Hamas and Gaza celebrates

Hillel Nueur, International human rights lawyer, writer, Executive Director of United Nations Watch writes: 'Never before in history has a side claimed that they suffered a genocide and at the same time that they won the war they had started.'

If you read only a handful of messages on social media today and watch the news, people in Gaza are celebrating and Hamas state they will continue (their barbarity) until Israel is eradicated. I won't repost these as anyone can find them easily.

“The target is to get between 500 and 600 trucks in per day over the coming weeks,” said Dr Rik Peeperkorn, WHO representative in the occupied Palestinian territories (OPT).

This would represent “a huge increase” from the 40 to 50 lorries reaching Gaza in recent months and be similar to the level of aid reaching Gaza before war erupted on 7 October 2023, drastically reducing relief deliveries.

This is what the UN are aiming for, massive increase from what has been getting through. I have full trust in the UN managing this challenging humanitarian operation well.

Gaza ceasefire could boost aid deliveries to 600 trucks per day: WHO

Amid reports that Israel’s security cabinet has given the green light to a ceasefire deal with Hamas, the UN World Health Organization (WHO) expressed cautious optimism on Friday over the potentially major boost to aid relief in the devastated enclave.

Only if the Hamas threat wasn't dealt with. Thats obviously true - Hamas's stated intention is to destroy Israel.

Many posters on this and other threads either don't know, are misremebering or have their heads in the sand. They should read the Hamas charter, last updated in 2017 where their clear and stated aim is the eradication of the 'Zionist State' aka Israel and that Palestine will take its place with Jerusalem its capital.

Unlimited aid would be chaos - aid agencies will know what level of aid can be managed. Unlimited aid could not be supervised. Hamas would steal the aid (as they have a strong track recird of doing), it would be looted, which has been a problem throughout, and it would not be distributed in an orderly manner. Have we firgotten what sort of organisation Hamas is, how many armed gangs there are in gaza? Im sure the idea come from a place meaning well but ask anyone with experience of humanitarian aid and it has to be managed.

It should be up to the aid agencies not Israel to decide how much aid goes in. Aid workers are professionals, they would be able to manage it without Israel putting arbitrary limits. If the want 700 one day, 850 the next and 500 the next they should be able to do that. Of course people with experience if humanitarian aid know that it has to be managed and they have also critised Israels arbitrary limits on what they can do. If you acknowledge that aid agencies know best then you must acknowledge that Israel are wrong to put limits on what they can and can't do.

argyllherewecome · 19/01/2025 14:36

Before Israel, Palestine and Jordan were formed, there was British Transjordan. There had never been a sovereign Palestinian state to “steal”. The existence of Israel is no more a theft of Palestinian land than the existence of Jordan is! None of them was a sovereign nation

This land was home to many people, who were forced off it, killed, tortured, sexually abused and imprisoned. Land was stolen, confiscated and its people were illegally displaced and continue to be until this very day. Please, please, don't dehumanize millions of people, by making this simply about land borders.

I'm not sure how anyone who was posting in between the posts could have missed it. It was said over and over again that a Palestinian state would be an existential threat to Israel.

Which is absolutely true if Hamas or any of the other terrorist groups re-control the area.
This is extremely obvious.

The 7th October was not the evil deeds of a few bad individuals, it took a collective endeavour by thousands of ordinary people... in the hatred of Jews.
Don't agree. Don't equate innocent civilians and children with Hamas

Where on earth have all the 1000s and 1000s of Hamas soldiers come from then?
People defend the actions of Palestine by saying the elections were years ago, but most of the Hamas fighters I have seen have been young men. They are indoctrinated since birth and until there is complete deradicalisation, the hate will still be there and Palestinians will suffer from a government who hates Jews more than it cares about it own people.

This is extremely obvious.

And given that Hamas is a proscribed terrorist organisation in this country precisely because of this, noone should be deleted on here for saying it.

Am not at all surprised sadly. Hamas and their followers and supporters have made no secret of their aim to eradicate Israel and kill all Jews.

The hostage handover scenes were a hard watch as well, but at least they are home safe now.

