Conflict in the Middle East

If all Palestinians leave Gaza, are Israel then allowed to claim the land?

Sorry, for the simplicity of what I'm saying. I'm new to this and trying to learn. Smile

From what I've seen, many Palestinians in Gaza are being moved to camps elsewhere. Sadly, many have been killed too.

The photos of the area suggest that much of Gaza is ruined and will need to be re-built.

If hypothetically all Palestinians were moved elsewhere, would Israel then be able to "claim" Gaza? Would the UN etc be allowed to stop them? Would the West Bank be able to claim it?

Any insight appreciated?

Read this, which explains why Hamas do not want aid to reach their people. They want to control it.

@Livelovebehappy
You probably are aware but lurkers would not be aware that the original mission of the “Foundation for the Defence of Democracies” was “FDD's stated mission was to "provide education to enhance Israel's image in North America and the public's understanding of issues affecting Israeli-Arab relations".

It is a pro-Israeli lobby group. One of its major donars was Sheldon Adelaide, one of Trumps largest donors

The truth of the matter is that all these guys have in their defence of Israel and what is happening in Gaza right now is the events of October 7th. It's as if nothing happened before October 7 and nothing has happened since. You're expected to let bygones be bygones, it all happened in the past. The only relevant thing is that Hamas did a terror attack on October 7th. Forget everything else shut up and sit down.

BibiSuzanne · 26/05/2024 18:45

@Cecilly absolutely

@LauraNorda are the lives of an Israeli child and a Palestinian child of equal worth in your eyes?

See, thats the simplistic question isn't it?

It doesn't matter what you or I think about who is worth what.

Hamas stood on a platform of complete destruction of Israel and its people (you know, real genocide) and the people of gaza voted them in. Would you take a bet that gazan children in hamas controlled schools are being taught peace and tolerance? I wouldn't. A whole new generation will now believe that Israelis / Jews are filth that need to be eradicated.

More enlightened arab states like Egypt, Jordan, The UAE and Bahrain have recognised Israel and its right to exist. Saudi Arabia was also very close to doing so until October 7th.

Hamas and its supporters are stuck in the 11th century. If they were all swept away, there is a real danger that peace may break out in that troubled region and who wouldn't want that?

Scirocco · 26/05/2024 18:51

So, your answer is No, then.

@LauraNorda says that Hamas is standing on a genocidal platform but at the same time wants to sweep everyone in Gaza away. I guess the term genocide only applies to brown people.

I would rather stand alone in opposing these terrorists rather than jump on the trendy bandwagon like you.

You probably turn a blind eye to the cowering mods on here who pull any post that even slightly critisises hamas or gazans compliance with them.

If Israel really wanted this postage stamp piece of land, why pull out in 2005?

They never pulled out. Israel are actively starving a whole population. It’s called collective punishment. Then they stop the power and carpet bomb Gaza. Illegal settlers have said themselves they are going to build houses there. The Israeli government have plans to build more illegal settlements.

Why do you resort to insult someone instead of answering a simple question that this poster and I have repeatedly asked you?
This Rousseau's quote "Insults are the arguments employed by those who are in the wrong." seems to apply here.

I suspect it may be because the answer to the question is not one the poster wants to have to acknowledge to themselves.

Most of us want to see ourselves as good people, fair people. Having to see one's own prejudices can be uncomfortable. It's easier to lash out than to acknowledge them.

IbisDancer · 26/05/2024 21:08

Legally, Israel would not be allowed to take Gaza after depopulating it.

The problem is that Israel has repeatedly openly the defied many of the international laws and treaties it signed up to, as well as the orders of the UN and ICJ which it also is a full member of and promised to be subject to.

The #1 most powerful enforcers of UN resolutions and IL is the US. It’s a cursed sword though because the US will only enforce where and when it is in its own interests to do so and will actively turn on the UN if it isn’t in its interest to enforce international law.

The US also can’t go toe to toe with Russia or China, the three of them won’t enforce anything on each other because it would lead to WWIII.

The US will decide whether Israel will be allowed to complete their ethnic cleansing. Israel has been under the U.S.’ protective wing since its founding and I am not sure this is enough to change anything.

I hope it is.

I agree.

So the ‘safe’ camp in Rafah has been bombed 60 times. 60.
Full of families, children, little babies.
How can anyone say it isn’t pure evil to do such a thing?

Cecilly · 27/05/2024 07:24

The people who still defend Israel after all that has happened are truly sick. The Palestinians have endured 75 years of this terrorism. But no doubt someone will likely come on here to say "But Hamas... but Oct 7..."
