Conflict in the Middle East

Hamas refusing ceasefire??????

mids2019 · 27/02/2024 13:31

So President Biden is under the impression that a ceasefire could be in place by the weekend ....

Queue celebration (presumably) by all those that march on the streets calling for a ceasefire.

Then we find our Hamas have problems with it!!!!! The same Hamas that are supposed to be acting in their people's intsrests

We now know who really does not want to engage in ceasefire talks and release hostages. We now know who the ire of all those marchers in London should be directed against.

I feel Hamas want this war to continue as is as they are thriving on the sympathy the war is bringing to Palestinians. The more global 'support' is demonstrated the more they feel they have a chance of being part of a post war peace

Middle East crisis live: Biden comments on ceasefire are ‘premature’, says Hamas https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2024/feb/27/middle-east-crisis-live-truce-gaza-israel-hostages-palestinian-prisoners

It seems the US are hopeful but for some reasons Hamas don't want it 🤷

Biden's doctors are now saying he doesn't know where he is. He's clearly senile.

No, Hamas is not causing the lack of humanitarian aid in Gaza.

There is no exception to the law that requires Israel to ensure humanitarian aid gets to the civilians in Gaza.

It is a fact that not letting in humanitarian aid isn’t affecting Hamas at all. It is not striking back at or limiting Hamas’ capabilities.

That is why it is a law that all armies must follow when operating in a war zone and why denying aid is illegal collective punishment.

@lostonmars
I am appalled at Hamas murdering and kidnapping innocent civilians and children.
Are you appalled at Israel murdering and starving innocent civilians and children?

KestrelMoon · 28/02/2024 16:21

Who are the live civilian female and child hostages yet to be released? I am not counting the ones reported to have been killed.

Only five of the female hostages are in the IDF.

You should still count the ones Hamas have reported to have been killed as they also previously claimed Hanna Katzir was dead before releasing her like a day later.

Funnily enough your link only had allegations.

I am. Hamas have said they won’t settle for less than a ceasefire.
Israel won’t settle for anything that leaves Hamas alive and in power, so a ceasefire is not acceptable to Israel.

A forty day humanitarian pause with a promise it could lead to a ceasefire- Hamas and Israel both know it won’t lead to a ceasefire. It will only prolong the inevitable.

Until Hamas release the hostages I don't think there can be peace. Did you see how dreadfully worried the hostage relatives looked on TV?

Negotiations so far
Below is a rough summary of what has been suggested and what the sticking points are.

Israel wants all the hostages released and Hamas to stop fighting in return for a ceasefire which will be temporary only as they want to proceed with the Rafah ground invasion.

Hamas wants Palestinian prisoners released in exchange for hostages, aid to flow freely, civilians to be allowed to return to Northern Gaza. They don’t want to release IDF hostages at the moment, especially male ones, and won’t commit to stop fighting if Israel doesn’t.

Israel doesn’t want anyone under the age of 50 to return to northern Gaza. And are adamant that the Rafah invasion will proceed.

I’m going to re-post this.
As people still think that releasing the hostages will lead to peace.
Israel says no.

You don’t think that Israel bombing most of Gaza and killing 10000 innocent children is murder?
Ok then. We’ll have to disagree. I don’t think I’m the person blinded by hate.

I am not counting hostages that Hamas or Israel have reported as killed, as by being dead they can’t be expected to be a priority for release over living hostages. Can you please name the live civilian female and child hostages still held by Hamas? I can’t seem to find a list?

No matter what Hamas did or is doing, murdering thousands of innocent children and maiming thousands more is seriously evil.

Maybe if you actually tried looking you'd be able to find it? Five of them are soldiers, the others aren't.

The Bibas family can not be assumed to be dead just because terrorists claimed it. As I mentioned previously, they said the same about Hanna Katzir. Stop pretending they're not liars who enjoy psychological torture

Dropping bombs is deliberate. You don’t “accidentally” load up bombs on your fighter jet, and then fly over and push the big red button to drop bombs on homes, religious centres, hospitals, water/sewage plants, tents of people, and journalists.

Snowypeak · 28/02/2024 17:08

It’s not difficult to work out that bombing densely populated areas will result in a LOT of child deaths.

It’s deliberate all right.

I did try looking. Since you are so much better informed, surely you can name them? Or perhaps they don’t exist so you can’t find them either?

There were two minutes between my post and your reply. You quite clearly didn't try very hard.

I have. This was the exchange:

Humdingerydoo · Today 15:56
No, they didn't. There are still civilian female hostages in captivity. There are also civilian male hostages in captivity, as well as two children.

KestrelMoon · Today 16:21
Who are the live civilian female and child hostages yet to be released? I am not counting the ones reported to have been killed.

lostonmars · Today 16:51
Shiri Bibas, Ariel Bibas, Kfir Bibas, just off the top of my head. Hamas is known to lie about hostages dying. And why should it only be civilians?

KestrelMoon · Today 16:53
The Bibas family are reported to have sadly passed away in an Israeli air strike. Try again.

Why should it only be civilians? Because that is what Humdingerydoo specifically posted- they claimed that there are still female civilian and child hostages with Hamas.

HTH

two minutes! 🤣

We did the maths.
Israel is blocking 93% of aid needed.

If Hamas is taking 100% of what they need, even assuming zero Hamas fighters have died, then the maximum possible aid Hamas could have stolen is 1.3% of the aid.

Stealing 1.3% of the aid needed isn’t enough to cause famine.
Blocking 93% of aid is enough to cause famine.
