@statsfun

Back in 2024: "Jared Kushner has praised the “very valuable” potential of Gaza’s “waterfront property” and suggested Israel should remove civilians while it “cleans up” the strip...“It’s a little bit of an unfortunate situation there, but from Israel’s perspective I would do my best to move the people out and then clean it up,” Kushner said.

And here is Trump trying to do just what his son in law stated openly. He's a real estate developer after all.

Jared Kushner says Gaza’s ‘waterfront property could be very valuable’ | Jared Kushner | The Guardian

Jared Kushner says Gaza’s ‘waterfront property could be very valuable’

Donald Trump’s son-in-law also says Israel should bulldoze an area of the Negev desert and move Palestinians there

and some land ready for the beachside apartments..

Hmm, 25 miles of beach front.

Compared to 372 miles of beach front in the Sinai peninsula, on 2 different seas (the Med and the Red Sea) and with much nicer dive resorts.

Remind me why Israel want Gaza so much more than they wanted Sinai again?

letsallchant · 26/01/2025 17:00

Just thinking back to all the folk saying pre election that they simply couldn't vote for either Biden the genocide supporter or Harris as his sidekick in office, cos their moral code would not be persuaded that either were better than Trump. 'They're all the same!' OK.

GildedRage · 26/01/2025 17:02

well he also want's canada, greenland and the panama canal.
so clearing out 2.4 million people temporarily to indonesia while the area is redeveloped sounds easy.

This was almost a year ago.. almost as if he could see into the future and predict what Trump was going to say ! With the same talk about “cleaning up” 🙄

The prospect of a never ending war with Egypt and enormous international pressure at the time on Israel to accept the deal is hardly the same situation as with Gaza.

You think there isn't a never-ending war with Palestinian militia and enormous international pressure?!?

Yeah, if you read that article Jared Kushner also says he would "just bulldoze something in the Negev"

I'm not sure anyone should be taking this guy very seriously. No matter who he's married to.

Perhaps you should familiarize yourself with the Security Council Resolution 242 backed by the Lyndon administration to urge Israel to withdraw from Sinai, You equate this with Biden's unconditional support for Israel with Gaza and the billions of dollars worth of arms every few months? It appears to be a waste of time engaging with you, since even Kushner's own words are undermining your argument.

🙄

MissyB1 · 26/01/2025 17:33

Sadly this wouldn't surprise me at all, it's fairly clear neither America or Israel see Palestinians as human beings with a right to their own land.

VolcanoJapan · 26/01/2025 14:03

I agree they won't want Palestinian refugees. The last time in ended badly for Jordan, with them having to deal with the problems. They want to have a repeat by allowing people which Will include terrorists and supporters of terrorists into their relatively stable countries.

Do you believe Palestinians are inherently violent?

DeepFatFried · 26/01/2025 17:42

So the man who is determined to stop each and every immigrant into his own country expects a selection of other countries to open their borders to ‘cleared out’ Palestinians?

Sadly, the rich Arab states see Palestinians in the same way - much as many in the UK see Irish travellers and Roma.
I am SMH at Trump expecting neighbouring countries to take them in, while simultaneously deporting migrants from the USA.

The history and the security situation were also vastly different. I don't think anyone thinks that a 2SS is possible at this point in time, which would be the equivalent.

So there isn't going to be a UN resolution passed for it. But there was 2728 regarding a ceasefire. There's huge, ongoing pressure on Israel.

How do Kushner's words undermine me? He talks about moving people out in order to rebuild... he seems to think it would be temporary, and it's pretty obvious that he's thinking from a property developer viewpoint rather than anything more serious. But most importantly he shows himself to be completely clueless, and just throwing out some off the cuff ideas. Do you think he even knows that the Negev is a desert? Why do you care about some random spouting nonsense? It isn't meaningful just because he's Trump's SIL.

Exactly and Sadat of Egypt ultimately paid the price by being assassinated in 1981:
"The assassination was undertaken by members of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad. Although the motive has been debated, Sadat's assassination likely stemmed from Islamists who opposed Sadat's peace initiative with Israel and the United States relating to the Camp David Accords."

Ordinary Egyptians today still talk about and apologise for Sadat's actions.
Egypt is also currently in a precarious situation and easily destabilised. The Muslim brotherhood is on the move again and factions involved in the recent Syrian overthrow of Assad have been making moves in Egypt. With a population that is unhappy with Sisi for not doing enough for Palestine, it wouldn't take much to execute a regime change.

mids2019 · 26/01/2025 12:17

I don't think it's the worst suggestion as it would lead to increased peace and security in the region. Having Palestinians under different authority would stop organisations like Hamas taking hols with their murderous ideology. If enough can be offered to Egypt and Jordan maybe they would acquiesce?

If Hamas remain in charge and there is no country willing to invest in Gazan reconstruction then maybe this is the only realistic option?
I

If Hamas remain in charge then there seems to be only the path of eventual war again and that why Trump has given Israel the 2000 pound bombs.....

Really? Does forcibly removing people sound like it can be done peacefully?

I don't even think it will bring safety to Israel which is what you seem to mean by "the region"

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 26/01/2025 18:00

It's outrageous. Then, they would suggest it, since they're saying it about plenty of other places.

IdaGlossop · 26/01/2025 18:09

Trump thinks he's World King now and that the world is his chess board. Canada and Greenland: mine; tidy up the map. Make Israel bigger: easy; sprinkle the Palestinians around the Middle East.it's scary that two toddlers - Trump and Putin - have so much power.

Echobelly · 26/01/2025 18:13

I think it's an idea rather than intention, but even that is pretty bad news. Trump has no understanding at all of the situation in Israel/Palestine and is not going to do anything positive about it.

Dulra · 26/01/2025 18:25

I don't think anyone should underestimate Trump. I read an article today about his phone call last week with the Danish prime minister Mette Frederiksen, the phone call was described as horrendous,

"Trump was said to be aggressive and confrontational in his attempt to take over the island. Before, it was hard to take seriously, but I do think it is serious and potentially very dangerous.
Trump was reported to have threatened Denmark, a Nato ally, with targeted tariffs, essentially taxes on Danish exports to the US"

He says things to shock and then sees how much he can get away with. Whose to know what threats he can use to try and get what he wants in the region.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 26/01/2025 18:30

Also he often suggests an outrageous idea as a way to get away with an idea which is less outrageous but still terrible.

Dulra · 26/01/2025 18:33

@statsfun Why do you care about some random spouting nonsense? It isn't meaningful just because he's Trump's SIL.
He's more than just some random and Trumps son in law he was a senior advisor to Trump when he was last president. He was: "the primary Trump administration participant for the Middle East Peace Process, authoring the Trump Peace Plan and facilitating the talks that led to the signing of the Abraham Accords".
