I agree with your analysis. Social media has been a major factor in the respose to this war. We didn't have as much social media in 2001 so didn't see the crowds in Gaza cheering as the planes crashed into the twin towers....but hey let them in.

Hamas affirms that its conflict is with the Zionist project not with the Jews because of their religion. Hamas does not wage a struggle against the Jews because they are Jewish but wages a struggle against the Zionists who occupy Palestine. Yet, it is the Zionists who constantly identify Judaism and the Jews with their own colonial project and illegal entity

I'm not a supporter of Hamas. But this repeated assertion that Gazans somehow are complicit in what's happening to them, and are inherently a risk because of their heritage, makes me angry.

They're not wrong.
The number of immigrants is not the issue, it's the locations they are placed in. The number wouldn't be an issue if they were spread fairly around the country.
The majority of immigrants in the last decade or so have been funnelled into urban areas that are already overcrowded and underfunded; areas with not enough housing, GPs, school places, etc.
They're never put in Richmond-upon-Thames or Kensington, they're stuck in Hounslow or Coventry.
People in those areas are also massively displaced.
Ita easy to talk about human decency when you're not the one in a hostel because you can't get a council home, or an GP appointment, or you walk around the area you grew up in and it feels as though you're the incomer, as what has happened there is not integration but displacement. People can be sympathetic, but it's not an infinite well; they are going to be more concerned with their own life and struggles.

In the footage of Hamas fighters on October 7th they used the words ‘Jew’ and ‘Jews’ repeatedly for the people they were searching for to murder ( often accompanied by ‘dog’). Not Israeli. Not sure why anyone would think Hamas genuinely all of a sudden changed their minds about hating Jews 😂 It's still the same people, doing the same thing. This thread has confirmed that the majority of posters supporting Israel have nothing but hate towards Palestinians, that all you can see them as are terrorist supporting psychopaths. You do not see them as innocent civilians but a threat to you all even the children I guess. They are people that do not deserve to feel safe, do not deserve to be safe and do not deserve asylum at a time of crisis. I know. It’s hard to fathom the psychology of people, who even after October 7th, want to believe Hamas are not all that bad really, and actually have some redeeming qualities.
Yet such people walk among us.
It’s disturbing really. People can convince themselves of anything, against all evidence, if they motivated enough.

It's really quite something to witness the same people who have spent months talking over, belittling and giving their opinions about Jews (not just Israelis, but Jews), now complaining about racism.

I'm not interested in taking sides. The Israeli government and the IDF have also said and done awful, dehumanising things about the Palestinians.

Since Netanyahu announced his entirely impossible goal of "eliminating Hamas" I've been deeply worried about the number of Gazans who will die unnecessarily as a result. Pretty much everything I was worried about has and is happening.

The majority of Gazans are displaced. Hundreds of thousands are starving and we know children and babies are most likely to die in famine. This is entirely man made and there is no end in sight. It's shocking in the 21st Century.

I don't think any amount of barbarity from Hamas justifies what's happening in Gaza.

I think it isn't beyond belief to think things would have changed in 50 years.
I do know from my father in law that racism was rife if you were black. The sign "No blacks, no Irish and no dogs" isn't a myth.
