I’ve read that in the last few days Starmer is concerned about the Muslim people not voting labour cuz of his position

https://amp.theguardian.com/politics/2024/jan/30/labour-acts-on-fears-muslims-will-not-vote-for-party-over-gaza-stance

do you think this will have an impact on this years general elections ? I guess whatever they do they’ll lose votes

Exclusive: Party launches outreach effort amid concerns it is losing support of normally loyal voters

This is the first thing I found from Google search.
German police raid homes of pro-Palestinian activists
https://www.dw.com/en/german-police-raid-homes-of-pro-palestinian-activists/a-70363024

It mentions that the police found some anti-Semitic slogans, and also that one of the men had attacked a politician.

Here is another mention of that arrest.
www.yahoo.com/news/police-berlin-raid-flats-pro-133315342.html

Fair for arresting for those reasons but for committing pro Palestinian crimes?? There shouldn’t be any crime for being pro Palestinian

@EasterIssland sure. Here is one thread that was in the responses to that post. It links to various articles from military experts on the issues in fighting this war.

Thanks for the link...the interview with Sir John Mccol is very balanced I think given he has been on the ground in Gaza recently.

Too little too late, but at least it's something. At least some MPs have a conscience.

Not the UK but you know it's bad when even Germany slows their weapons sales.

Despite the German government contending there was no arms embargo against Israel, arms sales approvals fell off a cliff this year.
From January to Aug. 21, only €14.5 million in arms exports were approved by Germany; only 2 percent of those were “war weapons,” with 98 percent being “other military equipment” such as helmets, protective vests and communications equipment.Berlin has not approved any exports of war weapons to Israel since March.

It would be relatively simple for the UK government to suspend ALL remaining arms export licenses to Israel.

It simply will not happen. If you saw Keir Starmer answering questions about Israel in Parliament the other day you would see.

He was completely committed to the idea that Israel must be able to defend itself. Not arming them would be leaving them defenceless.

He just kept saying we must get a ceasefire.

I agree it's unlikely to happen but I totally disagree that it would leave Israel defenceless.

UK exports of arms to Israel is relatively small and it would be simple to determine whether a component was destined for e.g iron dome or not.

Edited

I meant that that was how Keir Starmer sees it, and it looked like a line he does not want to cross. If you could have seen his face - it was stoney determined.

Live in the House of Commons -watching it now. So many MPs are extremely upset, standing up one after another to say this must stop. Someone mentioned the person burnt alive who was on an IV drip - they have been watching.

A few in favour of Israel’s operations have been bringing up the idea that it is up to Hamas to take the first steps.

Annaliese Dodds is evidently sympathetic to all the MPs, but is fielding it all: The U.K. has been calling for a ceasefire in Gaza cand Lebanon, the U.K. does recognise the IJC, tye givernment is determined the humanitarian law should not be broken.

Someone has just stood up to say the U.K. government quite evidently is giving partisan support to Israel, citing the PM.

Someone just mentioned support for Lebanon had fallen last year and surely that was a mistake.

Someone has just said that egregious breaches of international law by our ally cannot continue to go unstopped. What message will be sent to Israel to say they must stop this behaviour?

New voice: brining up Hezbollah tunnels near UNIFL, saying we should deal with terrorism instead of berrating Israel.

Chi Onwurah was bringing up Howard Jacobsen having recently written that current reporting on children being killed in Gaza is ‘blood libel’. She describes actual blood libel and that it is anti-Semitic, and agrees it was terrible, but then she goes on to say it must be clear that current reporting is not blood libel, and the public must have access to sources of news about this.

Lord Cameron has done the preparatory work to sanction two members of the Israeli government / what’s happened to it why hadn’t it been implemented.

I cannot keep up. So many MPs are standing up to speak.

What is it with Kier Starmer do you think? Why is he so determined to still paint this as "Israel defending itself"? I can't get my head around it!

What?!

Uncoupling the supply chains would be inconvenient for some people sitting in comfortable chairs. More inconvenient than innocent people dying in operations which violate international law.
