Conflict in the Middle East

Apologies @Humdingerydoo it is actually @keenforhelp who feels that your original statement was wrong. Perhaps she would like to report your post and have that deleted too?

It's presumably because you took my words and then twisted them to make it sound as though this is how all Jews celebrate, despite me saying it was the equivalent of EDL? At least that's what I'm getting from the post you quoted.

At no point did I say ALL Jews, I pretty much said as you said.

And apparently "pretty much" wasn't quite good enough.

Anyway, I really don't know what you said so this is an even more pointless discussion than all the other ones we're having.

PearlKoala · 05/06/2024 20:35

Humdingerydoo · 05/06/2024 20:21

You said I'm lying about my true opinions on settlers. If you're going to make an outrageous accusation then at least be brave enough to either stand by it or apologise for it, or at least retract it.

My point with regards to the marches was people should believe Jews. You have taken that to mean I secretly like the settlers. That's an incredibly messed up message to have taken from my words.

I repeat: If you don't feel that settlers are the same as London protesters then you probably shouldn't compare the two then be outraged when people take you at your word that you feel the two are the same.

TakeMe2Insanity · 05/06/2024 20:38

Humdingerydoo · 05/06/2024 20:27

I mean, I obviously won't. It's an outrageous thing to ask 'anyone' to do.

More out of irritation to the non inflammatory post.

You said “Jews celebrated” - obviously they would have to be Jewish.

Settlers - can settlers be not Jewish? And from my understanding they can be dual national.

Israelis - you can be Israeli and not Jewish.

The pp was keen to point out that these people on their parade were Israeli. They would literally have to be Jewish to be on that parade and not necessarily Israeli.

I’m assuming here the 1000 or so marching through a tight area weren’t the left wing Israeli Jewish population. Nor would I assume it would be the non Jewish Israeli population.

As I've said, I wasn't discussing the protests. I was discussing how people don't believe Jews when they say the protests intimidate and terrify them. That they don't feel safe near them. As always, you've taken my words and changed them into something else to suit your preferred narrative and as a result you end up attacking me for things I haven't said and accusing me of having opinions I don't have.

I look forward to you apologising for your accusations once you've gone back over my comments and seen what I've actually said. Alternatively, save yourself the hassle by just believing the words I'm saying? No part of me is supportive of violent or illegal settlers or today's march. I believe I even called the march gross at one point on this thread.

Why on earth should I be expected to just let people say whatever bullshit they want without challenging it? Surely I'm allowed to point out the hypocrisy of so many on this thread?

I hope you also believe it's genocidal intent when your "ceasefire now" marchers call for globalising the intifada, Jihad and "all resistance is justified". Otherwise you're being hypocritical. Which has been my only point in this regard. Because I think today's march was beyond disgraceful and shouldn't have been allowed to go ahead. I have absolutely no problem with acknowledging that. What about you and the ceasefire marches? Are you able to say the same, or even vaguely similar, about them?

You said yourself- I wasn't going to compare the two on here because I didn't want to come across as though I was trying to deflect or minimise but some of the posts on here are absolutely outrageous in their blatant hypocrisy which needs to be called out.

It did come across exactly as you thought it would, you can hardly blame people for pulling you up on it. Perhaps choose your comparisons more wisely in future, especially when nobody on this thread said that they didn't believe Jews, you decided to bring that up out of nowhere which does make it seem like you were trying to deflect.

I'm glad you have clarified your thoughts in settlers.

I can blame you for not bothering to read any of the previous posts.

My comparison was perfectly fine. No need to make any different choices. I'd make the same one again.

I'm assuming you haven't been on this board very long as you seem to have missed all the threads where posters, many present on this very thread, have said the weekly marches are not problematic and Jews are perfectly safe.

I didn't clarify my thoughts, I just repeated what I'd already said as you were apparently incapable of going back and reading.

Looking forward to my apology. I'm assuming it won't be long now!

I'm assuming you haven't been on mumsnet very long if you feel it is appropriate to drag other threads over to this one. It is derailing and it is deflecting to do that. I'm going to stop responding to you now because you seem intent on pulling the focus away from settlers and their abhorrent behaviour which is what this thread is about.

