Discussing this with friends
I'm quite appauled that it took the death of 50000 civilians (mostly children) before a warrant was issued.

When will the arrest warrant for tony Blair be issued???

A friend said that this is war and to get over it. Aibu in thinking the arrest was correct?

I know families wiped out. And refugee camps set on fire. I mean it has been going on for over the last 75 years.
I'm so glad that Warner brothers are going to release a movie about the nakba.
Found it really sick that netflix deleted their movie of the Palestinian who saw all her family die before her eyes and her house get occupied.

I think the coverage of the Christian palestians has been utterly shambolic.

The orthodox Jews have separated themselves from netanyahu and say what he is doing is wrong.

All news outlets in Palestine removed by Israel.
Israel has controlled their water supply amongst other things for years.

Another friend said "what if the European pagans just came to UK and said that this is their land and they want it back and then they remove all of us to Devon and then try and take Devon"

Anyway isn't he facing criminal charges for corruption in Israel? Has all of that been forgotten now.

OK but factual history doesn’t trump an ancient book.

Where do you think Jews come from out of interest?

As Jews and servants of G-D, we shouldn't get to pick and chose which bits to observe. One of the core tenants of Judaism is that we are in exile, forbidden from creating our own state. That's non-negotiable, it's a divinely-decreed fact. Whether we like it or not. To claim otherwise, to claim the Torah and G-D got this "wrong" or someone "we know better" is self-serving arrogance.
As Jews, we should humbly submit to the will of G-D.

I believe that there should be a two state solution, the Palestinians are also indigenous to the land and have just as much right to it. If anyone wants to see the endless cycle of violence end, they would support it too.

I agree there should be a two state solution.

Sadly no one with power to make that happen would agree. And at this stage there’s no trust in either side that the other side will deliver

Your optimism is sweet. What Israel is doing will create a whole new generation of vengeful terrorists. This will definitely not be ‘over and done with forever’ because of Netanyahu’s killing sprees.

I agree.
Unfortunately innocent Israelis , ones who probably haven't even been born yet, will feel the consequences of Netanyahus actions. Both sides seem determined to drip hatred and murder for each other down through the generations. They want the other side dead more than they want their own children alive.

Why not? He has been personally invited to Hungary, he also has the full backing of the US.

I still don’t think he will take risks. Who knows. He probably will pop to hr US and share a bed with Trump come January

With respect, from what I understand (DH’s dad’s side is Jewish, although FIL married a Christian MIL and was never observant, so I’m going off what I know of his heritage) that’s a very Orthodox viewpoint - ie that the Torah should never be wavered from. Most Jewish people in this day and age are Zionists, and have good reason to be. Not all Jewish people observe your viewpoint

DH has distant relatives living in Israel and I have worked with our Israeli branch at work. I don’t know one who supports Netenyahu and they are all in some way disgusted at the actions of their government.

The point I'm making is that Israel, it's criminal leaders and those who aid and abet the zionist regime are choosing to remove themselves from the core parts of Judaism, whilst claiming to be acting on behalf of "the Jewish people". Their departure from Judaism is tragic, given that they claim to be acting in the best interest of global Jewry, somehow defending "all" Jews. This is simply untrue. There is nothing Jewish about their modus operandi or genocidal actions.
What I'm trying to explain (forgive me if not clear, English isn't my first language :) is that these people try to use Judaism as a cloak to hide behind.

The chief prosecutor requested these (Netanyahu and Dief, and also former Israeli Minister of Defence Yoav Gallant) in May. This is apparently how long it takes. Dief was alive when the request was made (he died in August) but someone should have yanked the warrant.

It took over a year to get the one for Putin - thirteen months since the full-on invasion of Ukraine, and NINE years after the occupation of Crimea. Nothing will happen unless or until the individuals accused either (1) turn themselves in to the court voluntarily or (2) travel to an ICC member/Rome Statute signatory country or one with a separate ICC cooperation agreement. In some cases former military and political leaders have been arrested in their own countries and transferred, but those were signatory countries (Croatia, Serbia, BiH).

Biden said the issuance of arrest warrants against the Israeli leaders is "outrageous" and there must be no equivalence between Hamas and the Israeli government. It shouldn't be a question of equivalence; each case is decided on its own merits.

He has been personally invited to Hungary, he also has the full backing of the US. Technically Hungary would be obliged to detain him. (I'm sure Orbán would prefer to pull out of the ICC but the EU requires them to cooperate anyway.) USA is OK. And Switzerland. Also most of the ME, except Jordan and (ironically) Palestine.

Yeah, there are still 3 (I think) criminal cases against Bibi "live" in the Israeli court system; they're taking forever because of various procedural issues.

Sunflowersinwinter · 22/11/2024 16:53

but someone should have yanked the warrant.

I read it was because whilst there is a high possibility that Deif was killed it hasn't been 100% confirmed unlike Sinwar.

Shhhthedogssleeping · 22/11/2024 17:09

Im am atheist Jew from an Orthodox Family (my parents were culturally Jewish only ) but my late DPs quite observant. I don’t think there’s an answer to this conflict that will be acceptable to either Jews or Palestinians. Palestine doesn’t want Jews to exist and will repeat 7 Oct until they expunge Jews. Jews feel they have an ancient and legal right to live there and have defended themselves fiercely from the outset at any attempt to share their homeland with any other group. It’s a war of attrition and I can’t see it ending.

Oh my, you really do not represent the voice of the Jewish community.

what an extreme view.

95% of British Jews are Zionist’s who believe in Israel’s fundamental right to exist as a Jewish state.

These obscure views are by far in the small minority….

When the ICC turns a blind eye to the genocide of the Kurds by Erdogan, the genocide of the Uyghurs in China, ignores the political/religious mass murders in Iran and Yemen and Sudan, and then only issues arrest warrants against Israeli leaders and a dead hamass terrorist but ignore the live ones living in Turkey then they have lost any legitimacy.

You need to read up on how the ICC works. You clearly don't know if you are repeating this.

This 95% stat has been repeated a few times on this thread but I don't find any source for that. Do you have one? Every stat I can find is between 52 -63% .
