Precision strike on a terrorist.
Compare with what he was responsible for on October 7th, indiscriminate murder, torture and kidnap of civilians, I guess he's in a hot place now.

EasterIssland · 31/07/2024 06:56

Will they stop bombing now in Gaza taking into account they know how to kill precisely in other countries but not in Gaza ??

Efacsen · 31/07/2024 07:31

One less murderous psychopath in this world now

This was always likely to be Hanieyah's fate but what will happen to the hostage /ceasefire negotiations as he was the chief negotiator for Hamas?

Kriscross · 31/07/2024 07:44

A strike on a single terrorist tracked down and likely using intelligence from his movements he made country to country. That's the best way to get the leaders.

The day to day soldiers of unknown identity on the ground is much harder. I still want a ceasefire to stop the killing of children though. A recent story came out of a woman who was kept by a teacher and lawyer, ordinary civilians who were hamas members. Many other captives stayed with families. Hamas is very ingrained in society in Gaza. Still I want a ceasefire though a s negotiations.

This will mean Iran or hezbollah who sheltered the terrorist leader will take more action since they support terrorists

The problem in Palestine is they LIVE and build their bunkers under flats. Deliberately. There’s literally entire articles by places like Chatham house about why they do this - precisely so Israel has no choice. It’s why they’ve survived as long as they have.

The negotiations are over, he was the chief negotiator.

The Americans will try to tell Bibi to accept the ceasefire deal now that he has a "victory".

Israel would not and could not have done this without American agreement.

It happened in Tehran, so the IRGC will have to respond as Haniyeh was their guest.

So yesterday there were successful/attempted assassinations in Lebanon, Iraq and Iran.

Kriscross · 31/07/2024 07:55

If they accept the ceasefire deal because as intimated they have 'victory' then it could mean some progress towards peace. Sinwar is still out and about

Dulra · 31/07/2024 07:58

The Hamas leader is dead, time to leave the innocent Palestinians alone to rebuild, ceasefire needs to be called for now

Perhaps naively imagined that Israel would keep their finger off the trigger until the surviving hostages were released - maybe his trip to Iran was too good a chance to miss

Not convinced that Biden has enough influence on Netanyahu to bring about a ceasefire - hope I'm wrong

So always an excuse to keep obliterating Gaza and killing, maiming, starving innocent children! Seriously listen to yourself.

He wasn't the military leader. Sinwar is alive and in charge in gaza.

I hope a ceasefire but sinwar needs stopping

but sinwar needs stopping

Yes he does and it looks like tactics used on Ismail Haniyeh were effective and precise, the operation in Gaza has not been so that needs to end

But the ceasefire talks are in extreme jeopardy now - due to this action

Hanieyah as well as being the chief negotiator was the link between Hamas in Qatar and Sinwar in Gaza

Seems like a ceasefire may be further away today

BeretInParis · 31/07/2024 08:21

Good. Couldn't have happened to a nicer terrorist.

Nope, thr Bibi of today is not the Bibi of yesterday.

Old Bibi would not have allowed the Israeli image to be tainted in public by his actions in Gaza and the region, he knew the importance of public perception and plausible deniability.

This new Bibi is fighting for his own personal survival, everyone including the hostages be damned.

If he signs a peace deal, he loses support/power. All these public displays are to project "power". Also if the response includes rockets in Tel Aviv and Haifa, he can say "look they're attacking us, first comes Israel then you (America)". Just like he did in congress last week. Which also speaks to Bidens power, you saw congress clapping like seals last week, he has none. Israel is a strategic asset and there are too many people in his administration who dream of war with Iran.

They'll be no more negotiations for a while, which is terrible for the people of Gaza and the hostages.

Still a terrorist leader of a group who planned the oct 7th attack on Gaza over a 2 year period leading to the current conflict with thousands and thousands of deaths. All totally unnecessary if oct 7th didn't occur.

He deserves no special treatment, mo tears.

Allegedly Sinwar not Hanieyah involved in planning the 7 Oct attacks

But what about the hostages welfare now?

And Hamas are innocent of using human shields whilst attacking innocents and provoking Israel who had two choices to ignore it and allow more attacks or fight back and be condemned either way a win for Hamas who don't care about innocent lives

DownNative · 31/07/2024 09:34

One or two quick thoughts for now.

Has the West Belfast Mental Health Team checked in on a certain Mr Adams this morning?! 😉 👇

This strike is a humiliation for Iran. Note other key Hamas figures in Qatar and Turkey are much safer as Israel will not attack there in any form for the foreseeable.

As I've said before, the key is the Hamas leadership INSIDE Gaza. Not the one outside of it. He won't give up, but Sinwar's days are numbered.....🤷‍♂️
