I don't know will this link work but it's an Irish doctor working on the ground in Gaza describing what he saw the night before last.

The youngest child he pronounced dead was 4 or 5 months old.

Whatsinanamehey · 19/03/2025 19:02

Now started a ground op in Gaza too, clearly Netanyahu has made his mind up that he will sacrifice the hostages so he can carry on bombing Palestinians.

On Channel 4 tonight an Israeli MK or spokesman said - in response to the point put to him that military pressure did not work and a year and a half of war had not got rid of Hamas - that that was because of Biden having been in power during that time. That because of Biden they had had to fight with one hand, with the other tied behind their back being made to feed the Gazans. Now Trump was there, Trump said they could unleash hell. When the interviewer said that already an average of 400 a day has been killed so what would this mean, he answered: “You’ll see exactly what this means!”

Before him someone, similarly bent on war, said “We cannot have Hamas stay in Gaza. We’re not going to leave our sons and grandchildren to deal with their sons and grandchildren. We’re going to end this …”
In other words they intend to eliminate (by death, expulsion, or complete suppression under martial law) the Palestinian children who might otherwise be alive/free when their grandchildren are. When asked how he goes on to say they will conquer Gaza and implement Trump’s plan.

This was about 10.00 minutes in, Channel 4 news tonight.

Terrifying 😢

Martymcfly24 · 19/03/2025 22:09

Christ , it just shows how accepted it is by so many that this can be said out loud on mainstream media.

Imagine a Russian saying the same about Ukranians. I genuinely cannot understand why Israel have a carte Blanche to act like they do.

I'm feeling full of sadness and despair tonight. I can't even imagine how terrified those in Gaza are.

Twiglets1 · 20/03/2025 05:14

That’s scary footage from channel 4.

Trump threatened that “all hell would break loose” if all Israeli hostages were not returned by Hamas by a certain date. To the listening world that seemed like it could have been just more over the top rhetoric from Trump but his words have been taken very literally by the Israeli government.

A lot of the world will be horrified by what unleashing hell looks like but Trump is so powerful I don’t think they know how to stop the violence & killing from escalating now he is involved. In my opinion Hamas should return the rest of the hostages now.

Trump has told Ukraine that they don't hold the cards. They've also been told that they will have to give up some land that's been taken already. He also stopped sharing intelligence and withdrawn money for weapons. He was basically saying do what I suggest or your on your own, obviously some European nations offered support but far less in total without the US.

I think Hamas would rather innocents die than they release the hostages and bodies of the dead hostages. They really don't care for their people at all.

I care but everything is shut down by accusations of antisemitism or being a hamas supporter. When I posted saying I was against Israel’s bombing of Gaza a few months back, my posts were deleted by Mumsnet and when I questioned why, I was told by presumable posters who had reported me that it was antisemitism. I should have left MN then actually.

They probably think there is nothing to lose. Israel is not bombing to release the hostages. If Hamas were to release the remaining hostages and bodies Israel would carry on bombing and otherwise removing Palestinians whether they are Hamas or not.

Israel broke the ceasefire agreement in the first place because they want to carry on bombing. This was what they intended even as soon as they had signed it.

The Israeli faction in power intends to have Gaza. Netanyahu needs the war, and the removal of as many Palestinians as possible, in order to rule Gaza and to resettle it with Israelis so as to satisfy the right wing extremists who are backing him. This is so he can stay in power. If he had not restarted the bombing certain backers would have abandoned him and an election would have been needed imminently. Staying in power is also keeping him from criminal charges.

The idea that bombing will get the hostages free is spurious seeing as it could kill them. Testament from the released hostages is that they were affected by bombs and endangered or even killed by them.

Even when kept in the tunnels they could get blocked in by bomb debris from above which would be catastrophic.

I agree.

Hamas doesn't care if civilians die. In fact you could argue that it actually welcomes it.

Right wing parts of Israeli administration also don't care if Gazan civilians die.

The difference is that Netanyahu etc are a democratically elected government and can / hopefully will be removed next year.

There's currently no way of removing Hamas, I think we can all agree on this after the last 16 months of carnage.

Nothing can move forward until both parties are gone.

Western nations should be advocating for the release of all remaining hostages and the permanent removal of Hamas. There's got to be space for moderate community leaders to rise to power.

Getting rid of Hamas would be the absolute best thing for Gaza. I know it's easier said than done, but that's where it starts.

Twiglets1 · 20/03/2025 07:56

Hamas may think there is nothing to lose @ScrollingLeaves but what do they gain in keeping Israeli hostages & dead bodies any longer?

Plus Netanyahu could no longer use the hostages as any kind of justification for his actions which could affect public opinion.

Many more. Article in the Telegraph today (behind paywall)

Israeli troops launch offensive deep into Gaza
Israeli ground troops launched an offensive deep into Gaza on Wednesday, as the country’s defence minister issued a “final warning” to residents to evacuate combat zones.
In a significant escalation following the start of the aerial bombardment on Tuesday, tanks and infantry seized large tracts of a central passage of land in a bid to cut the strip in half.
In addition to the operation in the Netzarim Corridor, troops moved to enlarge the current buffer zone on the edge of the enclave.
It followed a second night of air strikes, with attacks on about 20 targets, including an alleged rocket site. The Hamas-run health ministry said these claimed 13 additional lives.
Israel Katz, the defence minister, said on Wednesday that the evacuation of the population from combat zones would begin “soon”.
“Gaza residents, this is a final warning,” he said, having been photographed inspecting an armed Israeli bomber.

His actions affect public opinion now but like he gives a shit. There are huge protests taking place in Israel since the war resumed which he has publicly attacked.

Whatsinanamehey · 20/03/2025 08:34

Israel was always going to go back to war in Gaza and now there's talks of a bigger war in the west bank. I don't know why people think this would stop if the hostages were released.

I know they do but more people would turn against him if he carried on with the attacks even after the hostages had been returned.

Some people on here have questioned why there has not been more of a world outcry against what is happening. I think they may lack an understanding of how shocked the world was by the events of October 7th. There are people on this thread who will not acknowledge how awful that event was & a backlash when I suggested a PP should include Fuck Hamas along with Fuck Netanyahu and Trump. But while Hamas continue to behave as they do (including the horrible way that they returned Israeli hostages both dead & alive) it appears to neutral outsiders that there is blame on both sides.
