The IDF have reportedly carried out airstrikes on displaced people, in an area Israel designated a 'humanitarian area'. They told people to go there, displaced people to that area, and have now reportedly bombed it.

Airstrikes on Rafah reportedly kill 30 after Hamas launches rockets at Tel Aviv

Medics in the southern Gaza city say the strikes hit an area of tents being used by displaced people.

Netanyahu says deadly Rafah airstrike a 'tragic mishap'

Benjamin Netanyahu has described the deadly Israeli airstrike on a camp for displaced Palestinians in the southern Gaza city of Rafah as a “tragic mishap”.

“We are investigating the case, that is our policy,” Netanyahu said in a speech at the Knesset on Monday, Haaretz reported.

The Israeli leader added that “for us, every uninvolved [being hurt] is a tragedy,” it added. He claimed the incident occurred “despite our best efforts not to hurt them”.

Netanyahu needs a tragic mishap of his own.

"Nothing to see here. Bit of an oopsie."

Astaghfirullah.

The problem with this is that they were told repeatedly that it wasn't safe for them to attack Rafah. Repeatedly told that it was too dangerous for all the innocent people they had chosen to herd there. Told by the ICJ to stop. It isn't a mishap if everybody tells you something will happen, you ignore them and then that something happens. What happened was entirely predictable, Israel just clearly didn't care because they know they can say they have 'investigated' it and what do you know, they are in the clear and the whole world will nod sagely.

As far as I know he wasn't televised so not possible to see if he was smirking during his mea culpa - maybe learnt something from the WFC deaths 'apology'

And the invisible US red lines

US urges Israel to 'take every precaution' to protect civilians after 'devastating' Rafah strike

The US urges Israel to take every precaution to protect civilians in Gaza after “devastating images” from the Israeli airstrike on a camp for displaced Palestinians, the White House has said.

Reuters cited a US national security council spokesperson as saying:
''Israel has a right to go after Hamas, and we understand this strike killed two senior Hamas terrorists who are responsible for attacks against Israeli civilians. But as we’ve been clear, Israel must take every precaution possible to protect civilians''

The spokesperson added that the US is “actively engaging” the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and partners on the ground “to assess what happened” in Rafah

Just when you think this can't get sicker. I'm honestly gobsmacked, outraged. I'm sure someone will be along in a minute to say if Hamas would only release the hostages it would all stop. We are a disgrace as a nation and we've lost all credibility on the world stage if we continue to support this bloodthirsty killing of innocents.

julili · 27/05/2024 19:16

Agreed, Zionism is just as dangerous as any other extremism religion.

AhNowTed · 27/05/2024 19:29

So sick of this “human shield” claptrap.

If Hamas’s strategy was to use human shields, can anyone point to a single case where that was a successful deterrent. In 9 months.

No. Israel just bomb them all anyway.

Let’s call it for what it is. Hamas may be hiding amongst civilians, and that suits Israel very well indeed.

They can bomb starving children in tents with a clear conscience.

And then blame the Palestinians.

What is your definition of zionism?

quantumbutterfly · 27/05/2024 19:30

What is your definition of zionism?

The excuse that’s being used to try to justify what the IDF are currently doing.

Grandmasswagbag · 27/05/2024 19:41

The human shield argument has never held any weight. It's simply bollocks designed to make it seem acceptable to carpet bomb civilians on the chance there's some terrorists among them. The UK is also densely populated and there are terrorists among us. If you're happy with the human shield argument you'd have to be happy with large numbers of UK civilians being murdered in pursuit of the Manchester bomber. Think not.

anotherlevel · 27/05/2024 20:22

@quantumbutterfly what are your thoughts on what happened?

quantumbutterfly · 27/05/2024 20:32

I think that some people want it to stop and have a dream of Gazans and Israelis coexisting peacefully and some people see it as further reason to perpetuate hate.

anotherlevel · 27/05/2024 20:40

@quantumbutterfly do you think last nights attack was justified?

quantumbutterfly · 27/05/2024 20:48

Justified?
I don't justify my thoughts to you. What I think, I will share with people who might make a difference, you are intractable and whatever compassion I feel is wasted on you.

mactire · 27/05/2024 20:55

And the rogue state continues its reign of terror against Palestinian innocents. Netanyahu’s not sorry in the slightest, he’s only sorry he didn’t manage to burn more Palestinian children.

As I have learned here, don’t say that, because the very extreme version you may be thinking of as being Zionism, is not what perfectly reasonable Jewish people mean by it as the start of establishing a safe homeland, which in the end was actually given by the English after WW11, though
the idea began earlier, and a
some Jewish people had never left in two thousand years.

And after the holocaust and WW11, Americans and British were not welcoming to Jews as you might think, and the Arab countries where Jews had lived for two thousand years expelled them and kept all their property after the British gave the section of land to them.

There may be extreme Zionists but they are not all Israeli people. In Israel there are lots of people who want security from Hamas, but who don’t want the trajectory this war has taken. Think what it would be like if everyone thought that the U.K. was the National Front or those US stormers of the Whitehouse types.

Hamas massacred some of the most peace promoting Israelis. They wrecked their own cause.

@Hawa13 I understand your anger, but this comment really isn't ok.

Agree, more and more becoming a rogue state as these actions have shocked the world. A “mishap” is how Netanyahu describes this, but the worlds governments are now turning their back on Israel, in disgust, rightfully imo.

@Hawa13 the leadership of any country mostly lies with…. Its leaders. Although I don’t entirely disagree with your post, I think BN and his band of utter lunatics have lead things to where they are now.

Vote for the Lib Dems , the only party opposed to the genocide.

ScrollingLeaves · 27/05/2024 21:10

Two high-profile right-wing pundits posted photos on Xcomparing the fatal blaze in Rafah to bonfires lit to celebrate the Jewish festival of Lag B'Omer, which was celebrated Sunday evening. One of them captioned their post: "Happy Holidays." After widespread outrage, both later deleted their posts.
(Haaretz today)

It is very good to see that those deplorable posts brought widespread Israeli outrage.

Right-wing Israeli journalists celebrate Rafah attack, likening it to Lag Ba'Omer bonfire

Those Hamas cunts deliberately launched an attack whilst hiding behind innocent children in the full knowledge that the IDF would retaliate in this way. If a terrorist shoots at a soldier and the soldier returns fire and the terrorist holds up a child to shield himself from the bullets, who is the murderer?

The way Israelis justify genocide is so supremely disgusting. This was a refugee camp. Which the Israelis forced the Gazans into. You will be just as complicit one day for genocide with these views. Our kids will be learning about you in history lessons on how you justified the slaughter of innocents to yourselves. Absolutely vile with your faux outrage. The world has realised what is going on and these excuses are no longer accepted.