@Auvergne63 So glad you agree that telling somebody that they have made anti-Semitic comments is a serious accusation.

It is.

And MN agreed.

I was very worried about the comment - imagine if I had have said - and this is how Muslims celebrated X. The poster has conflated a national day with ALL Jews. It is anti-Semitic to say this as it suggests ALL Jews and not the Israelis here.

If you read the full thread you'd see my comments were not derailing but in direct response to other posters. I of course realise that would require a bit of effort on your part so obviously don't actually expect you to do so. Why bother with facts when you already have a solid opinion, right?

No need to pull focus away from today's march as I also found it abhorrent.

I guess I'll never get my apology though. That's surprising.

I note Ben Gvir has added icing to his parade cake by suggesting the war in Gaza (aka collective punishment) extend to Lebanon. Can someone not lock him up?

@Humdingerydoo re this

I'm not sure what you want me to do or say? I obviously can't tell you what someone else meant. We're different people.

And with regards to your Lebanon post - Hezbollah started firing at Israel from Lebanon on October 8th. You surely must have already been aware of that? It's been constant ever since.

I'd be happy to have him locked up though, he's not exactly my favourite person in the world.

Do you do the same things when people post links from pro-Hamas twitter accounts?

Being aware of bias is important. Also differentiating between pro- Hamas and pro-Palestinian.
I find photos speak a thousand words. Difficult to misinterpret photos coming out of Gaza.
If IDF would stop killing journalists and let in independent ones, we wouldn’t only need to rely on Gazans posting.
Photos from 7/10 also tell a horrific story.

@TakeMe2Insanity What???

What @Humdingerydoo said was perfectly fine and correct. You did not directly quote him/her as it would not have been deleted otherwise. Was his/her original statement deleted?

No.

@Humdingerydoo I said that Christians and Muslims in Jerusalem must be absolutely terrified, and you said they would be as terrified as Jewish people in London are by marches for a ceasefire. I have no idea if this is true, and I suppose you are speaking of Jewish people you know and have some way to measure their fear against the non-Jewish population in Jerusalem today. And you judge it equal.

I am not a person who marches, but I'm aware that:
a)They do not carry guns
b) They are not illegally occupying the UK
c) Jewish people in the UK do not live under occupation and have the full rights of citizens. This would include not having their children removed in the dead of night. Their position in the UK is reasonably protected by civil and human rights. This is not the case for Palestinians living under occupation.
d) Jewish people are not being evicted from their homes and replaced by pro-Palestinian marchers.

I'm sure there are other differences between pro-Palestinian marchers and Israeli settlers, but there's little point continuing. It seems obvious to me that the potential threat to Palestinians in Jerusalem is much greater, but I believe you believe that Jewish people are as terrified as those in Jerusalem.. They have every right to feel that way if they do. And?

Not sure I have seen any posts providing support for Hamas- they should be reported.

You may think supporting Palestinians is indirect support for Hamas, but surely that’s like saying wanting hostages to be released is support for Netanyahu’s right wing government. They are 2 different things.

Showing devastation IDF has inflicted in Gaza does play into Hamas’s hands- but that shouldn’t stop the posting of the photos. It means that the IDF and Netanyahu’s government should not have flattened Gaza.

I never said that supporting Palestinians is supporting Hamas please stop claiming otherwise.

There have mean multiple links on these boards to twitter accounts that are unashamedly pro-Hamas. The posts linked to might not themselves be pro-Hamas, but when you scroll a little you get posts praising thr October 7th attacks. So if people are going to complain about the DM not being a good source, I'd argue that pro-terrorist twitter is an even worse one.

Right, so you can only compare two things if they're exactly identical? What would then be the point in comparing? Seems like a highly flawed argument to be honest. But you keep at it if you so wish.

And for people who said no one is denying that Jews are scared because of the weekly protests, maybe look at the post I'm responding to. "I believe that you believe" ie it's not actually real.
