Hillel Nueur, International human rights lawyer, writer, Executive Director of United Nations Watch writes: 'Never before in history has a side claimed that they suffered a genocide and at the same time that they won the war they had started.'

If you read only a handful of messages on social media today and watch the news, people in Gaza are celebrating and Hamas state they will continue (their barbarity) until Israel is eradicated. I won't repost these as anyone can find them easily.

This charming woman Daniella Weiss has been around for a long time, telling how she strategically planned settlements in order to make a two state plan impossible. Here she is, only a few months ago saying that the Palestinians will disappear "to other countries around the world".

‘The Arabs will disappear’: emboldened Israeli settlers eye return to Gaza

Once dismissed as the pipe dream of fringe extremists, the idea of resettling Gaza has gained momentum

Please show us where Hamas has agreed to a two state solution?

It's confusing. The revised charter they'll accept a state with the 1967 borders, but it didn't at any point get amended to recognise Israeli statehood. So make of that what you will.

argyllherewecome · 19/01/2025 19:59

The Palestine Liberation Organization has accepted the concept of a two-state solution since the 1982 Arab Summit. In 2017, Hamas announced their revised charter, which claims to accept the idea of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, but without recognising the statehood of Israel

I just copied this very quickly from wiki, you can look into the links.

So they have accepted a two state solution. There is no need to accept legitimacy of any occupying force, they are two separate issues. In fact it's a massive compromise on their side to agree to the former. There's nothing confusing about it. I might accept that you forced me out of my house, but I will never accept that it is legitimately yours.

'Death to Arabs' gets chanted a fair amount also. Nobody should be chanting or singing songs about killing people.

NoisyBear · 19/01/2025 20:03

OpheliaWasntMad · 19/01/2025 19:41

I think the online propaganda has been very successful for Hamas. There are people in the UK who have been brainwashed and need to be de- radicalised.
I hope there is fairness and equality in Israel and Gaza. It will never be achieved unless Hamas is removed.

Edited

If you think proganda is strong on the pro Palestinian side do you think propaganda is strong in pro Israeli people too? I have to say my eyes roll to the back of my head when the script gets rolled out, there is no apartheid, Gaza could be thriving if only the didn't put hatred in front of development. Always things that can be easily googled and disproved but it still gets trotted out like some kind of weird gotcha moment. Until I watched Israelism I was properly puzzled by it.

Agreed

Where's the outrage that Jewish terrorists are setting Palestinian homes on fire right now?

People are too busy being outraged by the words of Palestinians to care about the actions of Israelis I'm afraid.

Palestine have agreed to the two state solution, it was right wing Israel who have repeatedly blocked and strategically blocked it. I think there is the outward acceptance that Israel exists, but the wounds that have resulted are so deep. It's up to Israel to make amends.
@OpheliaWasntMad I don't think people have been brainwashed, unless you think that means they have been fed lies to cover the actual truth? Israel's atrocities towards the Palestinian people has been amplified greatly in the last year, and yes many people have finally come to the realization of the truth. Israel have historically worked very hard to deflect any attention away from their harms and wrongdoings, but in this social media filled world that is much harder to do.

When did Hamas agree to two states? What significant 2 state proposals have Israel repeatedly blocked?

As a pp has said the last charter is ambiguous and does not give up the concept of Palestine from the river to the sea. Summary here https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_Hamas_charter

And they have done nothing to clarify that ambiguity.

Why is it up to Israel to make amends when they have been repeatedly attacked, by terrorists internally and by external attacks? Surely all sides have amends to make?

No arrests as usual. The IDF as usual turning a blind eye when it's the Palestinians under attack. Dare they fight back and they'll be shot in the head.

Obviously there is propaganda on both sides.
But you’d need to be completely hooked by Hamas propaganda to not understand that they are bad for Palestinians/ Israelis and the region in general.
They are not the way to peace or to a fair and equal society in Gaza.

The PP blamed Israel for Hamas . I blame Iran ( and Islamist mindsets) for Hamas.
I do think the Israeli government/ IDF is guilty of some wrong doing and I hope there is a proper enquiry and the right people are held accountable for any war crimes.

