I think it's a real positive that brave Gazans are now protesting against Hamas openly demonstrating at least some of the population can see it is Hamas that has brought death and destruction to the enclave.

The irony is that war trodden Gazans are protesting in harsh conditions possibly risking death against Hamas while in your average 'Pro Palestine' March in London there are very limited signs with Hamas out. Should we start anti Hamas protests in the UK in solidarity with Gaza?

Masked Hamas militants dispersed protesters who gathered in northern Gaza to rally against the group.

Sadly I doubt that you will get many responses to your thread as it doesn't fit well with the current narrative and frequent posters on this topic.

mids2019 · 27/03/2025 06:09

I am just glad this is being reported and it is fair journalism. What theoretically could be happening is that Hamas' grip on Gaza is weakening therefore people feel relatively safe in making such protests. We will see.

The irony is that the signs don't claim 'From river to the sea we will be free' or any other demand for land but are virently anti Hamas.

Rich middle class kids at universities who have never experienced the realities of war are quite happy to have their anti Israel campus protests while not experiencing the reality of the war. They certainly aren't changing Hamas out as if they have this glorified image of Hamas as some sort of brave resistance and now we see at least for some Gazans view Hamas.

I agree it won't be discussed much on this thread as it counter the overall narrative that some wish to put forward.

This.

The entire rhetoric of the Western anti-Israel protestors is that Hamas have not brought death and destruction on their own people, but it is all entirely Israel’s fault, because Israel are evil.

They are blinded by their own racism.

The protests in Gaza are terribly inconvenient for them.

Twiglets1 · 27/03/2025 06:17

It’s a welcome development.

A bit confusing for some of the pro Palestinian marchers in London & other UK cities.

Some of them will be more pro Hamas than many Palestinians living in Gaza now.

Emilyschinchilla · 27/03/2025 06:19

It’s worth pointing out that the Gazan protestors are truly brave and risking death at the hands of Hamas for speaking out.

Unlike the cowards on the Western marches who are calling for Israel not to defend herself and for Western Governments to stop supporting Israel to be able to defend herself. The Western protestors are not been left at the mercy of Hamas, but are happy for their actions to leave Israelis and Gazans defenseless at the hands of Hamas.

Emilyschinchilla · 27/03/2025 06:20

Pro-Hamas supporters downplayed the significance of the protests and accused the participants of being traitors

Here’s your clue, western anti-Israel marches, at the risk those Gazan protestors have taken.

Twiglets1 · 27/03/2025 06:32

Yes they protest against Hamas at huge personal risk which shows the depth of feeling. Ordinary civilians want an end to the bloodshed and recognise that Hamas are partly to blame as well as the Israel government.

What are Hamas doing to help Palestinian civilians? Nothing. They triggered the violence with the October 7th 2023 massacre and could have returned Israel hostages a long time ago and gained concessions, instead of which Hell was unleashed as Israel warned them it would be.

mids2019 · 27/03/2025 06:40

The protesters are taking huge personal risk. It is incredibly brave and they must know the consequences from Hamas members in the coming days. It was also bravery to get the footage out.

It may be a sign Israeli military pressure has weakened Hamas to such an extent people feel they can protest. (Unlike the UK free speech is not a thing in Gaza) but we willsee. It may prompt western journalists to interview those with these views instead of falling for Hamas propaganda (looking at you BBC)

Yes agree generally with pp

Whatsinanamehey · 27/03/2025 07:10

I think the protests are great, but I can see why so many would be reluctant to join in this thread, when the entire premise by the OP and subsequent posters is to use the protests to bash others who stand up for the rights of the Palestinians. It also has lots of gross generalisations.

EdithStourton · 27/03/2025 07:12

I have absolute respect for the Gazans protesting. They are incredibly brave.

Whatsinanamehey · 27/03/2025 07:15

The protests hasn't done much to help the Palestinians though as Israeli bombs haven't stopped raining down on them. So where does that leave the Palestinians who want peace? Do they just accept that they will continue to be starved and killed regardless of their stance?

dairydebris · 27/03/2025 07:16

Great to see, gives me a bit of hope, thanks for posting.

Free Gaza from Hamas!

Well it’s early days for Palestinian civilians in Gaza to openly oppose Hamas and protest against them - for very understandable reasons.

It does bring hope though that Hamas can be eradicated if local people are feeling brave enough to protest to end their toxic rule.

Ecocool · 27/03/2025 07:31

I'm not 100% sure it's genuine, sadly. I can't see Hammas allowing this. How do we know these are not all Hammas sympathisers? I don't know why they'd be doing this but I just feel doubtful about the whole thing.

Hope I'm wrong.

Why would people protesting about Hamas in Gaza be Hamas sympathisers? I don’t understand your logic.

Twiglets1 · 27/03/2025 07:35

Did you read the BBC article @Ecocool ?

Hamas dispersed and assaulted the protesters they did not allow it.

But they can’t stop all protests or silence all Palestinian civilians.

wrongthinker · 27/03/2025 07:39

Wow that is incredibly brave.

I hope it at least gives the anti-Israel people here some pause and reflection.

Agreed .
I hope also that Netanyahu realises that bombing citizens ( many of whom oppose and detest Hamas) is not the way forward .

You know you can be both against the actions of Israel and Hamas? Many posters are generally even if they disagree on certain aspects at times.

I don’t agree with this in any way.
What “gross generalisations” are you referring to?

The protests were taking place in Beit Lahiya in the north, the North was still being bombed last night.

Yes - the bombing should stop. 💯