Awful. Also the footage showing crowds surrounding the vehicles carrying the hostages and jeering at them.

I expect nothing better from them. Same as their rejoicing over the hostages when they were taken into Gaza on 7/10/23.

If you were born under occupation into an extremely restricted life due to collective punishment by Israel and had endured Israeli bombardments throughout your lifetime would you need to be indoctrinated to not like Israelis? I say Israelis because I have noticed that in the same way Israelis call Palestinians 'Arabs', Palestinians call Israelis 'Jews'.

The hostage handover scenes were a hard watch as well, but at least they are home safe now.

I am so relieved they are home, but look at what Romi, Emily and Doron endured at the handover. I felt physically sick.

Rushdi Abualouf, Gaza correspondence in Istanbul, said, ' Hamas aimed to assert its dominance in Gaza today, sending a clear message that it is the ruling authority and will determine the post-war reality.

The scene in Al-Saraya Square in Gaza City symbolised the next phase.
It served as an internal message to opposition groups in Gaza, who have voiced anger over the widespread destruction of homes and infrastructure.

The display of weapons was meant to rally supporters while warning opponents of the potential consequences of challenging Hamas’s rule.

It was also a message to Hamas’s long-standing rival, the Fatah movement, which has plans to re-enter Gaza through border crossings or reconstruction efforts:

Gaza remains firmly under Hamas’s control'.

Hamas and Fatah, how are the two groups different? It is an old article but still an interesting read.

@SharonEllis And have we forgotten the IDF murdering many of those guarding aid convoys including the British ex-soldiers? With the threat of IDF reined in maybe order will be a bit easier to implement.

Are you unaware of the rockets fired at Israel? The death toll is only lower because of the Iron Dome and defence systems.

Israel has been out of Gaza for decades, yet gives them aid money, free electricity, free water etc.
Your anger is misplaced. Perhaps you should be marching to get rid of Hamas and stopping the Anti-semitism.

Instead of using water pipes for missiles, destroying agricultural land and basically running the country into the ground whilst they live in mansions.
Spending billions of aid money on themselves and bombing Israel rather than building power stations, exploiting their aquifiers, feeding their people etc.

Perhaps then the Palestinians will stand a chance. At the moment all that is going happen is Palestinians are going back to the same old shit whilst still blaming Israel for all its woes.

I have been both in Israel and Palestine. In both Hebrew and Arabic they refer to both themselves and each other as "Jews" and "Arabs". Within Israel there are many Israeli non Jews and many Jews who aren't Israeli (culturally or by birth). People on here tie themselves up in knots to keep saying "Israelis" when we should just say Jews, because it is more factually correct.

And to the PP, do you really think the indoctrination is one sided? There are plenty of jews who grew up in Israel (and outside) who have spoken online about their childhood experiences , how they were taught that 'Arabs' were animals, had no soul, were backward, ate their own faeces, couldn't read or write and so on. So I don't think it's fair to say the Palestinians are indoctrinated, they are just passing on the account of oppressive events.

You are surprised that people are celebrating not having bombs drop on their heads every hour ? How delusional are u really ? Put yourselves in their shoes wouldn't you be celebrating too ? What will continuing this madness achieve ?

I think empathy in this thread is only one way.
I cannot even comprehend how Gazans have suffered for 15 months.
Imagine thinking you could die any minute every time you hear a plane/drone.
It is beyond belief.

That's rather wishful thinking. The scenes in Al-Saraya Square in Gaza City symbolised the next phase. Hamas will assert its authority in Gaza through force, threats and intimidation. They are the ruling authority and will determine the post-war reality at the expense of ordinary Palestinian civilians.

I'm not angry and I not interested in nonsense that pretends Israel haven't still been controlling the Gaza strip and they should be grateful for Israel. They have repeatedly built infrastructure within the confines of an illegal blockade and Israel have repeatedly targeted it and bombed it.

I'm not sure if you are being ironic by talking about indoctrination in one post and then repeating the pro Israel script that makes Palestinians out to be a feckless lot in the next?

Definitely a worry as according to Blinken Israel's actions over the past year has been a very effective recruitment drive for Hamas.