ArtTheClown · 19/01/2025 19:45

Yes but not as israel is now they have expanded their territory dramatically ! All
Illegal settlements should be removed .

Do you think the Palestinian side would agree to a two-state solution, and be content for Israel to continue to exist?

Do you think the israeli side would ? Both sides need a solution and a compromise . Keeping palestinians as second class citizens with extreme
Surveillance and next to no rights in the name of "safety" does nothing to fix the issues .

It is 100% up to Israel to make amends because they are the aggressor, and as recognized by international law illegally occupying land and properties and committing horrendous crimes including murder, with impunity. Hopefully that will change. If you read the article and link you will see it yourself.
It doesn't matter how many times posters try to deflect back onto the harms allegedly caused by Hamas, and display faux concern for Palestinians, the main point is that Israel needs to stop defying international laws and behaving like the civil state that is purports to be.

ArtTheClown · 19/01/2025 20:21

Do you think after 7 October, particularly, plus the various terrorist attacks over the years, that Israel may have ongoing security concerns as well though?

Oh OK. I never see people say that Hamas are good for Palestinians, certainly not on mumsnet. I'm sure some people do somewhere but not in the circles I move in anyway and I'm not really on any social media other than Instagram where I look at pretty houses and cats. Israeli propaganda is rife on mumsnet which made me so confused at first. It can be like an stepping into an alternate reality trying to have a conversation here sometimes, I couldn't understand why people were stating the same easily disproved things as facts over and over again.

I was responding to a pp who said ..
“To all of you going on about de radicalisation and other bullshit rhetoric . Who do you think is the biggest recruiter for hamas ? Do you think hamas would be able to recruit people that lived in an equal and fair society ? Israel's occupation and apartheid state is by far the biggest recruiter of hamas .”

The suggestion above is that Hamas is an inevitable response to Israeli injustices. I don’t agree. I think that’s propaganda. Hamas is funded by Iran. There are many other Islamist groups throughout Middle East and Africa. Israel is not responsible for Hamas - but it is threatened by Hamas.

I don’t agree with the excess Israeli response to October 7th. I think it caused too much suffering to too many innocent people. Unfortunately, As Hamas correctly anticipated- it has also damaged Israel’s standing.

Israel has only ever acted defensively...they would like to live in peace...the borders and restrictions are there to keep Israeli's ( Arab/ Jewish and Christian) safe. When you have suicide bombers coming over your borders and blowing up buses and restaurants what are they supposed to do? Have you ever heard of a Jewish suicide bomber? This hate is generally all one way....there were many peace initiatives that held a lot of hope before Oct last year. It's going to take years to get back to that place.

immigrant101 · 19/01/2025 20:43

@OpheliaWasntMad i did not say that at all . What i said was that the actions of israel since October 7 particularly made it much easier for hamas to recruit . Plenty of people
That lost everything and are only seeking revenge. How can you not see that?
The only thing this war achieved is increasing the likelihood this cycle will keep happening unless something drastically changes. I can't wait until Western journalists and UN aid workers and investigators come into the region and investigate everything. We'll finally have solid on the ground assessment of the food shortage and we can examine how much of the population has been maimed or starved and what's happened to the size of the population.
I've been alive from the age of the Oslo Accords to the age of Netanyahu. Gen Z didn't even see the Oslo Accords. They've only seen the age of Netanyahu. The image of Israel is in the trash. The attempts to protect with charges of antisemitism has hollowed out defenses against antisemitism by making the charge meaningless and as a result allowing real antisemitism to fester without real defenses.

immigrant101 · 19/01/2025 20:47

I think you’ll fine the use of dumb bombs by the Israeli army far more lethal than suicide bombers. Have you seen the images of how the Israeli army has left Gaza?

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/jan/18/a-visual-guide-to-the-destruction-of-gaza

Comments by the right wing coalition clearly shows that Israel has not acted only defensively. Their hatred for Palestinians is clear. These are elected officials.
