Hamas refusing ceasefire??????

So President Biden is under the impression that a ceasefire could be in place by the weekend ....

Queue celebration (presumably) by all those that march on the streets calling for a ceasefire.

Then we find our Hamas have problems with it!!!!! The same Hamas that are supposed to be acting in their people's intsrests

We now know who really does not want to engage in ceasefire talks and release hostages. We now know who the ire of all those marchers in London should be directed against.

I feel Hamas want this war to continue as is as they are thriving on the sympathy the war is bringing to Palestinians. The more global 'support' is demonstrated the more they feel they have a chance of being part of a post war peace

The airstrikes on Gaza started on October 7th, while the Hamas attack was still ongoing. By 23:59 GMT on October 7th:

  • ”At least 232 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli air attacks on the Gaza Strip according to medical sources, launched after a Hamas offensive against Israel. At least 250 Israelis have been killed.
  • According to Hamas’s military wing, it has captured “several times greater” than dozens of Israelis.
  • Hamas, which runs Gaza, said its offensive is a response to the desecration of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and increased settler violence. You can read more here on how Hamas’s offensive unfolded.
  • Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has told residents of the besieged enclave to “leave now”, saying Israel’s forces “will turn all Hamas hideouts into rubble”.

ive seen commments that a ceasefire might be inminent

Hamas was guaranteed by the U.S. for a full Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and that Israeli forces will not continue fighting once the hostages are released ■ An Israeli official told Haaretz that 'Israel will, under no circumstances, agree to end the war as part of a deal' and is determined to enter Rafah

This article makes the extremely important observation that It's unclear whether Hamas has agreed to the most recent ceasefire proposal, as outlined last week, or a revised version of it because the Israeli govt still does not agree with a permanent ceasefire or complete withdrawal of troops as outlined in the original proposal, so could just be a Hamas ploy setting up Israel to fail at this point, rather than a genuine acceptance. Hopefully, it's genuine and a deal is reached swiftly.

Hamas accepts Gaza ceasefire proposal from Egypt and Qatar | CNN

The group says Ismail Haniyeh, the head of its political bureau, has told Qatari and Egyptian mediators that it has agreed to their proposal for a ceasefire agreement.
