to surrender? I think you're so, so wrong.

Hamas are free to surrender and release the hostages any time they like.

There's no other way of stopping this. They swore to repeat 7/10 and they refuse to accept the existence of Israel and said they will fight to the death even if it means martyring every Palestinian as the fight to destroy Israel is bigger than them.

Israelis deserve to not live in fear of constant bombs and the spectre of another 7/10

It's awful for everyone. But Hamas caused this, they're the only ones who can end it. Release the hostages and surrender instead of being such cry-bullies and cowards.

Why would they surrender if 'there is no way of stopping this'? There is zero incentive. It's clear Israel are taking it to the end. Total genocide. Why would anyone surrender?

Israel are not stopping. If hamas surrender, Israel will continue the genocide. That much is clear. There is nothing to surrender.

PollyPaintsFlowers · 06/05/2025 21:10

I wonder if all those in the West who were celebrating on 7/10, including those dancing on the streets of London, think it was worth it now. Is Sinwar still a hero?

I said there's no other way of stopping this. Hamas need to surrender, release the hostages and disappear into the sunset of their multi-million pound compounds in Qatar bought with Western aid money

Free Palestine from Hamas

What a weird and goady question. Almost like you're enjoying this? Do you think the IDF are hero's for slaughtering babies and executing children?

People are asking for it to stop. Why don't you want it to stop?

Oh, what bullshit is this now?

So you say hamas can surrender to their riches in Qatar? Is that how surrendering to Israel works?

I'd say that's unlikely!

Ok you clearly don't want to answer that question, I can only presume because you actually don't want the war to stop?

Back to the original point of the thread, thank you for the post. I'm absolutely heartbroken over what we have allowed Israel to do to Palestine. Thankfully it hasn't gone away and we continue to hold a mirror to Israel, even if our government doesn't

The Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper quotes a source in the Hamas terror organization:
"The movement has been invited to Egypt along with other factions that will be invited later to discuss a proposed compromise that will lead to a ceasefire agreement. This could happen at the end of this week or at the beginning of next week. The mediators are trying to propose a deal that includes the release of half of the Israeli hostages in exchange for a two-month ceasefire with American guarantees to reach a final agreement to end the war. According to the sources, the final solution will include an agreement on the most sensitive issues such as governance in Gaza and Hamas' weapons."

How can they, in all seriousness, suggest a 'final solution'? This is not a serious offer of a truce.

Why are you asking randoms on Mumsnet why they don’t want the war to stop though? I haven’t seen anyone express an interest in seeing it continue.

I can’t make anything stop.

Better to ask Hamas why they don’t want it to stop. Honestly.

This is a thread about getting the people who are dropping the bombs to stop dropping the bombs.

But it's been jumped on by "whataboutery" apologists. None of whom can answer the question: should Israel stop bombing non-combatants including children.

This is horror being documented in front of us and the sickening privilege of those sitting back and saying "nothing to be done" is evidence of another low in humanity.

Vivi0 · 06/05/2025 21:43

You do see the problem that arises though when, as you say “People are asking for it to stop” and as you ask “when will it stop”, but if Hamas aren’t asking for it to stop, and don’t want it to stop, how does it stop?

Ask Hamas. Not randoms on Mumsnet.
