When posters cannot counter argue in a factual way, they resort to throwing very serious accusations at others.

@Auvergne63 So glad you agree that telling somebody that they have made anti-Semitic comments is a serious accusation.

It is.

And MN agreed.

I was very worried about the comment - imagine if I had have said - and this is how Muslims celebrated X. The poster has conflated a national day with ALL Jews. It is anti-Semitic to say this as it suggests ALL Jews and not the Israelis here.

You will feel even more powerful when you master the art of posting your opinions, backed up by facts you have painstakingly researched from reputable sources. Try the Reuters news agency, highly reputable and trustworthy, unlike the Daily Fail.

Yeah well I will consume my news how I like thanks. Nothing to do with you.

You don't get to decide which news sources are reputable and trustworthy - fortunately!

I'm just astounded by the blatant hypocrisy. We've been told for months that we're exaggerating when we say we as Jews don't feel safe in London (or other towns or cities) during the marches and it's been dismissed outright again and again and again. We've been told the marches are actually very peaceful and there's nothing to be scared of.

But today there is acknowledgement that actually, large marches are absolutely terrifying for those not participating. They're incredibly intimidating.

The fact that people only accept that when it's not Jews saying it is fucking shameful.

And no, I don't disagree that the march today was probably incredibly terrifying for those nearby. Because I'm not a massive hypocrite.

Are you honestly comparing armed settlers to the marches in London? Way to minimise the settlers behaviour and the impact that they have had on Palestinians for decades.

Try and educate yourself on how settlers behave and how they are protected by the Israeli government before making ridiculous, minimising statements.

No- but the people reading your comments will have a view on the source of your “evidence.” If you do in fact want to influence people - you should consider what sources they might think are reputable.

Or you can continue to post without actually wanting to influence or change people’s minds.

Yes I am comparing the two. They are a fair comparison in many, many ways.

I wasn't going to compare the two on here because I didn't want to come across as though I was trying to deflect or minimise but some of the posts on here are absolutely outrageous in their blatant hypocrisy which needs to be called out.

BELIEVE JEWS WHEN THEY SAY THEY'RE SCARED. If you can readily believe that Arabs in Jerusalem today were scared without even waiting to hear from them then believe us when we actually do speak to you as well. It's really not a big ask.

And I don't need to educate myself on settlers 🙄 Try reading the thread instead.

Humdingerydoo · 05/06/2024 18:18

Enough already with the constant redefining of words! I'm fucking sick of it. Antisemitism is specifically against Jews not Semitic people. It's an utterly pathetic thing to do, trying to change the definition of words. People have already tried it with other words like Zionism, and yesterday someone was trying to change the meaning of the word terrorist. Just stop it. It's a fucking bizarre thing to do, to claim that anti-Semitism affects non-Jews too. Stop trying to take our words away from us. It's not even remotely ok.

I think it's for the best that I didn't see your deleted post as I suspect it would have driven me up the fucking wall - I assume you twisted my words from earlier to make it seem a lot worse than it already is? I was respectful enough not to make comparisons between todays march and other similar events as to not minimise the harm and awful things being done today so please be respectful enough to at least not twist my words and to in general just leave our words alone.

Just stop.

You are literally the one who said in the first couple of posts that this is how Jews celebrated access to their holiest site with the parade. How on earth is that anti semitic??

I thought "the final solution" was a purposeful mistranslation of something that was said last week? Or has someone else actually said that now? Genuine question, not intended as goady or sarcastic.

The purpose of the march isn't an anti-Palestinian one - it's to celebrate the anniversary of the day Jews finally regained access to their holiest site. That was obviously a very big deal for a lot of people. However, on a Venn diagram there would probably be a large overlap of people who wish to celebrate this day by marching and people who hate Palestinians and want to provoke. I'm not going to deny that, and I'm definitely not going to defend them. I'm just trying to provide a bit of background and explain it's actual purpose.

I think they should have banned the march a long time ago and should just stick to celebrating by the Western Wall as that's the bit they're most excited about.

How does me quoting you make my post anti semitic and worthy of deletion??

The flag parade is how they celebrate. The violence isn't, that's just thugs being thugs. You conveniently skipped the bit I said about the venn diagram and the actual purpose is a celebration of finally having access to our holiest site but that a lot of the people celebrating are the Israeli equivalent of EDL so carnage occurs. Just like it frequently does on St George's Day. I thought it would be quite obvious that not all Jews or Israelis participate in the parade though 🙄

And when the fuck did I say you said something anti Semitic? Stop alternating between appropriating and redefining words and putting other words in my mouth.

You clearly do need to educate yourself if you can compare armed people who throw Palestinians out of their homes, burn their farms to the ground, kill them, all with the protection of the IDF to marchers in London. It is minimising, it is really poor taste and it shows what you really think of settlers despite all of your 'I'm not defending them but.....' posts on this thread.

A bit arrogant to think you know my opinion on settlers better than I do, no? A bit fucking rude? Your response to a post where I'm begging people to believe Jews when they say something is you telling a Jew they're lying?

I hope you can see the absurdity of that.

Great to see this interfaith march for peace even if only a small attendance.
Their take

In the eyes of the organizers of the interfaith march, the Flag March — which annually sees thousands of religious nationalist Israelis parade through Jerusalem, including through the Muslim Quarter of the Old City — has become a “symbol of violence and occupation” over the years, often marred by hate speech and violence towards Palestinians.
“We decided to create a joint march that sends the opposite message, one of peace, justice and equality,” said Rabbis for Human Rights director Avi Dabush, an evacuee from Kibbutz Nirim who survived Hamas’s October 7 terror onslaught.

I never said you were lying about being scared. I said you are minimising what is happening to Palestinians by making crass comparisons to marches in London.

I have never once on this board doubted that Jews are scared. My objection to your posts is pretty clear to read. You should be able to make your point without minimising the horrific, violent suffering of others.

If you don't feel that settlers are the same as London protesters then you probably shouldn't compare the two then be outraged when people take you at your word that you feel the two are the same.

You said I'm lying about my true opinions on settlers. If you're going to make an outrageous accusation then at least be brave enough to either stand by it or apologise for it, or at least retract it.

My point with regards to the marches was people should believe Jews. You have taken that to mean I secretly like the settlers. That's an incredibly messed up message to have taken from my words.

This thread isn't about the protests in the UK and how Jewish people feel scared. Of course, if that is how you feel that's your right. But there is already another thread about that where you can discuss this issue as you well know.
This one is about the settlers parade in Jerusalem and how it's affecting those (Palestinians) who live there.
